Useful vlog! I have always kept away from Glenlivet but maybe that's been an error. This helps me select which one to go for

Good review, Mark. I agree, Glenlivet 12 year is definitely one of the best value single malts available. Glenmorangie 10 year is a good alternative at the same price point IMO. If someone is looking for an alternative 15 year Scotch, I would suggest trying the Johnnie Walker Green Label, which is a favorite of mine. Cheers.

Thanks very much for commenting, Frank! I am with you on all of your mentioned alternatives. I'd have to try the Glenmorangie side by side to be sure, but I think I prefer it! JW 15 also a winner in my books as well. For some reason Glenmorangie 10 is a bit more expensive in Canada than Glenlivet. Probably a volume of sale difference, I'd guess.
      Thanks kindly and cheers,
      Mark

Hi Frank, good call. But if you do see any old versions of Glenlivet 12 and it’s not too expensive give it a try!!

The 12 is $29.99 here so it’s clearly the best value. But I love the 15 so much!

Hi C S! I know it’s such a nice price, and I am with you, the 15 is awesome with its French oakiness. The 18 almost seems lost between 15 and 21, right?
      Cheers my friend🥃🥃🥃🥃

I have poured a dram of 12 where the bottle was first opened last July... I believe you're interpreting peat where I'm getting faint notes of pepper and cinnamon. Unfortunately, I don't have any 15 or 18 on which to compare notes with you...

Thanks for commenting FQ! That's not impossible! Though it's interesting I noticed it most in the 18. I tried a Glengoyne for the first time not long ago which is entirely unpeated to Glenlivet/Glenfiddich/Glenmorangie's 2 ppm-ish light peating. It was nice - I have a little sample so I'll do that one soon.

Where in manitoba are you from? Up here in flin flon and the 12 is only 60 before tax. Less than 70 after.

Hi Jay, thanks for the comment. Nice to hear from someone in Flin Flon! I’m now living in Winnipeg. Right, 60 for the 12. In Seoul where I had been living at time of filming, $75-80 dollars US is the price I would have paid. Right, not a bad price in Manitoba al considered.

Tried both the 18 and 15 today at a whisky festival. Both very similar but 18 is much more expensive here in uk. I don't think it's worth the extra money. I liked them both pleasant but didn't knock my socks off.

Hi Gary! Good thoughts - mirrors my results if memory serves. 15 is way better bang for your buck, but would sure be helped at 46 percent etc. I need a whisky festival! Hope you had a good educational tasty time.

WhiskyWhistle it was my first whisky festival. Had about 10 drams in 2 hours lol. I think the 15 is around half the price of the 18 here. I'm pleased I didn't buy a bottle. My favourites from the whiskies I tried were benromach organic, Aberlour abunadh and a Murray mcdavid 20 year old mystery speyside malt. The Aberlour 16 was pretty nice to. I also thought the Paul John edited was decent and so was the Penderyn myth. Was disappointed with highland park 12 and macallan 12 fine oak.

I’ve got the Myth back at home I think. Or maybe Legend. Love the Benromach line. I’ll see about getting the aberlour 16 this summer since you liked it. Yes the Mac 12 Fine Oak is not up to par but is ok I suppose. I think I gave it a 70 something. Lucky you trying a Paul John!! Cheers buddy. Don’t forget to eat at those things!

WhiskyWhistle I've had my dinner now. It's the most I've ever drank had to drag myself out. The abunadh was delicious but at 60% abv it was tough to drink without water. The 16 was much softer more my style. My pallete is wrecked can't have any tonight.

    Peat???

    • @WhiskyWhistle
      @WhiskyWhistle  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes as with most Scotch and even some that don’t use peat, there is some smoky or peaty quality not found in Canadian or American whiskies. It is said Glenlivet is around 2ppm phenolic.
