Thank you for this. I'm in the middle of my first DIY project, a deck that has a couple of "custom angles" to go around a tree, and I've been worrying about getting those angles correct for a few days now. This tip should enable me to cut with much greater confidence!!!!
It is a very good book for beginners as well as for those that are already into th-cam.com/users/postUgkxTNB_zFBSnTo_O1PqfVUwgi7ityw0JlKt A very good basic ebook to keep as a reference too. I like it and the way the subject matter is presented. It has humor and that helps with the reading.
I went out yesterday brought an expensive angle finder that wasn’t finding me the angles watched this video and bingo angles found cuts cut and it joins lovely thank u so much very simple yet very affective
There’s one ive come across I cannot find the angle for have u got an email I could send a pic of it to as I’ve over 10 joints to do in this angle I can’t get
Thank you so much! I tried to work this out for about an hour on my own and could not figure out how to get the angles correct. It still took me a few watches to make sure I was marking the board in the correct place. After that, and few practice cuts I had it!
For speed, when I need an angle not in the notches, I raise the blade guard, lower the blade and sight down it to the line, eliminating guesswork or test cuts.
all well and good but what if you don't have a mitre saw to cut the second piece the same? would you do the same thing as you did the first time soe the second bit?
I am going to try this with my 4 by 4's I have for the parameter of my daughters playground edge I am making. I am super nervous about this screwing it up. I guess this is the only way to learn! Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Man this helps! I've been remodeling myself and asked my boyfriend (bass player...I asked the wrong person) to cut the baseboards- all not fitting whatsoever, so $400 later...I'm doing it myself 🤷♀️ Learned plumbing so I'll get this :)
You are a bleeping genious!!! How do I make the prop piece? I don't have a power saw but I have a 1/2 inch molding I need to cut on a butcher block counter top to hide a gap against wall. I didn't want to buy stuff just for that little cut. Thanks so much!
I like your videos and I want to buy the same jigsaw you use in this video but I'm struggling to find, what's the proper name of this machine black&decker
Can you show me how to take the first angle cut, so that it is flush with the board with the 110* written on it? I am learning fences, and cutting trim pieces on a slope is a pain in the ass, and my foreman hates me for not knowing how to do it. So that the 2x4 or trim piece is angled to be flush with the 110* board, just like how you started with with your first 2x4. they do it without using a marking board underneath somehow, and I am lost.
Thank you! The videos had all this math I had to do. I'm an English teacher - don't ask me how to do math! Hahaha! Your video was short and to the point. Thank you!
Now that is the easiest way I have seen so far. Iv been looking to find an easier way to figure out corner cuts and this is the best way. Thanks alot eh.
I'm looking to cut odd angle internal mitres on skirting board (I think you call it base board) on my mitre saw, but I have to lay the board flat on the saw base as its too tall to cut upright. Would the bevel angles be the same as the mitre angles you demonstrated here?
I am doing crown and I am having trouble with a bullnose. There is an odd angle near my fireplace and I just cannot figure this one out. I used my angle finder and know the angle is 120 degrees outside cut. However I cannot seem to figure out the cuts? Can you please help with some advice? Thank you.
I've always struggled to cut angle even 45 degree and to get them lined up. This is a very good tip. When i want to cut an angle. I have the blade set a 90 degree .push the wood up to the blade hold it there .then i will move the blade to 45 degree or 30 degree depending what your making and go for the cut . It lines up when you join the 2 peices together
gonna have to get a miter for my floor molding. tried cutting with a jig saw with it set to 45 and the blade didn't stay straight. Good tip though thanks.
Thank you. For those who have a corner fireplace or bookcase or closet that fills in a 90 corner wall, that angle is 90+45=135 degrees. 180-135 =45. 45/2=22.5 degrees. Set the saw to 22.5 and make you cuts for base board molding.
This technique works even if the two pieces are different widths, but you have to draw a reference line on the second piece as well. The angles on the two pieces will be different from each other but will still add up to the total corner angle.
This is another great tutorial on angles and how to get there. However, I do have some questions: I noticed on the first model you had 110 degrees angle, and from your previous videos you mention dividing that in half, which would be 55. On the miter that would be 35...if I'm following you correctly...right? However, you made the cut at 36, so does that 1 degree make a big difference? Enough to show a gap in the inside corner, especially if you're not caulking the gap. Thank you again for all you do!
I spent two hours today learning the same thing with math and without knowing the angle im given. And i was amazed how the math matched with my angle finder spot on. But i admit this way is easier.
Lmao. That's hilarious. I seen it as well when he was making a mark from his line to the corner of the 2x4, right before he cut it. I actually like to read the first 10-15 comments on a video(if they have that many) to determine if its worth watching, so I read your comment and was looking for his knee. I really thought it was his head when he was marking it lol
Genious. Subbed Ive done renos for 13 years I do everything but trim and electrial and plumbing but have been doing a lot of trim now and ur videos have helped me massively thanks a lot!😊👍
Hi i just love wood the smell of it to. We would love to make small Houses I buy them out of Pine and gift them to family and friends. Never have bought anything like this or work with a Saw before. Any help would be great. Many Thanks.
i feel stupid . im trying to cut a railroad tie just like this angle in the video so it will make a turn in the driveway. i have to use a chainsaw to cut it and im still unclear . i thought i could cut it at an angle then flip the other end so they fit together to make the turn . im a kid and im tryin to sort this out .
Another easy way......use a T-bevel; set it at the angle. Transfer it to a board or flat, square surface; mark along the blade and use a protractor or Speed Square; to measure the angle and simply divide it in two. 👍
Use the thinnest available marking tool- ink pen, mechanical pencil , or razor knife. For trim, cut a board exactly 10", place in corner and measure to that board; then add 10". (Saves u from bending tape into corners). Then you'll know whether to leave, split, or cut out the line.
Very good. Do one on the outside of those boards or a wall. I am trying to build a plant stand around a wall with 2 corners and angles off about 50 degrees or so (not sure eyeballing it). \__/ something like that for the wall.
kcmike7 don’t mark them on the baseboard or crown...use two pieces of scrap wood. Then your saw will be set to the correct angle to cut...then put your baseboard on and cut.

So amazing!!! I am using your technique today...3.5 years after you made the video. Thank you so very, very much!
I went out yesterday brought an expensive angle finder that wasn’t finding me the angles watched this video and bingo angles found cuts cut and it joins lovely thank u so much very simple yet very affective

Home depot has a digital protractor for under $20
@@jeremycaudill6916 I’m in the United Kingdom my friend but a link to what ur speaking about would be appreciated
Thank you so much! I tried to work this out for about an hour on my own and could not figure out how to get the angles correct. It still took me a few watches to make sure I was marking the board in the correct place. After that, and few practice cuts I had it!
This guy knows a lot! I watch him all the time for little tricks
I have spent the last 2 days arguing with od angles on a garden bed.
I just watched this and my brain clicked!! Thank you so much 😅
You’re welcome
if you don't have a mitre saw, can you cut the first piece as shown and then flip it to act as guide for cutting second piece?
Awesome! How can i make two 90 degree angle cuts without a mitre saw? So they join up? With just a utility knife?
Thank you. Is there an equivalent for molding?
Good video sr. How do you find angles for round molding
you're the man, saved me ripping my hair out
Great and easy to learn through your video, thanks million for you efforts.
I am going to try this with my 4 by 4's I have for the parameter of my daughters playground edge I am making. I am super nervous about this screwing it up. I guess this is the only way to learn! Thank you so much for this tutorial!
Hi, if I was doing this with Scotia beading how would I do the second piece? Would I flip it over and cut the same angle?
You just saved me scratching my head for the next two hour, thanks a million 👍
Man this helps! I've been remodeling myself and asked my boyfriend (bass player...I asked the wrong person) to cut the baseboards- all not fitting whatsoever, so $400 later...I'm doing it myself 🤷♀️
Learned plumbing so I'll get this :)
omfg thank you... ive been searching and hunting for videos... this one made the most sense and now im gonna have fun building this shelf 🥰 THANK YOU
dose the same method applies to beveled cuts on the miter saw?
So just to be 100% sure, if you're cutting a shaped piece eg curved top handrail, you turn piece 2 upside down, yes?
You are a bleeping genious!!! How do I make the prop piece? I don't have a power saw but I have a 1/2 inch molding I need to cut on a butcher block counter top to hide a gap against wall. I didn't want to buy stuff just for that little cut. Thanks so much!
Is there a way to do this with compound angles or to get parts fitted against the doorjamb shape?
I like your videos and I want to buy the same jigsaw you use in this video but I'm struggling to find, what's the proper name of this machine black&decker
Omg thanks for this video... I really struggle with inside corners.. wasted a lot of money on molding material 🤦🏽♀️
Lol. Same here! My “ I got this” mentality was expensive. 😂😂
I am a welder and your tips will help me greatly. I really appreciate your shared expertise. Thank you!
You're welcome, thanks for being a part of this channel!
35 is the correct angle. 110 from 180 is 70. Divided by two pieces of crown is 35.
can you make a video showing how to do that with baseboard standing up.
Tried all methods, this was the best one
Did this for the first time in my life doing what you said in the video - it came out great!! Thank you so much!!
youtubingal that’s awesome! You’re welcome
Can you show me how to take the first angle cut, so that it is flush with the board with the 110* written on it?

Is there an outside angle video, too, or is it the same ?
th-cam.com/video/JFmo2uOq0Xw/w-d-xo.html.
Found it!
What if the angle is 85°?
I'm looking to cut odd angle internal mitres on skirting board (I think you call it base board) on my mitre saw, but I have to lay the board flat on the saw base as its too tall to cut upright. Would the bevel angles be the same as the mitre angles you demonstrated here?
Hi . This is an old video but can you explain same concept but with two boards with different width. Thanks
Hi would this apply to mitring kitchen worktop thank you
Why pull the guard back on the mitre saw? Also how well does that saw operate?
I am doing crown and I am having trouble with a bullnose. There is an odd angle near my fireplace and I just cannot figure this one out. I used my angle finder and know the angle is 120 degrees outside cut. However I cannot seem to figure out the cuts? Can you please help with some advice? Thank you.
Set your saw at 30 degree angle. 180-120=60 60/2=30
Could this be used for a vertical inside corner, i.e. for cutting quarter round?
Yes but you would need a table saw and it would be too dangerous to cut that way
Great tip. I'll use it to install new barge boards. Thankyou.
Question. Can you put a video together like this using this inside corner trick with an outside corner. Such is for baseboard molding. Thank you.
john ortega agree
Can this trick be used on outside boards?
That's a brilliant tip - I can never find a protractor so I'm just going to use this from now on.
Great tip for measuring angles when replacing rotten fascia boards on a garden shed.
Wow. I needed that 2 days ago. Will remember that for my next project.
Your explanation is “Gold” ! Thanks for sharing! You’re the best mentor! 😁
So the connected wood stencil needs to be glues at 90 ° for me to cut a perfect 45° angle right?
If we dont have mitre saw...?? Any idea??
is there a trick on how to find the of angle where the end grain meets a wall instead of another board you can cut
Another great tip. Tk you sir, I used your angle finder trick today and was able to walk away looking like a know it all tks to you 😉 👍
Thanks I'm trying to install corner shelf onto a wall big help 👍
gonna have to get a miter for my floor molding. tried cutting with a jig saw with it set to 45 and the blade didn't stay straight. Good tip though thanks.
Does this work when the corner is less than 90 degrees?
The saw setting should be 35.
180-110=70
70/2=35
The actual angle is 55 degrees. (110/2)
How do I know this? You taught me 😀
Thank you. For those who have a corner fireplace or bookcase or closet that fills in a 90 corner wall, that angle is 90+45=135 degrees.
180-135 =45. 45/2=22.5 degrees. Set the saw to 22.5 and make you cuts for base board molding.
So the 2 pieces that you cut actually added up to 108 degrees right.
36 degrees - 90 degrees = 54 degrees times 2
This technique works even if the two pieces are different widths, but you have to draw a reference line on the second piece as well. The angles on the two pieces will be different from each other but will still add up to the total corner angle.
Yes sir, I actually have a video on that
Always apreciate your simple solution videos thanks again!
donald harris anything for you brother
This is another great tutorial on angles and how to get there.
However, I do have some questions:
I noticed on the first model you had 110 degrees angle, and from your previous videos you mention dividing that in half, which would be 55.
On the miter that would be 35...if I'm following you correctly...right?
However, you made the cut at 36, so does that 1 degree make a big difference?
Enough to show a gap in the inside corner, especially if you're not caulking the gap.
Thank you again for all you do!
I was wondering the same thing
Which miter saw do u recommend?
I was looking at dewalt or hitachi
Sometimes its just those little brillent ways to do things that work. Thanks.
Patt Montez you are correct....you’re welcome!
I spent two hours today learning the same thing with math and without knowing the angle im given. And i was amazed how the math matched with my angle finder spot on. But i admit this way is easier.
GreAt video. I didn't know you were kneeling down I thought your knee was your head on the first cut. Thanks for the video. I find this useful.
BRILLIANT! Simple but effective tip for framing, trim and more!
Excellent video
Genious. Subbed Ive done renos for 13 years I do everything but trim and electrial and plumbing but have been doing a lot of trim now and ur videos have helped me massively thanks a lot!😊👍
Jessica Trom your welcome!
Hi i just love wood the smell of it to. We would love to make small Houses I buy them out of Pine and gift them to family and friends. Never have bought anything like this or work with a Saw before. Any help would be great. Many Thanks.
Absolutely brilliant sir👍🏻

Fantastic video for a girl like me. Can't wait to try it
You got a new sub 👍
Shoutouts from Brooklyn New York
Thanks for sharing your knowledge master 🙏
Easiest angle video to follow so far. And I've watched a bunch of them
Darryl Wheeler thank you my friend....if you have time check out my channel I have a few videos on angle cutting.....thanks for watching!
I absolutely love your videos. The way you explain each step. Thank you very much
you are awesome. Thanks for sharing all your tips
Dear god I wish I had found this before I started doing the base board! This was super helpful!
You used this method to cut base boards?
Another easy way......use a T-bevel; set it at the angle. Transfer it to a board or flat, square surface; mark along the blade and use a protractor or Speed Square; to measure the angle and simply divide it in two. 👍
how do I know when to cut the line or save the line ?
For this technique it doesn’t matter....its all about finding the correct angle on your miter saw to cut whatever trim you are installing.
wouldn't it be too short or too long?
Use the thinnest available marking tool- ink pen, mechanical pencil , or razor knife.
For trim, cut a board exactly 10", place in corner and measure to that board; then add 10". (Saves u from bending tape into corners).
Then you'll know whether to leave, split, or cut out the line.
Why not leave the line and slow creep up on the cut exactly so the kerf doesnt mess you up?
Old school RULES!! 👍👍👏🏻👏🏻
Super helpful...Thanks for sharing your knowledge I really appreciate it
Would that work for baseboard?
Yes it will
You just made my life so much easier!
workz on crown molding too🤔
This is real world carpentry, I'm 87 years old & built colleges for people to learn in, learned like this before colleges.
Absolutely brilliant!!!
Super simple and explained well.. Thanks for the tip brother! I'm def gonna be using this one
Joseph Ponder your welcome!
Very good. Do one on the outside of those boards or a wall. I am trying to build a plant stand around a wall with 2 corners and angles off about 50 degrees or so (not sure eyeballing it). \__/ something like that for the wall.
Just what I needed.. thanks alot man!
I lost my angle finder and my speed square. But if you use the speed square you could get the angle b4 u draw the line
Hard to mark angels using base boards or crown molding
kcmike7 don’t mark them on the baseboard or crown...use two pieces of scrap wood. Then your saw will be set to the correct angle to cut...then put your baseboard on and cut.
This guy makes it so easy 👍👏
Very informative video. Thanks.
So useful! My room is bowed like a rainbow. Doing baseboards soon :) thank you
You're welcome!
this is brilliant, saved me so much time- thank you
Excellent video saved me a ton of irritation lol thanks
HI MY MEN I BEEN LEARNING FROM YOU,YOU ARE VERY GOOD EXPLAIN EVERY THINKG THANK YOU.
