This part really hit me. I used to be obese (180 lbs), my parents would always tell me to stop eating because I was fat. Then I got sick (with food trauma) and became Anorexic, I lost half my weight and was down to 90 lbs. I would only eat 300 calories a day because I was scared to eat (I would get panic attacks just thinking of eating). My mom would cry a lot saying that I needed to eat. So even though my story isn't exactly the same as the drama I could still relate. It's been 7 years since that time in my life and I'm now doing better with food and have been able to maintain a healthy weight at 107 lbs.

I watched the first episode of the series. My mom is exactly the same as his mom, cruel, cold and harsh. Plus, my mom would physically beat me and verbally abuse me if I didn’t get a good grade. Everything is valid for the sake of going to a good college and having a successful career. They might mean well, but the trauma is for life. My mom thinks she is the best mom in the whole world and I no longer speak to her, just like him. The irony is that my mom used to be high school teacher before she retired.

There are some people that yes, they were impacted by their life, but under no means have the right to inflict pain to their children! My mother had a similar mother to yours and she was awful to her , doing a lot of pretty harsh things to her. She did have a bad ubringing, but after some time, you are responsible for your own actions. We were no contact with her for almost 20 years and my mom has been the happiest she has ever been. Don't feel bad for not contacting your mother. She sounds like an evil person and got what she deserves.

@@fedoua5243 Well, my grandparents, which are my mom’s parents, never laid a hand on their six kids, including my mom. They are actually one of the most happy couples I have ever seen. My mom never endured any physical or verbal abuse from them. It is more the other way around. My mom has OCD. She would order around my grandfather to clean. One time, he threw her out of his house, because my mom yelled at him for not washing his hands before dinner… Growing up, my parents fought a lot. I wanted them to get a divorce. But they didn’t. My mom has serious mood swing. She would be happy and chatty, and then a minute later, she would slap me on my face because I didn’t agree with her. My teenager years were so tough. I wouldn’t had pulled through if I didn’t have a loving father… In fact, my dad is a victim too. I gave her many chances, but she squandered them. Every time, I told her all the pain she inflicted on me, she would be outrageous calling me an ungrateful brat. She can’t accept the fact that she was ever wrong. It took me ten years to accept the fact that she loves her ego much much more than me. And I am at peace with it. My life has never been better. What I am trying to say is that cut all the toxic things and people off your life. It works.

She reminds me of my mother and her not getting why I have anger and emotional control issues. Parents really need to be more aware of the long term effects the things they do and say have, and also not eating enough if you need to study is what will make you tired as you won't have the energy for your brain to fully function and take everything in.

I hate when parents weaponize food against you. When I was a kid I was an early bloomer and had a slightly thicker body compared to my thinner older sister. My parents constantly made comments that I was getting too fat and needed to lose weight, even though I was just a child and knew nothing about dieting. Relatives and family friends would praise how thin and pretty my sister was while barely acknowledging me. Eventually I developed depression and an eating disorder. In my early adulthood I gained so much weight from the anti-depressants that the body shaming got worse. I did manage to lose weight and only then did people started paying attention to me more. However, this did not make me happy. It only made me more desperate to keep off the weight, so I started doing extreme diets and even secretly spat out my food. I especially get triggered whenever my mom tried to push me to eat more or tell me how to eat. It felt like I had no control over something as enjoyable as food.

I think we as the one inflicted by this unecessary trauma should end the cycle, theres no excuse on being not knowing or we uncapable of love even if its not our kid maybe to other people, nobody deserve this trauma, but, everyone deserve a good future and theres a way for that, society need to care for each rather than being selfish, thats why things like this happen

The love story in the series is quite interesting, and presumably he and his girlfriend had twin babies, but they haven't revealed the father yet, but it's obvious as they loved each other so much. She even took care of the finances so he could give bar exams, and they even stayed together, but unfortunately, they broke up, and the reason hasn't been revealed yet.

What Asian parents fail to realize is they punish their kids, thinking it’s for the kid’s well being, for society’s well being, when it’s all for the parent’s own ego. Ego to have an obedient child with good grades, someone that plays the instrument the parent cannot play, and marry whomever the parent likes.
It’s been decades, and I’m still working on growing out of the shadow of my parents’s ego. I’m still working on forgiveness, on accepting them for who they are, egotistic or not.

Not necessarily the fault of asian parents. You need to remember they grew up during a very dark time(s). What you see as abuse is seen as discipline. It was necessary. Unfortunately that gets forced onto kids, but it's understandable.

For me she was the bad mom in story but noticed that he WAS NEVER NEVER NEVER a bad son. Even though what she did any other man will be traumatized and leave her. But he still loved and cared for her. He know that he and his loved ones were in danger. So he choose to leave them rather than loosing them forever. ❤❤❤❤

She will always be a worst mom though I know the reasons and explainations. I know she suffered a lot but their was no fault of son. She had no right to take his all life decisions forcing him to do what she wants in a most abusive manner. Not letting him eat to a absolutely stupid reason. I even think was she really his biological mother. Such a abusive and heartless mother ever 😢😢😢

And gets scolding from my mom coz she says you will feel sick if you didn't eat well....at times she just put up snacks in our room for me to eat at night coz she knows i can't really sleep hungry lol....

I'm 31 and still have an emotional relationship with food from trauma my mom inflicted on me as a kid which started when I was around 7. She was obsessed with my weight bc I was in sports and she would compare me to the other kids (the other moms were doing to the same to theirs as well) and one time in my early teens she told me when she felt a bit heavy she'd not eat for 3 days and would feel thin again. I was shocked that she'd told me this and hurt that she was encouraging that habit onto me. I didn't do it but to this day I still feel a small stab of guilt when I snack on junk food or feel 'heavy' aka too full. Some years ago I had a mental breakdown and it was like I'd reverted back into a kid again, I had hurt myself bc my mom would discipline me when I didn't get first place, so that pain and disappointment in myself transferred into adulthood. Thankfully I've taken charge of my life and work hard to heal thru therapy and forgiveness. I'm still midway thru the show but I wanted to see if anyone commented on this scene so I'd know that I'm not alone in this feeling.

I am going to be honest a lot impacts a young mind, I was raised with my elders and relatives as my parents were unable to manage handling me once I was 3 years. Though 3 is a young age not having your mother around is traumatic and I still bare some bad memories from my childhood. I simply couldn't forgive my parents for letting me be away for 14 years till I completed high school. Result I am too hyper Independent and treat myself like a separate entity, its something I can't change. I am kind, I care about others and I am social, its just that I don't ask help or believe anyone can help me. Side effects of keeping young children away when they craved parents attention. I am glad the mother realizes her mistake

@@memonomoto7419 I totally get you. It's such a conflict because although I'm not a super huge fan of kids, I still like them, and the thought of having one of my own fills me with warmth BUT at the same time it terrifies me because of the 'what if's. I myself dont know how to cope with my mental break downs and I dont want my kids to suffer or take responsibilities for something I should deal on my own. My heart goes out to you, they say time heals but I know that's not true. But I do hope you dont have to feel bad for something that's a result of trauma caused by others while also working on trying to fix them :)
