I just recently played and I loved it so much but had to disable bc I hacked so many people that I was getting hackers every 2 minutes in my game lmao. I remember I felt like I was being followed so I walked into a parking garage where no NPC ever goes and then I took cover by a car and waited. 10 seconds later when the hacker walked in I knew and shot him. Then another time I was walking and heard a commotion on the corner and knew it was a player who couldn't drive and hit something so I went sprinting, saw the car, parkour(ed? Lmao ) over the hood of another car and then emptied a clip into the windshield of the player's car. When you get to the point of finding and killing the hacker before they even find you or start the hack then that's when it gets really addicting. Really had me paranoid too 😂 which probably helped immerse me even more in Aiden's character. Got to the point where if something went wrong and I wasn't sure if it was just the AI being off, a bug, or my imagination then I would end up killing an innocent lol. Old man walking my way a bit too fast?? Better safe than sorry....lol. I adored the time I spent in this game's pvp.

The Watch Dogs series had such a promising premise. It was new, had a fresh take on open-world games, introduced an interesting concept of hacking. They had a brilliant idea. Even the idea of Watch Dogs Legion - anybody can be the hero - was a great idea. However, the execution and the handling of the whole series could've and should've been much better. It is sad to see the series in destitution now. I hope the movie will be good and will reinvigorate people's interest in the franchise.

Definitely my favorite Watch Dogs game. The story was fantastic. WD2 was also good, a worthy sequel and had some things you could do with the hacks that are among my best memories but the story on the first was the best. Far and away. Although I was enormously excited for Legion, the simple fact is that it's strength was also it's biggest single weakness. How much story can you have when all the characters are interchangable. As far as the way the first has aged, well, I just finished my fourth playthrough. Had a blast as always. Good vid

The first is my favorite, love the story, Aiden Pearce, Jordi (who was okay in the second game), Chicago, the fact that game devs still had the audacity to kill off such an important character (as well as make an urban legend not so legendary). Maybe it's just a me thing, but it'd be interesting to see Aiden Pearce as an assassin

Watch Dogs came bundled with my PS4 when I got it, accorfing to my PS5, it is the game, by a substantial margin, which I have put the most time into, it is still probably my favorite game.
I love both 1 and 2, couldn't say which one is my favorite, honestly I can say which one I like least, but I can never really say which one I like best.
Legion is... okay, I definately see the argument about the lack of distinct personality by the recruits, but I still enjoy certain aspects of the game, as a barely travelled person, with London being one of the few places I have ever been (and one of about three places that would ever get a game set in it) I enjoy being somewhere in the game whereI've actually been.

Watch Dogs 2 doesn't hold a candle to 1. No gun takedowns, went from 30-50 guns on you to 2 and a bunch of non lethal methods that was built to feel how it was played, like gunplay (60% of open world crime games activities include gunplay) was never a main focus and is nothing but insult worthy, a terrible story with an even woke group of "friends", and it was made with the backlash from the original living in the developers heads rent-free. As good as 1 was, they took the backlash and made a game somehow in the same series feel like the opposite of the original. We never got a sequel to Watch_Dogs, only a few games after the original that thought if it made these changes it'll be a game changer (a GTA competitor iyw) but ofc Ubisoft never realized they had a gem that could've easily been one.

Riddle me this, if it actually improved how did it do sales wise compared to 1? My original point being when you actually improve in a game series, as long as you didn't completely f'd the game up, you'll pull more sales especially in the OW genre (examples being SR2 sold more than 1, San Andreas crushed any GTA in the trilogy, and GTA 5 to 4?? Firstly the video above is wrong. Both games sold a similar amount despite Watch Dogs 1 existing for longer than Watch dogs 2 (and there false advertising WD1 had). Secondly you can absolutely have a sequel do financially “worse” and still be a better game then it’s predecessor. I.e. FF7 rebirth.
Secondly the one unique thing that made Watch dogs 1 stand out was its hacking element. Not the edge lord protagonist that so many other games had, not the dark tone ether. The hacking. And that’s what Watch Dogs 2 DRAMATICALLY improved.
The gameplay went from a generic third person shooter with a hacking gimmick. To an actual stealth shooter with hacking being a core aspect of the over all experience. You could do non-lethal runs in WD2 or even complete a mission without stepping inside the mission area. You don’t have this level of freedom in WD1. Plus controlling cars in WD2 was so cool and unique for that game

The first game felt like a book or movie you didn't want to end. It felt like you were playing a spy thriller. There was this addictive voyeurism to it of playing a character capable of taking on the underworld.
It puts you in the shoes of a character that feels powerful, but in a grounded way. A good example is one of the first missions where his sister is getting pranked called by some creep. That would scare most people, but as Aiden you have the ability to find this person. I won't spoil, but its sets up the game from there. Every time I stopped a crime taking place, I would always execute the person when they are on the ground. It just makes me feel like I'm dishing out hard and swift justice.
The soundtrack is also very underrated and the game can get pretty intense. I remember that mission where you had to track down hacker Defalt. It felt satisfying to catch him bc he seemed like a better hacker than you.

I really want to see another WD game in the style of 1. A grittier, more violent, game with a more personal story and antihero type character. Even Legion was a pretty good immersive sim style game and had things to like, but the ‘play as anyone’ mechanic and lack of protagonist just did not work. Legion is far better if you have the Season Pass that lets you play as Aiden or Wrench through the whole campaign. Bloodlines was a step in the right direction as well and there is still a lot of potential here. I hope they don’t fully bury the IP and reconsider it’s future.

Ubi should focus on remaking this game, like making a next-gen update or a E3 version. The plot and the story of the first one is amazing, i remember at the start when confronting the person who killed Aiden's niece, he lets him go, but if you are a person who likes collectibles you can find audios that explain how he regrets killing her, at the end of the campaign you can decide whether to kill him or let him live. the first games i got with my first gaming computer (which was a laptop) were Watch_Dogs and AC: Unity, which came as a two-pack. my love for these games may be due in large part to nostalgia, but i really do adore them. people say that Aidan's boring but he's just not over-the-top (same with Connor). as someone whose expressions of emotion are also fairly muted, i always found him pretty compelling. the story and characters are all great, just again muted in comparison to what people seem to like. i've never been to the US, but Watch_Dogs' Chicago is familiar to me as someone who grew in Northern England: outwardly drab, while teeming with life. i think that, in general, it's a fairly grounded game, and that that seems to have been a point against it. the characters aren't all incredibly loud and obnoxious; the story is largely focused on one man and how his very personal quest for revenge hurts the people he loves; and the city isn't populated entirely by hysterical stereotypes.
i love the whimsy of Watch_Dogs 2 and i definitely find the concept of its story more interesting, but a story about a hacktivist group was never going to be done properly in a AAA game by a major studio and it came out toothless. then they doubled down on the "aesthetically political but practically toothless" idea with Legion while stripping it of 2's whimsy to leave a disappointing mess with few redeeming features

It was so good I even made my friend buy it XD, but right after finishing wd 1 I bought wd 2, which I still haven´t finished. Wd1 just had its athmosphere, the characters, the animations (I even started training with and telescopic baton, not knowing that its NOT a silent weapon, you literally have to smash in the ground with the top of it, not just collapse it by hand like Aiden does), and mostly, THE BLACKOUTS. Such a cool feature, but I think Ubisoft won´t be able to make a wd game as good as the original. But one of my favorites games surley.

I haven't played it actually! I never felt interested in Watch Dogs, but then my sister made me play Legion when I was at her place and I had SO much fun, so I immediately told my boyfriend about it and he ordered it for me on Black Friday, which was super nice of him and then we played it for soooo many hours, it's a HUGE game and we played it for weeks whilst having covid (rip, my dad had to take care of us - two fully grown adults, during those weeks...) and it's a huge part of 2020 for me, that game made a huge impact on me. So I just bought Watch Dogs 2 actually! It's fun, I'm definitely enjoying it, but I really loved how Legion was made, every part of that story as well. Watch Dogs OG looks really cool as well, I do hate family drama though and have had enough of both that and grief so that part is a bit off-putting, unfortunately, because the main character himself seems great.

Still one of my favourite games ever, hard to believe Ubisoft would drop the ball on such a unique concept... you get a fix for so many things all at once, stealth, combat, the hacking element, side challenges, the digital trips, driving missions, all in a dark urban fantasy setting that is relatable because it's grounded in reality. The characters are also so fleshed out, and the story pulls you in. They were bold to tackle heavy subjcts like organised crime and human trafficking and still did in in a way that isn't exploitative or vapid, it makes you feel something when you face these things in the game knowing they're part of our reality. Another thing I love is the vigilantism aspect, personally I feel better slaying criminals than playing as one, and as much as I love GTA it kind of glamourises crime, whereas WD1 looks at it the way we usually do IRL.

  • @calelsun

I thought it was so cool and hardly noticed the visual downgrade on PS4 at the time. Felt like gta but a hacker batman as the character. Give us another one like 1 or 2 with some of the positives of Legion and I'd take it over GTA tbh. Ik that's like sacrilege in the gamer community lol but I like watchdogs, JustCause, and the older Saints Row games so much more than GTA. I have online but GTA V irritates me with how we never really got any extra post launch support or content for the single player which is where I prefer to spend my time. Watchdogs has probably my favorite online ever and it's just a simple tackon and I NEVER like pvp. Apart from some cheap tactics and sore losers who quit the game when they're losing it's perfect. One time I thought I was being followed so i went into a parking garage bc I never see NPCs there and I took cover by a car and shot the first person I saw walking in knowing it was a player. It really is such an immersive game. If I'm walking down the street and hear a big commotion then I take off sprinting bc I know it's a player who can't drive 😂. Honestly anyone who hasn't done the online, try it. I played 1 about 4 months ago I think and it was still active on PlayStation.

I really liked the original. Being in my 30's now might have something to do with it, but I related to Aiden more than other characters. Also, I really dug the hybrid singleplayer/multiplayer thing where someone could "invade" your session and you had to scramble to find them. The City also had a charm to it, it's hard to explain but it just had more character and a stronger vibe. I did buy and play Watch Dogs 2 on launch, and while IRL I love the geography of San Fran (outside their current issues), the in-game representation felt empty and didn't have the same charm as the Chicago map. Also sometimes in Watch Dogs 2 it felt like I was playing through what I imagine a Gen Z'er or emotionally-stunted Millennials fantasy would be. Just seemed corny sometimes.

I do believe that despite none of the protagonists of Legion (apart from Aiden and Wrench) having a true set-apart personality, they did have 'culture', so to speak. Many characters come from different area's or ethnicities, and this makes it so dialogue in cutscenes is different depending on your character's 'background'. The Birmingham male voice will have a different way to say "Alright, I'm on it", than the Irish guy. There were times when it made certain cutscenes funny, because you already played the game, and a certain mission with one character, and are replaying it with another, and then they say something unexpected.
In a sense, it does add some semblance of personality, but like I said, in a more 'cultural' way.
There is something, however, that the Bloodlines expansion showed, which is that the game's setting is a pretty good one for a Watch Dogs game. I've said before that I felt that Legion went back to the dark and gritty origins of the franchise, with a dystopian 2030, where we almost live in a cyberpunk/biopunk society, with shady corporations running the society itself, and corrupt members of government, etc. The DLC proves that if you can manage to create one (or two) single lense through which to focus the experience of this world, and actually making a way to connect the character(s) to the world and story in a personal manner, it would have worked. Like MasterAssassin said, it really should have been a game about Aiden. I'm just imagining if they had made the game exactly as it is, but simply made Aiden the protagonist, with Bloodlines being the beginning of the game, then flowing over to 6 months later in the main story, where you experience it from the perspective of Aiden Pearce trying to piece everything together.
