    Horizontal root fractures below the gum line always require the tooth to be extracted

    I have a horizontal root fracture in my upper right tooth and unfortunately it's in the coronal part, my tooth mobility is very minimal can it heal on its own? Will it get an infection if i don't treat it? Is the possibility of infection high if not treated? By the way I'm using Invisalign and my Invisalign treatment is almost finished i only have 3 more trays left, i was on my 7th tray when the trauma happened i know that i shouldn't change the 8th tray but i did! Can the retainer help my mobile root fractured tooth if i stop the Invisalign treatment on my 8th or 9th tray (because I'm almost satisfied with the result)?!

    Can these root fractures lead to infection or abcess? And can this be done without a splint if it's coronal?

    • @TheComprehensiveDentist
      @TheComprehensiveDentist  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is possible it could lead to abscess. If coronal, the mobility of the tooth is the key. The tooth needs to be stable and lack excessive movement so the tooth can stabilize and heal.

    Hello. What if after 4 weeks of flexible splinting there is no attachment can we extract the root-fractured tooth immediately or wait for another weeks?

    Thanks so much, I did a root canal treatment but the doctor told me that one root for my tooth is blocked, we have to wait and he did some treatment but I feel some pain when eating, so what causes that root to b blocked

    In what scenarios of root fractures would you consider extraction?

    • @TheComprehensiveDentist
      @TheComprehensiveDentist  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      hw1637 extraction is always a possibility, especially with root fractures that are more coronal. Splinting is a good option but endo could be likely. Some patients may not want to pay for that kind of treatment.

    You are extraordinarily good communicator. You presented a valuable lesson that too few practicioners either understand or are concerned about. Excellent work, and thank you.

      NAD… I’m assuming because bacteria could enter the tooth, you then get an infection & then an abscess, which can be dangerous???

      @@TheComprehensiveDentist so just to be clear, these root fractures can heal after 3 months, ie. if it eventually responds to cold therapy, that means the fracture has healed?

    i got in a bike accident 2 days ago and two front teeth are hurting, my left one is slightly loose but my right one is more lose and hurts badly, my parents said it may be from swelling, do you think there’s a chance it could be a root fracture? my face is swollen pretty bad

    in deep root-crown fracture is it possible to do RCT and then re-attach the fracture segment? or extraction is treatment option ?
    or by another word in which case RCT useless?

    • @TheComprehensiveDentist
      @TheComprehensiveDentist  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bryar muhammad many times with a crown-root fracture, the fracture position can vary. I would not foresee a frequent option where the fragment could be used as a permanent fix. I have used the segment as a temporary fix a few times but the most apical part of the fracture often goes subgingival. This could make sealing the gap difficult and lead to leakage, secondary caries and periodontal problems.
