the EU (to my fellow european citizens that are 18 check out DiscoverEU!!!) and so im travelling trough a few countries by train. I started out in Switzerland (I’m from Germany), went to Innsbruck in Austria, then Ljubljana and Bohinj in Slovenia and now I’m currently in Bled, Slovenia. After this I’m going to Budapest and then Vienna I think, but I’m actually so spontaneous with this ticket it’s so cool!!

    My advice:
    1. If you're from the US and do a lot of international travel, get Google Fi or T-Mobile for your phone plan. Unlimited data/text in 210+ countries means you don't have to worry about getting a local SIM or finding local wifi. Besides the trouble it saves, I think always having a connection is much safer (for communication and for GPS).
    2. Get a backpack that is carry-on size, it'll really decrease the chance of your bag being lost in transit. Her bag looks way over that size limit.
    3. Offline Google maps is great, but can be annoying to download large areas (eg. an entire country). Also Google is bad with trails. While I use Google as my primary maps, I also have MAPS.ME which lets you download the entire country easily, has much better trail coverage (and when routing, shows you the altitude changes) and has offline routing for walking in all countries.
    4. Unfortunately, sexism in many countries is a lot more than what Americans are used to. Depending on the country, if I was a woman, I would feel safer wearing loose comfortable pants, as opposed to tights or shorts. I don't like victim blaming, and women _should_ be free to wear whatever they want, but it's important to realize that not all other countries have the same values. In the end, you can only control your own actions that affect your safety.
Otherwise, I agree with all her other tips.

By ingnoring their advances you’re actually not discriminating but doing it with your discretion. We should not trust no one especially strangers but it’s doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be polite to them. These will hopefully keep you safe.

Hi Lexie! I’ve been doing solo travel for 11 years now... I’m originally from Hawaii now based in Santa Monica, California. I try to leave the county 2-3x a year for 2-4 weeks at a time. That’s the most I can be away from work and my 600 houseplants. I was lucky to go to Jordan, Lebanon and revisit Egypt this past February before the world shut down. I was in the Philippines in August 2019 and all over Egypt in January 2019.

I started to travel alone late summer 2019 and It felt so liberating. The only few uncomfortable situations i've been in and started seeing red flags is once i went to a restaurant in Europe and the waiter kept coming back to my table and asking personal things like oh how long are you staying here for are you alone or with somebody, have you been here before & constantly tooing and froing to my table and then he asked if i can meet him after his shift to which i looked dead into his face with a smile and said no sorry with 0 explanation lol!!! he was so embarrassed he got another person to get me my bill 😄 I hate when people are unprofessional and start crossing lines at work!!

Great tips, especially how you handled the two dudes that wanted to hire a videographer. Absolutely correct, you are under no moral obligation to do anything that raises your hackles. Scam artists try to take advantage of your altruism first, then your ego. If that doesn't work, then straight up deceit, and failing that, force.

    Excellent points!
At some point during my trip in South America I had to leave my friends in Huaraz, Peru, as I was sick and they were going to do a 8 day trek.
I decided to continue on my own and go visit Ecuador for a week, combining a trip to the Galapagos as well.
It was amazing. I have to tell you, the main reason I felt confident about doing it on my own was knowing the language. As I'm not a native Spanish speaker, but Italian, I knew how to handle myself and was able to communicate with everyone with no problem. I took three consecutive buses as they were 4 times cheaper than a flight, and it gave me a sence of independence and self-confidence in my abilities to take care of myself in a foreign country. It lasted in total two weeks until I finally rejoined my friend in Colombia.
Definately an important experience to have to boost up your travelling skills!

I just came back from my first solo trip and first trip abroad. I only had Saturday and Sunday to explore Canada as much as I could so I used the Public transit system for the first time. got lost a lot, but the people were very helpful. I took lots of screenshots of the maps just in case. I even lost my phone!!! in the snow at night! On the first night, I got there and it was snowing a lot. Luckily someone found it and saw me looking like a crazy person looking for my phone, and gave it back. because I was limited on time I walked 13miles each day just to see as much as I could. My body hurts so much, but I made so many new friends and had such a wonderful time that the pain and problems I had along the trip were not such a big deal. Currently running on 2hrs of sleep because I had to go to work as soon as I got of my plane.

And I’m from the south where we get little to no snow 😅 I was always checking my phone to make sure I was going the right way took me awhile to finally get the hang of it and now that I’m back home I miss the public transit I loved not having to drive or look for parking 🤣

it’s cool to hear your tips! I’ve solo traveled to all 50 US states, 5 Canadian provinces, and 23 countries and in parallel have come up with similar tips as you :) However back in the day before cell phones I never updated someone by text, I just tried to bond with local people because especially in remote locations, friends and family thousands of miles away are useless anyway - mine, at least, unless you have friends and family in the travel or international relations fields, lucky you! I enroll my travels with the government and put the embassy on speed dial, bc those feel more useful to me than updating someone back home who might be sleeping anyway.

Hi Lexie! Thank you so much for making these incredibly helpful informational videos! I was wondering if you might be able to make a video about how you coped with getting sick abroad - specifically about how you avoided getting sick from eating food abroad. Even when I go back from the United States to the country I was born in, Pakistan, I still find myself getting violently sick pretty frequently (vomiting/diarrhea/etc) from eating food there, especially outside food. During these moments, it’s usually pretty helpful for me to have family around, but I was wondering how you handle such moments as a solo female traveler? Thank you ♥️

Hello! New to your channel and I’m loving it! Have you ever considered making a video of traveling must haves and or what I pack for a trip? As a fellow solo female traveler I’m always trying to slim down my packing and seeing what other travelers find useful. Thanks!

I’m really enjoying your content! Very inspiring!
    Aloha, Jewelyn ✈️

I really really really like this. I have so many places I want to go and so many things I want to do in life, but if I wait for people to come with me it will never happen. People say traveling alone is so lonely, but if you really want to see the world then sometimes you just might have to do this.

I would love to see a video where you list the things you can not travel without. Every time I pack it's so stressful and I end up with random things in my bag I never use. Would be amazing to see what essential things you value for travel.
