It's sad to think that during Donald Duck's 50th anniversary and during this episode's production Clarence Nash had developed leukemia and passed away a year later, but his legacy and the duck live on through his protégé Tony Anselmo.
1:41 That right there is a young Tony Anselmo when he could hardly do the voice at the time and when he didn't even realized Clarence Nash was guiding him to be the next voice of Donald Duck.
My great grandpa was the original voice of Donald Duck. Clarence "Ducky" Nash. UPDATE More information has come to me recently through my father that clarified Clarence was in fact my great STEP grandfather. My grandpa on my dads side married Kay. In fact Clarence is not related by blood but by marriage. I apologize for this misunderstanding . Growing up my mother always told me he was my "great grandpa" and I always accepted it as fact.
Clarence is my great uncle. His sister, Etta Nash married Fay, they had 3 boys and 3 girls, the youngest my mom Mary. I still picture Clarence coming to Independence Missouri every couple of years with the duck, and all my uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. It was such a thrill, he was a real character!
@@Innersolgames thank you for replying! I never met any of Clarence's children. So indeed we are in a small part blood related, how cool! I will never quit thinking about him. I used to do voice impersonations years ago just for the fun of it. And other sounds and animal noises, I would always say it's because of being related to Clarence!
Der Fuehrer's Face is my favorite Donald Duck cartoon. Der Fuehrer's Face was also the first of two animated short films to be set during the War to win an Oscar, the other being Tom and Jerry's short film, The Yankee Doodle Mouse.
One of the most memorable performances by Donald Duck came a few years after this show: The piano dueling sequence in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Such a thrill to watch Donald and Daffy together. I really wish they would make a sequel to that movie!
When Donald Duck's original voice artist Clarence Nash died from leukemia at the age of 80 on February 20, 1985, Disney animator Tony Anselmo became the current official voice of the character with the exception of "Chip and Dale's Nutty Tales" and the Disney Junior series "Mickey and the Roadster Racers" (later retitled "Mickey Mouse Mixed-Up Adventures" for its third season) in which Donald's voice is provided by Daniel Ross.
Fact: Nash also provided the voices of "قطط" cats 🐈 Figaro and Dinah and did the barking of the dogs 🐕 like Lafayette (Aristocats , uncredited of course )
Back when my older brother was in the Coast Guard, I drew, inked, and colored an exact copy of an insignia of Donald Duck as a badass-looking pirate that the Disney artists made for the Coast Guard during World War II, all without tracing. At the time I wanted to go to CalArts, so I intended for that to be in my submission portfolio. I found the image I replicated in a big book on the Coast Guard's history and my brother compared my drawing to the original and liked it so much that he actually got it tattooed on his arm, the only difference was that the tattoo artist flipped it like in a mirror. I could have been a tattoo artist, given how well I can draw, but don't like the idea of working on live canvasses. As a kid, I never collected Marvel or DC comics, I collected Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comics by Carl Barks.
Donald Duck is one of few celebrities with actual talent. He's an actor, a singer, a dancer, a sportsman, a humantarian, and an educator. He is an ambassador to South America, helped out in World War II, and hasn't aged at all. Not even his voice aged. He still sounds quacky after all these years. (Note: This comment treats Donald Duck like he is real. He is not. I just love Donald Duck so much.)
If Clarence Nash was still alive, he would have been 85 years in 1989, 90 in 1994, 95 in 1999, 100 in 2004, 105 in 2009, 110 in 2014 and 115 in 2019. And by December 7th of this year, he would turn 120. Hopefully he is having a nice time in heaven. With his wife.

I really enjoy watching Nash at 19:54 in this video. Obviously, this was not the type of music he grew up with, and it would be completely understandable if he didn’t enjoy the music of the 1980s because of how far removed it was from the music that surrounded him throughout his life. Here, though, he really seems genuinely happy when he’s dancing along with the Donald tribute record. It’s nice to see that he could keep up with the times; it’s for that same reason that I really enjoyed listening to him on the 1980s Disney Records like Splashdance and Mousercise (the album shown in this video). Thanks for sharing.
The tour mentioned at the end of the episode, airplane and all, is featured in an anniversary special all about Donald that was hosted by Dick Van Dyke!
