I don't understand the "wash, rinse, repeat" mentality of the entertainment industry. Take a beloved IP, race and gender swap the main character(s), interject a steaming pile of social justice, fail, blame the "trolls"".
Because it’s state sponsored propaganda, not customer controlled even though they fleece the consumer.

@No Nope almost 10 years now actually, it started small. It's infected more and more people, possibly more younger adults joining the fray.
Because it's easier to bait people to watch something either out of hate or fear of being labeled as something bad than actually putting in genuine effort to making something people naturally desire. The IP already has an established audience that is attached to said property so whatever they do it will guarantee eyes on it regardless of quality. Race and gender swapping is a way to bait and artificially create controversy. Why put in effort and money for promos and marketing material for a good product when you can just create low-effort sludge and race/gender bait the audience into watching something instead at a much cheaper cost?

I just can’t believe that they filmed that singing dancing scene, looked over at one another and said “this is a banger” then released it for millions of people to see. And expected that the people watching, would like it and wanna see more.

That dance scene, remains one of the dumbest things I have ever seen in a series like this. To call it “cringe,” doesn’t quite scratch the surface of the layers of embarrassment that I feel for the show writers, haven written this complete disaster. One season..one EPISODE was FAR more than enough of this TRASH.
I still don't want to believe that dance scene actually happened (and I'm not even a resident evil fan).
I just wanna know the thought process behind that scene. Who came up with that idea and how? I'm pretty sure anyone that hasn't developed scarlet rot in their brains could've seen that it was a bad idea from the get-go but SOMEHOW, it made sense for them to put it in. Not even RE5's boulder punching scene was that dumb and at least we got some good memes out of that!

I think it's supposed to be cringe for the reveal shock. You're expecting a psychopath and then find out she's a puppet. It dispels any doubt of being a trick and shows how far Billie has fallen that she's done all this herself. It's one of the few scenes that did make sense.

I'm quite disappointed with Lance.
He was literally the only thing about Netflix's RE that I actually liked. He commanded each scene and he was genuinely fun to watch, it didn't matter that the script writer bastardized Wesker. It made me want to see him in other roles.
Then he drops this Haters speech and it immediately killed that interest.
I know right? I think the schpeal said it all "Our fearless leader" and "People that knew what we were doing" it communist speak. It wasn't about entertaining people, it was about pushing the message and the message was so soaked into the show it was top down and bottom up. Actors, crew, writers, producers.. all of it was just about pushing super woke agenda rather than being a thrilling RE show.

I just remember there was a point where I realized they just kept putting out shows with a high-production value, but no substance. Most of the time the characters were either unlikable, or just insufferably stupid for no reason.

If you want decent shows on Netflix, you’ll have to look at foreign material from India and South Korea.
I’m not a big fan of Indian content as it’s a little too goofy with special effects for me. The content coming out South Korea is pretty solid though. Some really great movies and shows.

Our problem is that we are too smart and we want well written, engaging, thoughtful shows that we can look forward to. We have to remember that most people are not too bright and these massive companies cater to the masses. Hopefully our minority is growing but for now it's still that, a minority of market share. They'll throw us a bone every now and again at least. Same thing with Marvel, they put a good amount of effort into the production value of their money makers, but then they'll push their message on the films that they make for themselves instead of the fans.

It's sad how Lance Riddick apparently missed the memo that even people who hated the show thought that his talent was being wasted on it.
I don’t understand how they failed this hard. The bar for Resident Evil movies is so. freaking. low. Literally all you have to do is make a character surviving a zombie virus. Throw some “Umbrella”s and “T-Virus”-es in there, add a rocket launcher in the finale, BOOM. Done. 6/10 show, but God knows it’d be the best live action bit we’ve gotten. (Go watch RE: Damnation if you haven’t. 8/10 movie. Leon is badass and it has good action sequences.) I can only assume there was some bet between higher ups to meet a zombie quota. “Bet you can’t make a zombie show with less than thirty zombies!” “You’re on!” type of thing. If I wanted bad acting and pointless teen drama, I’d watch Disney’s Z-O-M-B-I-E-S series (which features about 70x the amount of zombies, by the way.) I know special effects are expensive, and CGI even more so, but for fuck sake, the billboard in Japan advertising this show was the best part of this mess. I LOVE the games, and there’s such potential for more stories set in the same universe. It’s so infuriating to see such an easy ticket be squandered over and over and over again.
If I would do a resident evil show I think it would be cool to explore the R.P.D before the outbreak. Follow two detectives investigating the attacks in the arklays mountains finding connections through the city and Irons. Eventually RE0 and RE1 happens they realize how bad it is then the outbreak happens at the football game then it's just them surviving for the rest of the series.
They could basically make a season off of the first game and it would be cheap being set in a old mansion

The fact that they botched Resident Evil is absolutely mind-boggling! My favorite game in the franchise is Resident Evil 4 and the game itself knew how goofy it was and leaned into it. You had Leon Kennedy as the protagonist the last time you saw him he was a rookie cop barely making his way out of a zombie apocalypse. now he's suplexing people with parasites that can Sprout out with scythe like heads while he does cheesy quips. This franchise is the definition of "dumb fun" but they just took out the fun.

This is why Ive never understood the hate for the older movies. Yeah they were goofy and schlocky, but so were the games.
🤔 Who would have thought that removing important caracteristics from a well-known franchise that appeals to fans and delivering an inferior product made to please Twitter freaks would have such negative results.
I met a store manager in a local hobby shop, he prociamed himself as a massive resident evil fan and was overjoyed when I told him I was a huge fan myself.
He however was very disappointed when I explained that I thought the show was completely uninteresting and not for me as he tried to appeal that the storyline actually fixed a lot of his problems with the series past old RE3.
I tried to show him that the newer stuff while different didn't really break the "resident evil style" as it was a B Movie game series.
Well I guess I won't have to hear him talk about it much more. 😆

The "B movie" excuse always angers me. It's true, Resident Evil was cheesy, but that's because it was 1) a product of its time 2) coming from a very different culture (even moreso considering globalization accelerated steeply during the last 20 years) 3) terrifying to the audience of the time 4) still miles less cheesy than anything in the series. Old RE feels naive, because games were more naive. Same with Doom. RE7 and RE2 will probably feel the same in the next 20-30 years but right now they are brutal. The movies should keep up with the games, or emulate the feeling of the release era; this absurd mess does neither.

From a conceptual standpoint, I think the worst thing you can do is treat the games as nominally canon up to the point that your contained-universe series begins but then blatantly contradict it at every turn.
Raccoon City happened, but somehow the fact it was nuked was somehow a secret? Really?
A. If we're to assume the games happened, the government publicly announced the nuclear strike.
B. Apparently the cover story is a gas leak. A metropolitan-scale-annihilating gas leak...what.

It appears the female fantasy has gone from being a horrific person but still being deeply loved as portrayed in every romantic comedy since the '80s, to just being better than everybody else. Resident Evil should be such an easy and inexpensive adaptation: A survival horror movie about 5 people (Chris, Jill, Barry, Rebecca and Wesker) in a mansion with zombies. This shouldn’t be this hard to adapt!

Meanwhile, Cyberpunk Edgerunners recently released on Netflix…and not only does it PERFECTLY capture the game’s lore and unforgiving atmosphere, but it actually had good writing, diversity, well written characters, an interesting story, slapping music, and amazing animation without retreading the story that was already told. I can’t say it’s perfect since it tends to go a bit too fast, but it’s a FARCRY from whatever RE was trying to be…

It makes me very happy, the only good things about it was Lance Reddick as 'Blade Wesker' and that's it. Even Rezzie had females effected by the T-Virus(and other zombie diseases)like the males and animals; this show also felt like a wannabe of certain zombie shows/films which were popular, and it shows.
So yeah, I have high hopes for the Netflix adaption of Devil May Cry handled by Warren Ellis and Adi Schumar: the masterminds behind the critically-acclaimed Castlevania(2017), considering the fact this new tv series based on DMC is animated; and by the looks of the same men responsible for such a masterpiece getting a sequel show surrounding Richter Belmont(right after the story of Trevor Belmont concluded), y'all now it's gonna be good because the seasons follow DMC's canon from DMC3 to DMC5; in addition to Dante and Vergil's voice/motion capture actors Reuben Langdon and Dan Southworth assisting with the project by reprising their roles as the characters people recognize and love(though Johnny Yong Bosch reprising his role as Nero is left uncertain as of now until late production of season 1). Proves to the middle-aged women who made Netflix Resident Evil were wrong, and it confirms a talented actor like Lance Reddick couldn't handle the slightest amount of criticism which is pretty damn sad for a Resident Evil fangirl who's praised his performance as Wesker in such a ridiculously flawed and forgettable program.
That's about it, so yeah.

My father and brother decided to binge the show. No experience with Resi or interest in the series. Two fresh slates for Netflix to appeal to. By episode 4, they had forgotten the name of the show, and just called it 'The Bad Show'.

Why is it so difficult for many content creators to straight up admit that what they made was a failure instead of blaming the "trolls and haters"? If the show had done well and make bank then i would get it, but this is certainly not the case it just makes them look even worse.

You have a huge fucking doodoo bomb of a protect on your hands... but there's a way you can avoid any responsibility for the failure of your project. Just blame the BAD PEOPLE and it won't really affect your career. Everyone else in Hollywood is woke as fuck, right? So it will definitely work. The worst part about the show wasn't the show, it was that it killed any chance of actually getting anything good at some point, because no one is gonna touch the IP with a ten foot pole at this point after all the previous shit that got produced...

This show is the epitome of horror. I was so so so scared .... That they could ruin a franchise like this with the snap of a finger and with a dash of progressivism
Resident Evil and Silent Hill, two games that will never get a good show or movie as it seems the people who try to adapt it to screen has never played the games. Which sucks, crazy potential with both properties if someone got their hands on the IP that knew the source material and wanted to appeal to the fanbase and stick to the source material rather than manipulate it to appeal to everyone, in which case it appeals to no one. P.S: I think the movie Quarantine with Jennifer Carpenter was the closest thing to a quality Resident Evil adaptation we will get. Virus breaks out in a small restricted apartment building, infection spreading in close claustrophobic setting, mad scientist in the attic caused the outbreak, that is how Resident Evil should be adapted, when they constantly go world wide from the start it takes the Resident right out of it.
Grief from this show failing killed Lance Reddick. I knew nothing about this show. Now I know why I never heard of it.
