First saw vids of his singing around 2014 so that's 9 years ago. He was singing in a local neighbourhood karaoke in very informal settings in the Philippines - he's shirtless and just having fun. Looks like he was fading into obscurity but got his big break on AGT recently. Now, his name and popularity is surging due to the AGT platform. I'm guessing 'Bunot' is a nickname and not a french name. Roland Abante is probably his real name or maybe even Rolando Abante to hispanicize the name.
