R-Type III is Irem's redemption for Super R-Type. The game has great graphics and sound, with hard, but balanced, gameplay and lots of cool ideas. And, most importantly, the game runs very nicely on the SNES with hardly any slow-downs at all. It's one of the system's top titles.
R-type series will always be one of my favorite shooters. it's not focused on collecting medals or other gimmicks to improve score. it just cares about presenting crazy balls to the wall shooting, and I love it for that.
The 4th level in this game suffers with some serious artificial difficulty that it's impossible to react to stuff you don't know that's coming, plus that going backwards shit doesn't half flip your tactics on it's head especially with the level of difficulty the level has. Also fuck that 4th boss, the let's player makes it look like a walk in the park but when you've got half powered up force from dying all the time that boss is super difficult with all the dangerous shit going off.
lol as a kid I couldnt even beat the first level, however even back then I had an appreciation for the sophisticated scaling and mode 7 effects being used in this game, and the really cool soundtrack (which of course I only ever heard level 1!)
My favorite part... in the intro, that rotating background element. From a technical standpoint, it's mindblowing. The developers were all but taunting other games with that thing: "You remember Star Fox? Well we can do 3-D rotating polygons too! And ours have textures! ANIMATED TEXTURES! HA!"
@@iwanttocomplain This game has hardly any slowdown at all, it was optimized far better than it's predecessor (the arcade R-Types tended to slow down as well), it was also a later release than it's predecessor.
Slowdown king? WTF, the game has practically no Slowdown. I think you confused it with the 1 R-Type or are you a Genesis fanboy. By the way, the much acclaimed Thuderforce IV has much more Slowdown than this game.
the most intense cliffhanger of the entire shooting history also the morale is when you're fighting elder god, you must shoot force into its gluttonous mouth
The game may have glitched up. When you beat it the first time, it starts you over, but on Advanced mode. Then when you've completed advanced mode have you fully beaten the game.
A minor footnote to add that no one noticed,... If I remember right, I think the drops of acid of stage 2 were red and more blood-like in the "advanced mode" loop of the release that went to America. ;)
How so, this is generally considered one of the best games of the series. In my eyes Final was the weakest of the series, this one here is one of the strongest ones, and it pushed the SNES nicely. I do happen to own the entire series (other than Leo, though that did receive a port on an Irem PC compilation) in one form of another (R-Types PS1 covering 1 and 2 arcade, R-Type DX GBC, Super R-Type SNES, this one here on SNES, R-Type TG16 via Wii VC, Delta via PSN, R-Type SMS, and Final on PS2).This one's great
What's different in the second playthrough? Is it just a slight variation in the designs of the bosses that appear in the almost boss-run section in the middle of the game?
R-Type Dimensions is awesome, we can now own R-Type 1 and 2 on modern consoles. My wish is for R-Type Dimensions 2 with R-Type 3 and Leo released for PS 4 and Xbone.
@ncf209rulz which button is on ur keyboard the R-Button of the snes controller? because this is the button to select the hyper mode. =D But its better if u play snes games with a controller because u dont need really to memorize any button of the keyboard. =3 i think today cost a pc gamepad only 15 til 20 bucks. =/ but i want give u only a tip for emulator games . ;)
Practice, get better, you don't need a rewind feature as that takes the fun out of learning a tough game. The feeling of beating a hard game honestly is like no other feeling of accomplishment out there.
This game used to drive me crazy, ages gaining power then a particle touches you and your ship burns up like a tissue that's been dumped in a volcano. Crazy hahaha
how are they censored? I have the snes (PAL)& TGrfx-16 (NTSC-J) & have just bought the Super Famicom version , (have not looked at the famicom one yet cos its in the post) it would be handy to know what to look out for, thanks
oh yeah oh yeah this game takes me back when my older brothers where playing this game on the emulator. But instead of the oversea version we played the japanese version because in stage 2 inside the acid creature world the boss shoots out sperm semen the stuff that comes from mens and you see in this video but in the oversea they shoot out eyeballs instead possibly due to nintendo's 90's censorship. Because Nintendo of america sure censored alot of games on the super nes WOW. but anyway when my brother was fighting the stage 2 boss my brother tell me that the boss was shooting out baby eggs and I said weird but me and my brothers have no idea this is the actual uncensored japanese version we where playing but the ending was oddly in english in the japanese version like what I'm watching in this video but we didn't care otherwise we enjoy this game r-type 3 for the super nes and I'm surprised that r-type 3 was also ported to the game boy advance. But on the other hand this was my first r-type game on the emulated super nes and it was my childhood so thank you for uploading this video thank you YEAH.
sooooooo... im playing a real copy of r-type III the japanese version on an american SNES, as soon as i killed the final boss, i was just flying in space for infinity, is that normal? anyone wanna help me out here? i just played this game for 8 hours non-stop and i was hoping for an ending...
R-Type DX GBC, not GBA. Wish YT sometimes had an edit button. I refuse to chase down R-Type III GBA though as Irem gave these guys no source code and they had to build the game from the ground up, didn't turn out so good though.

God, the intro sound at 0:39 is soooo gooooood.
@Demetrius Dalton wtf lol
R-type series will always be one of my favorite shooters. it's not focused on collecting medals or other gimmicks to improve score. it just cares about presenting crazy balls to the wall shooting, and I love it for that.
This game is so well done! Really shows the capabilities of the SNES!
R-Type III The Third Lightning = The Ultimate R-Type for SNES ! This is fantastic ! It's a real awesome !
One of *THE* best games for the SNES.
Kudos to the programmers :)
This is one of the best R-Type games in the series, but unfortunately it is also one of the hardest. That backwards stage can go straight to hell lol
The difficulty is about as punishing as it gets.
The 4th level in this game suffers with some serious artificial difficulty that it's impossible to react to stuff you don't know that's coming, plus that going backwards shit doesn't half flip your tactics on it's head especially with the level of difficulty the level has. This game really shows off the power of the SNES!
Always loved the first stage's tune.
I love the focus and zoom out from the reactor core of the ship in the opening (the source of this power)
23:00 love how that is a remix of the boss theme from Super R-Type.
FireBomberBassist The boss theme I’m Super R-Type was itself a remix of the boss theme from the original R-Type.
Thank you for these videos! They are invaluable when I need to research a game/genre when designing my own games.

Yeah. It's a shame the game slows down all the time. The effect as 24:03 is really nice though.
@@iwanttocomplain This game has hardly any slowdown at all, it was optimized far better than it's predecessor (the arcade R-Types tended to slow down as well), it was also a later release than it's predecessor.
*R-9O Ragnarok is one of my favourite ships in the R-TYPE Mythos!*
I love the rotation effects!
Amazing gameplay...I never see this! Wonderful job. Congratulations!
This game literally flies in circles around its predecessors. And the boss at 24:00 onwards is a major trip down memory lane :)
Earlier games pulled off similar things, Super Castlevania IV had some segments featuring rotating screens and mode 7.
Now that is what you call impeccable game play!!
The flickering and slowdown king , but a beautiful game. I like the biomechanchal Irem style.
There is not that much slowdowns in this game.
What are you talking about?
Slowdown king? WTF, the game has practically no Slowdown. I think you confused it with the 1 R-Type or are you a Genesis fanboy. By the way, the much acclaimed Thuderforce IV has much more Slowdown than this game.
0:41 I love this track that plays during stage 1
One of the hardest games I've ever played. I sold it a few years ago. One hit and back to a checkpoint? Cheap. Beautiful 16-bit graphics, though.
Loved this game. Some skilled playing there, thanks for the share.
I remember having to play through this game twice to see the real ending. :D Nice play. I too always use the 3rd drone type.
That was a cool as fuck final boss.
Final boss NEVER wants you to run away easily!
3:20 always, and I mean ALWAYS, gets you when you flyin all at the right of the screen
the most intense cliffhanger of the entire shooting history
also the morale is when you're fighting elder god, you must shoot force into its gluttonous mouth

relembrar o passado é sempre bom ,,
i agree one of the best for snes games i played this to the finish and boy what a game. Glad i have my second favorite consoles of all times!!!
31:22 Is... Is that thing holding up a hole in the Spacetime continuum? Damn.
great your speed run and great game !
Really well played. Skills!
R-Type 3 on the Speccy? Never new that. The original was a great port however.

I love r-type.this was the best one.the music is freakin badass!!!! I wish they wouldve made a next gen r'type.piss poor developers theses days
level four looks like a pain to remember.
1:50 -
"Look out!! Behind you"
Gainz: "What are you talk abo--?!"
*BUMP!*
"Baka..... should have checked the radar while fighting."
Wow, i always thniked that there was only Super R-type for SNES, never heard about that game
A hard and disadvantageous operation, with no extra room for the weapons offensive.
I still think the original is the best version. I wish the original would be remade in HD for PC!
It has been remade in 3D...
Steven Stagg But on the PC? I just picked up a Xbox 360 for $30.00 and bought R-Type Dimension on Xbox arcade but would prefer it on the PC.
look on steam
More old school Japanese developers need to discover Steam!
If you want to play this game via emulation, play the Japanese version. R-Type III never had a digital rerelease.
2nd best r-type ever, after the amazing r-type delta on playstation!
nice play
awesome! This is one of perfect play!
What's different in the second playthrough? Is it just a slight variation in the designs of the bosses that appear in the almost boss-run section in the middle of the game?
AMAZING GAMEPLAY!!!!
Dam dude, you make it look easy!
My bad. You actually payed through it twice. Nice. :D
i love you long plays.net
thank
R-Type Dimensions is awesome, we can now own R-Type 1 and 2 on modern consoles. My wish is for R-Type Dimensions 2 with R-Type 3 and Leo released for PS 4 and Xbone.
R-Type Leo is awesome.

thanks for reminding me
I'm honestly speechless. This is NOT an easy game
As always R0type features dusgusting enemies that mixing machinery and living things? embryos, insects, internal organs, flesh and so on.
We desperately need this game on the switch SNES app just for the rewind feature. I beat this game on the Wii VC and it was haaaaaaaaaaard.
Practice, get better, you don't need a rewind feature as that takes the fun out of learning a tough game. The feeling of beating a hard game honestly is like no other feeling of accomplishment out there.
I totally agree with that!!!
Hehe. Only now I got that sound efect of the first ships being destroyed was used on Legendary wings. :)
I will also try to create a music video for this game.
This game used to drive me crazy, ages gaining power then a particle touches you and your ship burns up like a tissue that's been dumped in a volcano. Crazy hahaha
@Snyperwolf91 lol yeah i forget how to use hyper on the keyboard?
how are they censored? I have the snes (PAL)& TGrfx-16 (NTSC-J) & have just bought the Super Famicom version , (have not looked at the famicom one yet cos its in the post) it would be handy to know what to look out for, thanks
擬態だとかブラックホールだとかアイデアの豊富さに脱帽するね。
There's also R-Type 2, and Leo.
hard and beautiful, best shoot em up on snes.
God, this game is so expensive now. The Retrobit Retrocade has the first 3 R-Types. It is a much cheaper way to get it.
I just beat this game tonight!
oh yeah oh yeah this game takes me back when my older brothers where playing this game on the emulator. But instead of the oversea version we played the japanese version because in stage 2 inside the acid creature world the boss shoots out sperm semen the stuff that comes from mens and you see in this video but in the oversea they shoot out eyeballs instead possibly due to nintendo's 90's censorship. That bad ass bfm
how did you play? i have the japan version but i can not play on pal version. which adapter do i need? the two that i have do not work. :(
I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!
As someone who beat advance mode (over a few hours) I can safely confirm that.
Amazing super nintendo game
@madballneek Im designing my own games to, im currently working on a title that were trying to hit the wii ware, PSN, and xbox live download stores!
YOU ARE SUPER PLAYER!
So the Japanese version is in English? Thats cool
Well, I guess that is true ^^
The better SNES R-Type game, none of the issues that plagued Super R-Type rear their ugly heads here.
I could never figure out how to get past the backwards wall in stage two, silly me...
Cant diss R Type 3! It has its problems but its a solid horizontal shooter!
this was called normal back in the day.
How many of us were WTF! the first time when Level 4 went in reverse on us?
Me mostly.
Wow. I missed out. arcade shooters like this don't need to be bullet hells to be challenging.
I had this game when I was like 6, don't think I ever got to the first boss
mal passava da terceira fase desse jogo dificil dificil extremamente dificil
Verdade!!! Jogo desde pequena e nunca consegui zerar
sooooooo... im playing a real copy of r-type III the japanese version on an american SNES, as soon as i killed the final boss, i was just flying in space for infinity, is that normal? anyone wanna help me out here? i just played this game for 8 hours non-stop and i was hoping for an ending...
@cubex55 you cant change the difficulty, and im 90% percent sure whoever owned the game before me had beat it
R-Type DX GBC, not GBA. Wish YT sometimes had an edit button. I refuse to chase down R-Type III GBA though as Irem gave these guys no source code and they had to build the game from the ground up, didn't turn out so good though.
The Final Bass ate one of your Balls :o
9:10 I dont know but.... well I think what they used to make thats "things"
i lkie the cyclone force in this game better than the one in final
its all still in english, even the menus. everything.
This game is so BAD ASS!!!
wow...and i thought SWIV was busy!! =)
I play only the american version I didn't know until later in life that there r 2 versions to every game that comes out
@ncf209rulz its for speed . do u have more questions about this game? =)
This game looks cool as I don't know what....
Nice graphics but where are the enemies?
My playing Rtype is full of enemies.
Esse jogo é muito louco , bom demais
This is the game Super R-Type should have been.
