  • Hi Friends! This week we experience some Maine summer festivals. Mainers don't need much excuse to celebrate, especially in the summer. We got to experience 2 in the same weekend right in Fort Kent. On Friday we went to the Annual Ploye Festival, hosted by Bouchard Family Farm. Ployes are a buckwheat pancake/flatbread that you can eat sweet or savory and are a great bread substitute. I love these things and my favorite was to eat them is to dip them in my chicken stew. Click on the link below and find out more about this delicious food and the family who has created a simple to use mix.

The next day we were able to experience the Moose Lottery for the first time. Hunting is a way of life in Maine. Not only is it a sport that so many enjoy, but your reward is filling your freezer full of meat to feed your family.
Because moose are protected in the State of Maine, they only gave out about 4000 permits for the year, but over 72,000 people applied for the permit! The State of Maine gives these out by holding a lottery every year. The event we went to was to read off the names of this years lucky winners. This event travels to different towns every year to allow different towns to host the event. The Town of Fort Kent did an amazing job creating an event that brought so many people together. There were food trucks with unique offerings, activities for the kids, vendors and of course, the reading of the names. I'm so thankful I was able to experience this.

Festival footage reminds me of how simple life in Northern Maine can be. Appreciation for the little things. ❤. We used to do foil packets on the fire but we did it with hamburger patties. This looked sooo delicious!

We use to shut down our court where we lived in Buxton and would have summer cookouts for the whole community, great times. I’ve never heard of Ployes 🤷🏼‍♂️ 72k with 4K given 😮 wow that’s now many for 🫎 moose.
I went to Wendy’s yesterday at work, 15 bucks for a burger, fry and soda 🤦🏼 so yeah it’s expensive. I want to get into open fire cooking when we go. Just some good cast iron pans are needed, maybe a Dutch oven. OLD BAY FOR THE WIN 😊 ok nice cooking job 👍🏼I thought you had enough seasoning, I’m surprised. Real lemon is a good thing.
