Devastated, I've just read the sad news of his passing, as a Liverpool fan, I'm just devastated. May I offer my sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. Rest in peace......YNWA..... God Bless you. XX
From Lyon and a huge Lyon's fans........It's so emotional to read your respect for our " gege " . Thanx to all , we miss him a lot here in France, and of course in Lyon . Thanx for your respect. Qu'il repose en paix Merci #MONSIEURHOUILLER #LYON #LIVERPOOL #MISTERHOUILLER
Yep, Danny Murphy probably more than anyone was close to GH. He'd literally have been playing in lower divisions his whole career but Houllier kept pushing him to bring out an imaginary star in him. 3 winners at Old Trafford later...
RIP Gerard Houllier. As a manager he was one of the few who you could see really loved his club more than just a job. My condolences to his family and to all the Liverpool supporters. From a Manchester City fan.
Dont want to pinch any of his greatness at Liverpool but as a Villa fan all I can say he was really nice guy, tragic with his illness, it was Villa's loss back then. Respect to him and all who knew him, may he rest in peace. RIP Gerrard.
Cried when I heard the news today. I’ll never ever forget the night he returned to Anfield against Roma. We were all so happy to see him back at Anfield. I met him at a restaurant in Liverpool on my 21st birthday and Gérard took the time to come and wish me a happy birthday and gave me a hug. He was a truly wonderful gentleman, so humble and kind. I’ll never ever forget him and he will never walk alone up there in heaven. Never forgotten. x
I am a West Ham fan and have no connection to Liverpool or Houillier but this is sad news. I always got the impression that he was a dignified man, a gentleman and was old-school in terms of looking after his players and their families (John Lyall at West Ham was similar to that, apparently). Rest in peace.
I'm a manc, and I can honestly say what a lovely bloke, and a good manager won trophies in 2 top league's I'm 47 years old and maybe it's making me feel vulnerable myself. I miss these top managers arsène fergie, hansen on MOTD. I love the premier league 👌👌 god bless gerard 🙏
I’m truly blessed to have experienced those years when he was in charge. One of our greatest managers! The team played for him even when he wasn’t in the dugout. RIP
One of the nicest guys I've seen in management. Growing up I always liked him when he was on the telly. Much love to his memory, and his family, from Manchester, from a United fan. Rest in peace Gerard Houllier.
Roy Evans was the first manager I can remember as a kid, but Houllier came in when I was 10 and was remotely a big part of my life throughout my teenage years. When he first came in, he signed all these random players, like Sami Hyypia, Did Hamann, Stephane Henchoz, Vlad Smicer, and started playing the kids regularly (Owen, Gerrard and Carragher), and I was thinking "what the hell is this random French guy doing to our club?!?!?!" Turned out it was a masterstroke. Liverpool were out of the European picture for a good 15 years before he came in and beat Roma & Barca on the way to winning the UEFA Cup, which had a much higher prestige back then than it does now. Of the 14 players who started or came on in the CL final 2005, 10 were his signings, with another two (Gerrard and Carra) significantly developed by him. I believe the success Houllier brought laid the foundations for Rafa to take us a little bit further. The man is a legend in my eyes, and France 1998-2000 successes owed a lot to Houllier's ground-breaking youth programmes in the early 90s. Who let the Reds out? WHO WHO Houllier!!!! YNWA
Got back from work to discover this..Absolutely broken.. I think of Houllier and i think of a man who restored the pride and passion back into our club.. A man who revolutionized the club and brought it up the modern age.. A man who gave Stevie G the armband at 23 yrs of age (inspired appointment btw) .. A man who took us back to the top table in European football.. We can never quantify what you did for us but just know we will be forever grateful..May God keep you... YNWA
RIP Gerard Houllier. He modernised Liverpool & made me fall in love with this special football club. I will forever remember the year 2001 where LFC won 5 trophies. He is a legendary manager in Liverpool's history in my eyes. His legacy will never be forgotten. 😥
Now and then a manger will com along touch ur heart he was one of them RIP beautiful soul RIP gerrard mett him once at Anfield Sympathy to family rest in peace
Nice words from Danny and the other lads he helped get through into the liverpool team. Its a sad day but I'm not going to be sad. I'll be grateful for what he helped us win. Even when we had to beat better teams than us in the cup competitions. A liverpool legend for history Gerard Thanks for the memories. Hope your at peace. I lost my father in May and it's not easy. But I just have to think of the good times. YNWA Gerard

A true gent Houllier was. He started a new era for Liverpool away from the boot-room. Winning them trophies and getting LFC back to challenge Europes elite, he laid the foundation that helped benitez win the champions league and im so glad he witnessed Liverpool finally winning the premier league this year which i know would have made him very happy. RIP Sir.
RIP Gerard Houllier. We remember you with very very fond memories. 2003 was amazing. 5 🏆 trophies and honours. Condolences to all your friends, family and your Liverpool family. 🙏
