- Got to borrow a Mesa Boogie Mark II-B from a friend that plays amazing blues guitar. I was blown away of how good this amp handled metal so i had to make a video about it! :) John Petrucci used the mark II-C i belive in Dream Theater when they started and that is the next version with the 5band eq.
Ive got an 81' IIB. Stock it idled at something like 12 or 15mah if I remember😂 so a resistor or 2 and a pot was needed. Funny how the low end and gain tightened up once it was biased properly. Also, a few cathodes changed from 22 to 4.7uf helped a lot. And since mine has no graphic a Furman PQ4 in the loop did the trick. It's actually a very hi gain amp

Those amps are very killer bro. My buddy has a mark 5 that slays. Lamb of God uses I believe Mark 4 series. Mesa Boogie are excellent and is why I love the Mercuriall Reaxis. Awesome video bro. Sounds great.

I love those amps I have a 1982 Mark 2 B but mine is Walnut with a wicker grill I just installed some JJ Tesla tubes and I took the stock EV speaker out and I installed a Eminence legend M12 it sounds awesome I need to break in this new speaker I only paid $750 bucks for it used I bought it on Craigslist a few years ago mine is a black stripe thanks for the cool video those amps are built like a tank they love pedals that's for sure.

Nice demo of this mark2B. I have a 79 mark 2a with en option and it’s an awesome amp. I have a mark4 and studio and quad preamps but the 2a his so much more character

Two things I still need, one of Ola's Solar guitars and a Mesa Boogie amp. I can see myself affording a Solar soon, not so sure about ever affording a Mesa....
There are Mesa amps going for the same price as Solar guitars, so yeah... 🤷♂️

Well there were a 5-bands on IIb's. Yours just doesn't have it (which isn't necessary a bad thing). Killer amp nevertheless, but all the marks from '80s have this saturated hi-gain thing going.

The gain on mine stopped being crunchy. /: it’s just another clean channel.. if anyone has any thoughts on that let me know (; Mine came off of Lou Reeds set from the 90s has his name stenciled on the back

I'm really curious about the various revisions of the Mark II. I know the C+ gets a lot of acclaim because of Dream Theater and Metallica, but I have not heard many clips of the various revisions or even original mark I. Hell these other versions especially without the graphic EQ can be practically stolen at how low the prices are compared to the C+. Thanks for the playthrough.
Hi man! YES that is my though aswell i think the C+ is basicly this one with the added EQ ! its so cool to basicly have an amazing fender clean amp and then you pull the lead channel and its an angry beast :D
@@ReXIX2 The '+' refers to the amps circuitry not the addition of an eq. Think of the 'plus' meaning 'more'
Cornelius, concerning samples of the Mesa Mark I, Weezer’s Blue Album was recorded with a Mark 1 amp through a green-back loaded oversized Marshall cabinet, most likely humbuckers doubled with P90s. That album has some thick tones. Santana also used a Mark 1 throughout the 70s, but I’m not as familiar with him. Apparently the IIb is closer to a mark 1 than a C, or so is the consensus of threads I have read.

Found one without reverb. Plugged where the dial would be.
Was it removed at one point or were there some made without it.
It was built without the reverb.
This was an option the customer had when ordering.
These also came with 5 band EQ also, which is the best of all.
I have one withe the verb, no EQ, great amp but tricky to dial in.

Yeah but the cab also do alot for the sound =) i think in mikko its called MEGA 4x12 NEW , they have one thats called Traditional aswell and its an older version. No prob man! :)

@@ReXIX2 that you're probably right, though I'm no expert.
No, all of the early Boogies had options. You could get eq or not, 60 or 100 watts, reverb or not and your choice of speakers. Plus the cabinets came in different woods and tolex colors. You had to order these direct from Boogie back in the day. You couldn’t just waltz into guitar center and grab one.

The Mark II c is actually the holy grail of amps and not the mark II b.I own one.
