Hey people you better listen to Ron DeSantis. He wants to make the rest of the nation just like Florida. Are you ready for 100 to 200 per cent increase in insurance premiums.

If they put a device on your car they will find an excuse to raise your rates even further !!!

Thats right! A friend of mine got one of those GPS devices to apparently lower his rates. We told him not to do it. He was spending more time than usual over his girlfriend's house overnight due to her mother having a stroke and he wanted to help his GF take care of her. His insurance company the next month sent him a nastygram about insurance fraud and that they were not renewing his policy due to false statements about his garaging address. Letter said they may also refer the case to the attorney general. He called them and told them he has not moved and was just spending more time over there due to his GF's mother's illness. They asked for proof he still resided at his garaging address. He sent it in and they sent him another nastygram stating thank you for submitting and that they were satisfied but they were still not renewing due to the vehicle sharing several areas that have different ratings for underwriting and that they were unable to determine how to renew the policy due to the car being parked in different places overnight all the time. How about that??

Having driven there many times, it's easy to see why. South Florida is more akin to rally racing than normal driving. No one obeys any meaningful driving laws.

Prior to 1991,auto insurance WAS NOT COMPULSORY in Florida or most other states!! The larger states:Massachusetts,Connecticut,New York,New Jersey,Georgia,Illinois,Michigan,Arizona,New Mexico were compulsory prior to 1990! States like in the Dixie area started becoming compulsory after 1990,along with California and Alaska and Hawaii and all your midwestern and western states and New England(Except for New Hampshire). The only 2 states left that are not compulsory are New Hampshire and Virginia.

Talk about pinning you down with no options! With such costs on the rise so fast in Florida, that leaves you wondering if paying those prices to reside in the sunshine state is worth it anymore. Its a toss up for some but I seem to hear it mostly from the younger generation that cost of living is expensive and some are either moving back out of state or looking into options to relocate out of state. A buddy opted to buy in ATL because its more affordable while still working in Fla in case its gets worse, he will have a backup plan to relocate. I think some are waking up to reality that this is not sustainable and are looking into other options fast.

My friend has a $700 car with 10/20 bod and 25 prop. Policy has PIP (required) and no uninsured/underinsured or any other coverages and his 6 month premium is more than his car is worth and his driving record is clean with no accidents or lapse of insurance.

The plug-in device is horrific, beeping inappropriately, such as I coasted as the school bus was ahead with the lights flashing and touching my brakes when I got close, beep. Stuck and rocking the vehicle in the snow, beep beep beep. Traffic stick behind me on the highway pulling into the business, slow down slowly or beep beep beep. Every time you turn your car on it's a trip even if all you did was listen to the radio in the driveway. Adjusting your driving habits to prevent the beeps and blocking traffic to do it is stressful. In the end they said I'm going to save 2% or $0.00. And the rate has gone up to $100 a month what's the maximum deductibles in minimals all applied. Forget the car and take the bus and bicycle.

That safe driver course is a joke, it only takes a few dollars off. You have to redo it every 3 years and it take several hours to complete the course. The course is not free either.
I had to lower my coverage. Not happy about that. Meaning more drivers will have too low of coverage, I bet.

    Simple solution.
Sell both cars. Put the money in Dividend stocks.
Then when you need a ride (Hardly ever drive.) Call an uber.
If you need to take a trip then rent a car using a credit card that pays the insurance for the rental.
    Save thousands each year!-
