I am yet to confirm this theory, but I think you can actually bring the crucifix into the backdoor sub-floor. On my recent playthrough, I made it from the backdoor to the end with the big potion bottle you get for 100 gold after beating the subfloor. I wanted to insert the potion into the rift to preserve it (as it was the only item I had at that moment), but instead of staying in the rift, the item disappeared and created a smaller orangle-yellow glowing rift. I think this allows you to bring a normal run item into the subfloor on your next run, which could include the crucifix. Now the question is will it work?
