They can't breathe when frozen. Any oxygen-reliant creature will eventually die when frozen because 1) Their lungs will most likely be frozen and unable to operate; and 2) air can't move through solid ice.

I love the Ice Age franchise. It’s incredible. I don’t know why people are so upset with the sequels. They really aren’t that bad. Except Ice Age adventures of Buck Wild. That was terrible and I don’t consider it canon. Ice Age Contimental Driff on the other hand, now that is a sequel done right.

I think the frozen animals aren’t dead, because the Deinosuchus Cretaceous and the Dunkleosteus Maelstrom were frozen, but still lived when the ice was melting in ICE AGE 2.
