i really liked the format of this video, personally i'm not knowledgeable about melee but you explained everything clearly and concise and it was really interesting to hear your criticism of your own gameplay!! irl tournaments would be super fun to watch, can't wait !!
Hey! I came here from Kadence posting your vid on twitter (lucky lol) Just wanted to say first and foremost that I LOVE your style of editing. The way it clashes with your chill attitude is something that I love :) I'd also like to just drop in and give some advice on the puff MU, as you said you were looking to improve at in the future. You don't rly have to read this I just wanted to share some of my knowledge. 1. Offstage Something I noticed is that you rly like to instant jump side/up B in order to recover. While this isn't always a bad option, there are some reasons that it shouldn't be your first instinct. a. side B onstage is the 2nd easiest rest punish against falco imo b. when you instant jump up b, it gives a lot more time for the puff to react and move to your position. Think about it, it just takes more time for a puff to move offstage and then fall down to fair. Her low falling speed can sometimes get you just enough time for firebird to come out and punish the puff for trying to edgeguard you. So yeah, in general when offstage as falco, it's generally better to save your double jump if you can. That way even if you do get edgeguarded, you have it for later, plus falling below stage is usually a better option anyway. And of course at the end of the day puff does dominate falco offstage, so this is more advice on how to have a better chance at survival, not to survive 100% of the time. Good puffs will be able to react faster and edgeguard you no matter what option you choose. 2. Neutral You said a few times that your gameplan was to use a lot of back air in neutral, which while it is a good option, it's not the best that you have at your disposal. Uptilt and dair are VERY, VERY annoying for me to deal with when im fighting falco. That means that in all likelyhood they're probably the best option for you to use in neutral. Approaching dair pressure coupled with shine so ensure there's no shield grab is fantastic against puff. UpTilt is good for stuffing out bair pressure because of it's large disjoint. The spacing required to hit an uptilt spamming falco is pretty precise and low level puffs often won't be able to hit you behind uptilt walls very consistently. You can actually see this in a lot of hbox vs. ginger sets. Ginger's use of uptilt in that matchup is great. So we have - Uptilt/bair when the puff is trying to approach you (great for stuffing) - Dair/shine for approaching/pressure And ofc you're gunna want to spam laser to for kill confirms like you mentioned. It's also great for making the puffs feel like the need to approach asap, which you can read and react to with an uptilt, which can combo into dair/bair and yadayada. It's like one big flowchart. Don't always feel the need to approach puff when spamming laser. Forcing the puff to approach is often much better in the MU (and, with planking pretty much banned, puffs now have to way to not approach a laser spamming falco other than platform camping, which falco is good at countering) Well, that's all I have to say. If any of this confused you (which i get, i'm pretty bad at explaining my thoughts lol) feel free to DM me on discord. I'm in the onlynoobs server. Have a good one and gl in future tournaments :)
Thanks for taking the time to give me in-depth advice. It helps me figure out how I should be playing and thinking about the matchup. I'll keep these things in mind for future Puff sets.
