I 100% agree, after all takuto had done in the series he trully deserves mitsuki more and mitsuki really needs him to regain herself, alas handling her emotions in the end with takuto's end
Mitsuki clearly loves both Eichii and Takuto. She clearly says this herself in the manga. And, well, Takuto wins by default since he's the only one of the two who didn't die... In the last few panels of the manga, even Eichii's ghost finally admits it, and leave for heaven.

I cried at the anime but the manga was too much for my sixth grade self....I bawled, couldn't sleep, kept thinking about Takuto, Meroko, Mitsuki, cried myself to sleep..Eichi's soul detaching from Mitsuki- that broke my whole soul.

Just got done rewatching the anime after 4 years and it's even more wonderful than I remember it being. It was my first anime. And I've come again to watch it after gaining a real appreciation for anime. And I have to say I'm really lucky to have had such a great first.

I was 10 when I first bought Phantom Thief Jeanne. I watched is anime and also Full Moon. This is the best!! I really like these three
This series is so much for my heart!! Especially when Eichi died... The fact that Mitsuki worked so hard just to see Eichi again. And the fact the Eichi wasn't able to tell how much he loves Mitsuki and how Mitsuki loves him. Adding to the sadness is the songs and meanings ... it really fits that it hurts. But there is always someone who will fill up the whole in the heart with love...That is Takuto. 😍 Im just happy that Takuto and mItsuki finds their way to each other. They're great couple.

Everytime I listen to this song I feel as if i'm going back to my childhood, it's means a lot to me. An afternoon under the sun, or me alone in my class, the room I used to stay in to watch this. It's just so touching, when I rewatch the anime, this song in the ending scence really killed it.
Gosh the nostalgia. 🥺 This show got me into singing. It's to blame for me messing up my throat(not permanent) for singing incorrectly haha until I actually took classes. Now i can sing all these songs the right way~

If you haven't read the manga version, I strongly recommend it.
Some critical parts of the story are different in the manga, and I personally much prefer the manga version for its darker tone.

@@ngocv4308 Three years late, but... the anime and manga have the same overall plot but different executions. Some things weren't included in the anime, but one big thing was added and one major twist was changed.
**SPOILERS BELOW...**
Eichi: In the anime, Mitsuki believes he's still alive as he made it to America. In the manga, his plane crashed en route. the manga, like the anime, hints at the fact that he's dead but also hints at the eventual reveal that Mitsuki knows he's dead. Plane crashes and fatalities tend to be reported, after all. This changes Mitsuki's entire motivation in the manga vs. the anime; in the anime, her reasons are genuine, while in the manga, she wants to die so she can see Eichi again. We also learn that the reason Mitsuki can see Shinigami is because Eichi's ghost is possessively clinging to her. Seeing her final concert as Full Moon before the surgery, he realizes he has to let her go so she can be happy and live, and does so.
Takuto: In the manga, after it's revealed Takuto had sarcoma, we then discover that Dr. Wakaouji performed the same operation on him that he proposes for Mitsuki. As he warned Mitsuki, this damaged Takuto's throat, making him unable to sing. His mad ride on his bike was a deliberate suicide attempt.
Meroko: Meroko (and the other Shinigami) get a lot more backstory in the manga. It comes out that Meroko used to be Fuzuki's (Mitsuki's grandmother) best friend, when a lot of Bad Things happened (arranged marriages to the one the other loved, for instance), and Fuzuki and Meroko had a huge falling out over a misunderstanding. Meroko killed herself and Fuzuki never forgave herself for it. Meroko still becomes an angel in the manga and reconciles with Fuzuki afterward.
Lio Izumi: Like Meroko, we find out about his backstory (which is almost as sad as the entire rest of the manga, because of course it is), but unlike the anime, he gets a happy ending here. He and Meroko realize they love each other and their unresolved issues with their lives caused them to push each other away, so they hook up.
Jonathan the Ghostly Shinigami: Where do I even BEGIN. Dude turns out to be Sheldon, the boss of the Shinigami. And at first he wants to bust Meroko, Takuto, and Izumi all down and torment them for defying him with Mitsuki, but HIS boss, Mystere, the avatar of Death, eventually convinces him to let things be. Not nearly as likable as he was in the anime!
Mitsuki's sarcoma: This one's a bit of an oddity. In the anime, a new medical procedure is developed that would allow Mitsuki's tumor to be removed without risk to her voice. The manga never mentions anything like that, instead relying solely on the "her time spent as Full Moon prevented the tumor from growing worse" throwaway line as the justification for her surgery working.
It's worth note that the mangaka worked with the studio that did the anime, so the changes to the anime weren't entirely arbitrary toss outs by the studio, and likely the heavy backstory (and Jonathan/Sheldon reveal) was removed for pacing purposes. All in all, I prefer the anime, as it leaves Mitsuki's reasons genuine and makes the twist about Eichi's death hit that much harder, which really increases the emotional impact for me. This is probably the only anime to ever make me cry and it's one of my absolute favorites.
