Maureen and Karen Carpenter are probably the most beautiful singers that ever existed. Tears come the moment they open their mouths and render those pure voices.
This song always hurts so so good. Maureen McGovern 's voice is so clean and strong. She sings is so simply and beautifully, subtle and then she just kills it. "I'm the one to fly to". So many artists over sing songs, nothing against their talent. Christopher Reeves is so good. And so is Margo Kidder. In my opinion so underated as a actor . Anyway this song is brilliant

John Williams composed this timeless love theme for Superman (1978). Margot Kidder was originally supposed to sing like this for the film, but for all her grace, she just didn’t have the voice (which makes her more loveable in my eyes). That being said, hearing it sung like this really emphasizes how powerful this song is.
You can see what modern superhero movies are missing, that charm and magic the classic ones had,

Original billing as Superman, The Movie. That's what an event it was in Cinema. (Like, Star Trek, The Motion Picture- on or about the same year)
Also why Christopher Reeves' crippling horse riding accident hit so many so hard... We lost our Superman. I sincerely hope John Williams will forever be composing music for the Angels in Heaven. Such a gift to mankind!

Oh, how i've loved the song til now. So mesmerizing.
Then again, someday in early '80-81.. he went home and sat and started to read the books. He seemed so.. 'in his own world'..

Superman comic books. And some others.. Oh.. I love to see the drawings, every panel because i could not read til i was at the 2nd grade of elementary school. I just played all day.. 😍
From that moment, i always had a dream to fly.
When my sist & i were outside to see the plane flies, i said it again.. "I wanna fly to America to see Superman". Then my sister told me that i was dreaming. Superman was not real. And she showed me the 'Letters to Superman' section in the last page of the comic book. She read it for me.
It broke my heart. Damn her !

Whenever i miss my dad, my imagination, my childhood, i come upstairs in the still of the night, as i look up in the stars - i will always think about flying with Superman & those super heroes to save the world.

That said, the lady rendering “Can You Read My Mind?” deserves her fair share of attention too. After all, Maureen McGovern, called “The Stradivarius Voice”, made a name for herself recording movie theme songs.
In 1972, the head of 20th Century Records hired her to perform the Oscar-winning “The Morning After”, theme from the disaster film “The Poseidon Adventure”. In 1974, McGovern recorded another Oscar-Winning track, “We May Never Love Like This Again” from the catastrophe film “The Towering Inferno”, then the Oscar-nominated “Wherever Love Takes Me” from the disaster movie “Gold”. Little wonder she was nicknamed the “Disaster Theme Queen”‼️ In 1980, she even made a cameo appearance as a singing nun in the comedy-disaster “Airplane!”… a hilarious parody of Helen Reddy’s scene as a singing sister in “Airport 1975”.
“Can You Read My Mind?” was the SUPER-SONGSTRESS’ last movie theme to chart… but most definitely not the ending of her successful career‼️ 💚🎬💜

I remember randomly hearing this on a school bus radio when I was probably 10 or 11. As a huge Superman and John Williams nerd, I immediately recognized it. I just randomly thought about it and now I’m happy to know it wasn’t some fever dream, it actually happened! It’s not an obvious choice to make, turning this into a pop song, but it is such a lovely theme!

I never paid much attention to this song or movie because I was going through the best times of my life when the movie came out. Now I realised that every comments made here is true. This timeline will be permanently etched in our time and space, that one day everyone will visit in their spaceships!

Most superhero roles today are behind a mask or with special hat, long hair, beard or something. But superman, it was all about the iconic face. SO when Christopher Reeve came out of it, it just was made for him and he was of it. You can have so many Spiderman, batman or others and then you have good looking actors who play superman. But seriously, Christopher Reeve was it. Imagine if the CGI technologies today were at their disposal during Christoper Reeve's time...

I watched it in a cinema in 1979, here in Chile . I was 7 and I fell in love with this Suuperman. In the 90's I watched on cable tv other movies with Christopher Reeves and I admired him. I fell sad when I read about his accident and when he died.

They sometimes say that movie time is magic time. I say, absolutely. Christopher and Margot were beautiful together. That lovely song just amplifies the feeling.
I was also a late 70's guy listening and watching with my first wife--a special girl. I'm so sorry things for the both of them were tumultuous and heartbreaking. But, I'm glad for the few hours they were frozen in time together, that I can still picture and hear them this way. RIP my friends. Your time spent soaring is not forgotten. And, your efforts together were not made in vain.

TCM ‘s movie SUPERMAN , made me come here. I had forgotten this song. In the movie when Lois is flying with him , in her head she’s saying the lyrics. Something clicked , and I knew it was a song. Hence , here I am 😊

This 1978 movie brought some things to mind.
In 1978, I moved to Texas. And, my first wife and I were still married.
The sign on the marquis moved us to see the film. Good decision. We both liked it.
I'm now reminded of a different film I once saw.
There are two characters. The amoral one chose a life of crime. The other chose law enforcement, or maybe they became a priest. You know--opposite paths.
But, they knew each other since childhood. So, they still talked.
One asked,
"Do you ever get the feeling that maybe we're like puppets, and God is the one who pulls the strings?"
The other one said,
"If he does, he sure has a strange sense of humor".
This post is about some strange things that I've seen. And, that happen. I know I'm not the only one who feels that way.
My first wife and I divorced a long time ago. I probably never completely recovered. If you dare to love deely, it's the chance you take, and the price you pay if it doesn't work out. There's really no one to tell about it. But, that's love for you.
Christopher Reeve died in 2004 after he became paralyzed in a horse-riding incident.
Dana, the wife who stood by his side during the ordeal, died of lung cancer not attibuted to being a smoker, in 2006.
Margot Kidder died in 2018, also of tragic circumstances.
And, as for me, very recent developments now point to becoming totally bankrupt in the love department. Something very dear to me is unfairly being taken away. But, I dont call the shots on this one. The situation is out of my hands
Worth saying, there are other types besides romantic love. Now, that's slipping away, too.
Asking for strangers to pray for me seems foreign. But, with so much on the line, it doesnt seem as crazy to me these days.
Who know. Maybe something 'crazy' will help.
By the way, no, I can't claim innocence in all my problems. I see may mistakes. But, they don't merit the response I've been given.

As romantically sappy as this song is, I know what it's like to hold hands with a god and what it feels like to not be able to be with him. It's killing me.
