  • As described if using sub at low volume it will work fine all night adding a bit of rumble to your music, but if you push it hard the driver sounds like it is bottoming out, even though the limiter light is still showing green. The driver is the same as in the Pro 8, but that is powered by a 240 watt amplifier, while the Sub 1 is powered by a 480 watt amplifier. It can really kick out the bass if needed but it starts to get really hot on the back and the driver starts to smell like it's melting. I have researched into this and apparently this can be normal for some subs as the glue holding the speaker together starts to burn off!! But it isn't very reassuring! I had the little Behringer Sub 1200d before this and I must say I was impressed with it's size, output, value and never let me down for 4 years + no smell even when working hard. Then I purchased this and was immediately blown away by the volume and bass, but
those levels cannot be maintained all night. I will try to do an update on the speaker to see if it irons out any volume level issues, I will let you know if I succeed!

Did you get it sorted eventually or have you just learnt to live with the issue ?

Buy the Bose Sub 2. It has far less issues!

I have the same problem with sub 2, it makes an unpleasant noise before the limiter.
I returned it immediately, unacceptable for this price.

Update, do the update which will iron out most of the problems and use the sub at a lower gain 10 - 11 o clock and it will be fine.

You need to do the update, it lowers the volume input, adjust the clip light indicator so it shows it clipping earlier and changes the overall output. Works a lot better afterwards, more user friendly power, if it starts to smell hot then it is basically being driven too hard.
