  • Step-by-step instructions for how to make a Copenhagen solar cooker. This is a neat solar cooker where the cooking pot stays flat on the ground and the flexible reflectors (or panels) are adjusted around it. I make it using poster board, cardboard, aluminum foil and a shoelace. At the end I show it solar cooking a hard boiled egg.

    Made one of these for our science club kids. I was amazed at how effective was. I used a mylar wrapping paper and spray glue to get the fewest wrinkles possible. We were able to get temps high enough to purify water with no problems in a relatively short amount of time. Thanks for the great directions.

    Yeah, that's why I like watching how-to vids (like yours!). You can always learn something new. And my electricity bill is half that of anyone else in my eight-apartment building. So you're right! :)

    There's so much stupid crap on youtube being put forth by people just to see themselves doing it. This, however, was great. Simple design, explained well and clearly, and it looks like it would work as well as more complicated solar ovens. I'm building it in the hope it will handle rice and beans. If so, I may try one with aluminum flashing and a wood base to make it rain-proof. Thanks for your work.

    I liked how you put the black cooking container inside another clear container to keep it hotter, or insulated which is more efficient.

    I don't know why it's called the "Copenhagen solar cooker" when it was invented by woman from the USA, but as a Dane, I guess I should be happy that Copenhagen is aligned with cool stuff like this.

    Yeah, it makes a huge difference. If you check out my Solar Cooking in Winter with Modified CooKit video you'll see that makes it possible to cook even in subfreezing temperatures.

    I have been looking at the solotube lighting systems and was wondering if this could not be used to collect the light and focus it through fresnel lens cut round to fit the tube in such a way to be raised & lowered ( like an old fasion telescope )to obtain desired focal point... The design of the solotube lens would eliminate changing angles to track the sun.

    Thanks. I use auto shades too, sometimes called sunshades. Check out my "How-to for car sunshade solar cooker windshield" video. I just added a link to it in the description below this video, or you can find it on my channel page. I picked up a mylar bag long ago, but haven't made use of it yet. Maybe I should. Thanks for the tips.

    Just looked up solatube, interesting technology. For a period of time during the day you'd gather more light for it but at other times you'd actually be blocking the sun. Unless somehow the whole reflector system follows the sun as whole or you mechanically manipulate the reflectors as I do in my companion video, Copenhagen Solar Cooker Assembly and Setup. It might be simpler to use a few heliostats further away on the roof instead.

    Awesome video. I am going to make one. Where to get a black pot that can be used in there. I want to use a non-toxic non-plastic pot. Thanks in advance.

      I bought mine from Walmart many years ago. I had to saw the handle off so that it would fit in the pyrex containers.

    What is the temperature that produces the Copenhagen Solar Cooker?100 degrees Celcius?

    great video, does this cooker boil water with the aluminum foil as reflectiors?

    • @RimstarOrg
      @RimstarOrg  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Check out my follow-up video th-cam.com/video/H5_z4-ocLUs/w-d-xo.html. I didn't measure the temperature inside the cooking pot, but given that the temperature outside is well over the boiling point of water, I'd guess the water inside got to boiling.

      Cool i hace some refkectors that are nore reflective then aluminun foil. This is probable the easyest cooker ive seen does take a bit of tuwcking but simple cheap works well and its portable. Thank you your the only one ive seen doing this cooker.

      I don't see any problem with using plain cardboard box, though if it's corrugated cardboard, it may be hard to shape.

    Hey, is poster board the same thing as bristol board?

    • @RimstarOrg
      @RimstarOrg  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. From wikipedia's description of Bristol board, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_board, I'd say they're not the same thing. I've never seen the Bristol board that wikipedia is describing and it doesn't sound like what I used in this video. What I used sounds more like this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_board.

      I don't have it anymore to check. I did have it for a long time and it still held the aluminum to the paper.
      Google translation:
      Não tenho mais para verificar. Eu o tive por um longo tempo e ainda mantinha o alumínio no papel.
