I just ordered 2. I do summer concert tours and this is what my customers want. They want me to buzz the crowd so the crowd will be seen on the huge stage screens! I'm sold!
Great product. Just ordered two off Amazon. Another option is to make one 12 inches long. This would allow connecting to a 6-10 inch monitor mounted on top of the controller without having several feet of coiled up cable dangling underneath.
Thanks for your hard work on this Rick. Just ordered on on Amazon. Will this will work with my 7.85 CrystaSky Ultra via HDMI? Or a MacBook Pro via HDMI or USB-C?
I have ordered mine I will also test with the goggles 3 with a neo and the avata 2 and post my results here when mine arrives. If it works that will be awesome.
Impressive, @drone valley! Especially the price, I expected an order of magnitude more expensive. The last bit I hope for, there will be a way to order this from Europe without paying a 100% markup in duties and shipping
Very cool. I love that you stuck with it and figured it out. The strain relief in particular... I just wish there was a direct HDMI out option in the 'RC-N3 + iPad Mini 6' scenario. Airplay to an AppleTV doesn't seem to work for non-streaming video content either...unless I've just got something wrong.
I once ordered such a cable on ebay for 10 euros for my phone. Thought I'd test if it works. And if you plug it in right away and start the controller it only charges but if you wait until it has started up completely it works great watching movies and photos no problem drone not tested yet but will probably work too. I'm not going to mention the link to the cable here.
Drone Valley, this is an excellent job from your team. Kindly also look into a solution that enables the RC-2 to output clean HDMI (without the controller On-Screen Display) via the USB C port. Thank you once again.
This is wonderful! Please make this shipping free to the Philippines. Currently Amazon says "This item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location."
Hi, one can use an IF certified usb-c cable to connect either the RC 2 or RC Pro to Epson BT-35e and other smart glasses. Also can connect to HDMI adapters with no issues.
That's awesome Rick, but can I use the cable with other DJI smart controllers? I think it's a great idea to have that angle on the cable, it's less stress on the cable. Thanks again for sharing Rick. 👍👍👍
Unfortunately we couldn't get the RC-1 working at all since it treats the USB-C differently and divides the functions between charging and "host" connection. Right now it works great with the RC-2, which is used with the newer Mini 4 Pro, Neo, Air 3S and Flip. I do appreciate the support
Well done! Sold! I said to myself I'd pay $30.00 for that. Probably more in Canadian dollars, but still worth it. So now that it's on the market, how long before DJI starts making and selling them? :(
Very awesome. Any idea if this could work with the DJI FPV V2 googles? Currently i use my phone as a 2nd screen but being able to hook to a larger tv would be even better.
Great concept and implementation Rick. Please let me know when your cable will allow the use of a touch screen. I find planning waypoint missions on the dinky controller screen excessively stressful! Cheers from NZ's Godzone!
I use the xreal air 2 pro with the controller. I think the usb-c is natively DisplayPort. This also works for the rm-500 smart controller and the mini2.
Thank you very much for this very informative video. I would like to ask if there is any way to hide all the letters and information that are on the monitor?
I really appreciate the post and am happy that folks are thinking through the design process, that's where we have the most fun here at the shop (besides flying). We wanted a braided cable for the design, but believe it or not that cable was a little bit heavier than a standard cable. The reason this was an issue was the torque it placed on the controllers USB-C port. Even though it was a small amount, with 2 meters of cables hanging it added up quickly and we were worried about damaging the controller. We really labored over every detail and even added extra shielding on the video wires internally to minimize signal loss and cross-talk in case you wanted to extend it later. It seemed like a really simple project that turned out to be more complicated than we expected. I'm glad that we stuck with it.
Great idea! I love it! I just placed an order for the cable. Thank you! Q: Do you know how to switch the cameras on the Air 3 when using the goggles 3? the last update, we can once again use the Zoom fuction on the wideangle camera but are not able to switch cameras to the 70mm?
You can not charge the remote while flying. This is where the RC Pro remains supreme. You can output a clean feed on the RC Pro. If you bump this cable, you must restart the controller.
Actually you can charge the RC-2 while flying but you can't use our cable and charge at the same time since the port is not bi-directional. As for losing connection, that's on DJI since the only time the controller OS "handshakes" is during boot. Most devices have a persistent ping on the USB-c looking for an inbound or outbound connection, which would eliminate the issue. This connection is pretty secure because of the custom connector we designed so you'd really have to yank on the cable to unseat it.
Way to go and stick with the problem! I have a pair Viture XR Pro glasses that work great with the RC2. They must have additional circuitry to mange the display out of the RC2 which I think is DP over USB-C. I'm going to order one of your cables, I can think of lot of uses especially when others are around and want to see. Does the cable upscale to 4K, and would a standard 1080P monitor be able to show the display?
No, unfortunately the way that first generation controller is built it doesn't handshake the same way over USB-C for the video feed. We're still trying to find a solution but for now it's only compatible with the newer RC-2 controller.
Sorry if I missed this, are there electronics in the HDMI end of the cable? A miniature hdmi card or? Also, is there a cable that could work with an ipad mini? Im new to all this. THANK YOU for making this available!
Yes, there is both custom wiring and a conversion chip in the cable to make this work with the RC-2 controller. The challenge is that the RC-2 doesn't provide native video on the USB-C port like a computer would so the cable has to do that conversion. You can simply plug it into the controller and a TV and power up the controller to share the video. I hope that helps and thanks for the support!
I had a normal USB C to HDMI cable on a Dell 27” monitor work perfectly. I plugged it in while the controller was on and it just worked. Not sure about what the cable is but you don’t need this special one.
I appreciate the post and we tried close to 40 USB-C to HDMI cables that are commercially available from all the major vendors and none of them worked. The challenge is in a few missing wires in most cables as well as the video conversion chip that handshakes with the controller. Even if one of the cables we tested did work, we still had the issue with the straight USB-C plug on the end that stuck straight out from the controller and would have damaged the USB-C port over time. I appreciate the post and am glad you found a solution that works for you. We designed this one as a custom for the RC-2 controller so other folks could find one that works every time.
Rick did you get the link I sent a few weeks back on your last video about you cable progress, it was a link to the cable I have been using for months that does the same thing , maybe TH-cam blocks direct links as I never got a reply
Qui d'autre suis cette vidéo avec le doublage français ? Ceci est une belle évolution de youtube, c'est encore un peu grinche mais j'imagine déjà à quoi cela ressemblera dans 2 ou 3 années
Thanks for the post and unfortunately DJI doesn't present any video handshake at either of the USB-C connections on the original RC-1 controller so this cable kit won't work on that model of controller. We're always trying new things so stay tuned to the channel in case we figure it out.
Just ordered mine you know I was asking myself that would be even a plus for it to work with a pc/laptop and then there was the right angle and said "BONUS"
Yep, I thought about how I could use the cable for other things and the adapter makes that easy. The cable can handle 4K UHD content so feel free to move around to whatever you like that can output video through the USB-C port. Thanks for your support!
RC2 wireless to a tablet,,,I'm already doing it, solid connection, minimal latency, even between buildings, any hdmi not just RC2😉, no equipment needed on tablet, just the correct app..
Thanks for the post and our design criteria was to build a USB-C to HDMI connection so that you could use a larger monitor or TV with the controller. If folks were using a tablet, they could simply connect it to the smaller RC-N2 controller and wouldn't need the RC-2. We were aiming for a larger screen and put this cable together to accomplish that. I hope that helps explain things a little and thanks for posting.
@@Dronevalley Yes, it looks good on a big tv. My set up is more for out on the field where someone can be nearby with my tablet, to watch what i'm seeing on RC2.
@@pk-bristol I totally understand and wish that DJI would open up the Bluetooth connection in their Android build to make it it easier to connect externally. I also wish they allowed us to load other apps without the need to side-load them but I understand they're trying to keep the OS clean and nimble to run the DJI Fly app.
Unfortunately the original RC-1 isn't able to supply video through either of the USB-C connections on the controller. That's hard for us to fix since it's an internal limitation. For now the RC-2 is the one we designed this kit to work with.
Can't help wondering why you didn't design the plugin into the controller to be at a 90° angle to the left or right so the weight of the controller doesn't rest on the bend of the cord while setting on a flat surface such as your desk. Right or left the cord is free to not have an immediate bend.
We thought of that early on and honestly it would have been easier since most of the manufacturers we work with have a right angle mold that follows the cable. The challenge with that design is that the weight of the cable hanging down causes a rotational torque on the USB-C port, which will lead to loose connections over time. By hanging straight down we eliminate most of this torque. Also, the custom USB-C end was another mold we had to have made to follow the contour of the controller. This made the extension of the USB-C shorter on the cable, lowering the torque even more. I hope that helps explain things a little. Thanks for the post and your support.
@Dronevalley thanks for the detailed reply. It made me think the RC needs a molded in support for the cable to take the load off the usb connection but then that would probably not fit into their supplied carrying case. Problems, problems.
@@tapitXq9 It's funny you mention that because at one point we were designing a 3D printed bracket that attached to the controller but abandoned the idea when we decided to instead customize the USB-C connection to shorten the length. This provided a more secure mating and eliminated a lot of the shaking and lost connections.

It's the same cable but I had a hard time getting good quality images of the HDMI end of the cable so we had to use an earlier version. If you order from Amazon or the website you'll get the cable I show in the video. Thanks for the support!
This cable is only compatible with the RC-2 controller that comes with the newer drones like the Mini 4 Pro, Neo, and Air 3. We're working on a few others but unfortunately every Smart Controller that DJI makes uses a different driver for the USB-C connection.
What about if you want to set your controller down ? Now the cable is kinked the other way , you should have made it to the side like the first version cables for mini mavic how they go into the phone side ways ,,,, all that time and nobody thought of this ? Dropped the ball still ...FAIL in my opinion
Thanks for the post and I explained this in an earlier comment. You hit home on one of the hardest aspects of designing a product - it's a multilayered problem. We thought of designing the cable with a right turn along the cable and it would have been easier since most of the manufacturers we work with already had molds to accommodate this USB-C connection. The issue comes down to torque. You have to remember that most folks are standing when they're flying and that means the cable is hanging straight down. If we designed it with the right-angle along the cable there would have been a lot of rotational torque on the controllers USB-C port that would have eventually lead to a loose connection. By having it turn the way we designed it, we eliminated most of this issue. The other critical things we did was shorten the USB-C connection so the plug hugs the controller, further reducing the torque. Lastly, we include a right-angle adapter with the cable that you could use to turn the cable another 90 degrees if you want to sit it in the table. These are the kind of conversations (fights) we have around the table when working on a product like this and it's one of my favorite parts of the day. It's like solving a really hard puzzle and so satisfying. I hope that explains things and thanks for watching.
Yall aint gotta buy their upped priced brand. A simple samsung c to hdmi is about half the price akd does the job even the ealmart onn brand works just fine for 10 bucks
Thanks for the post but we tried several of the Samsung branded cables and none of them worked with the RC-2. The simple reason that most USB-C cables fail is that they are designed for a computer to monitor connection and the computer typically utilizes all of the USB-C connections and standards. DJI didn't fully implement the USB-C port on the RC-2 controller and are missing a few connections, which we had to correct in the cable. The other bigger issue is that a computer delivers video directly to the USB-C port, which is simply transported to the an HDMI monitor with a simpler cable. The RC-2 makes it more complicated and you need a "conversion" chip in the cable hood to handle that. Even more complicated is the fact that only 2 of the chips we tested could handle the task. All of this was a journey for us that led to this final product. I can assure you that a "simple" USB-C to HDMI cable will not work with the RC-2 and if you get luck with one you have, I'm a fan of using what you own. We simply offer these as a tested solution that was designed to fit the RC-2 and works great.

Wish there was an easy way to show fpv goggle footage on monitor.
It's tricky but that's our next challenge and we'll post something when we get it sorted out. Stay tuned for that. Rick
I wonder why is it not possible in RC 😡😡😡 dji mini3pro
We simply offer these as a tested solution that was designed to fit the RC-2 and works great.
is this a joke? it isn't april the first
Not sure what you were going for there but it's not a joke and the cable works really well. Thanks for the post?
Is it possible to get rc2 controller to hook up with dji avata 2 drone some how ??
Thanks glen
