I just had these pieces stolen from my car at the mall. I hit a bump, and the hood flew off. I knew this would be a problem the minute I learned that the hood was held by two latches that anyone can open. My hood got scratched.
Short answer is I don't know :) . The part I changed is the only part I know how to change. I bought a newer model of the car, and it doesn't have this problem anymore. Yet.
I've owned two Smart cars, and they are my favorite cars ever, so personally I highly recommend them. Technically you are right that someone can actually unfasten the hood pretty easily if they know how - but honestly no one really cares about Smart cars in terms of crime that I've noticed, and no one really knows how to open the hood - even the mechanics I bring the car to. So it's in the realm of possibility, but I'm personally not worried about it. This should not stop you from buying a Smart :).
@@louiskhorweiwu Thank, I did notice some of them do have a lock for the hood, maybe the one I looked at did too but it was unlocked. I'm going back to look at the car this week and probably make an offer. It's a 2016 Black Passion with only 13,750 miles priced at $10,699, I think it's a solid deal, car felt brand new.
@@jay-jx5hc I was never able to figure that out :P - because yes, to really fix things, you'd need to replace the clip that the part I put in attaches to. I eventually bought a newer smart car and sold this one :D .
Thank you! The latches were installed incorrectly in my Smart, i just change their position as in your video and now it locks the hood!
Thank you for posting this video. I was able to replace the latch on my smartcar, no more tapes!
Glad to help!
Thanks! This saved me a lot of time, hassle, and cash!
Thanks, it was helpful
can we see a full video on this ? My hood fell off on the freeway and I need to buy a new one I think I'm missing pieces

That's as much as I made of the video. There are no other parts.
I'm looking into buying a Smart car but I don't want someone to steal my hood, is this thing suppose to stop that? Need's zoomed out.

@@louiskhorweiwu how do you remove the grill to get to the lower bonnet that attaches to that attachment?
