My dream is to visit SoCal from Long Island. Have you ever been to Long Island. I would like to see more of the southern most point of California. I'm more to seeing San Diego and seeing the zoo and the beaches over there!

Oceanside is the best place I have ever lived. I commute to LA twice a month and it isn’t bad. Super quiet and clean beach town. Some homeless but it has been getting better.

No kids? San Diego. Have kids? North County.

In general, if you are 'young' n hip, San Diego is it, why? If your friends are apt dwellers, they'll be closer as well as work commutes, foodies & nitelife. No. County, is it if, you have long term appreciation plans, Wrk from Hm, thoughts of a family, newer construction, have aversion to the 'un-housed' or enjoy living 'more' laidback. Spcl mention to Oceanside for a budding single life culture. Plez don't come for me if you disagree (I've lived years in both).

I’m going to start using that line in my vids. “Please don’t come at me if you disagree”. Let’s see if it helps the comment section 😜

I’m 31, no kids, and honestly I love north county more than any other part of SD. Just depends on personality, if you like hustle and bustle or peace and quiet and views

I extended my lease in mn for 2 more months to keep looking for san Diego apartments. Seems very tough to find a spot.
Downtown is best value at $2500 for 1 one bedroom 700 sq ft assigned parking but have to deal with homelessness. Some say no biggie some say they are zombies that charge at you lol
Other option is north park but tiny apartments for $2500. Usually no assigned parking
Other option then is la mesa and random areas like la mesa, chula vista and otay ranch which seem far
Any tips greatly appreciated my girlfriend and i work remote
    Thanks a ton

If you aren’t sure, I’d try to find a 6 month lease if possible. Somewhere like North Park or Mission Valley could be a great place to start while you better understand San Diego, and figure out the areas you like and dislike. North Park without parking should be fine, depending on the exact location. I’d stay at least 1-2 blocks away from University Ave and El Cajon Blvd

@@DanPBestLifeSD thanks a ton for this. Thinking short term lease in san diego then explore then sign 6-12 month lease might be the best strategy. Feels risky moving from our perfect apartment in Minnesota selling everything to move across country but will be worth it when its -16 degrees and sunsets at 4pm and my fingers are frozen as im driving to the gym here

This is not even a competition! Hands down, San Diego!
Why? You may ask. For starters, San Diego is way more diverse and culturally rich. The atmosphere is more mellow and inviting. It is the perfect refuge for young people who want to break free from the repressive, judgmental, and stuck-up snobs who live in North County. Sorry if this offends anyone, but it's the truth.

Not even a competition? Well I’m glad this viewpoint is unbiased hahah. For a lot of people, San Diego makes sense over North County. But that doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone

I’m 31 and live in both north county and east county/central and I love north county the most out of any place, just depends on personality and personal experience, one is not better than the other

As someone who moved from North County to San Diego, this is the reason I moved. I found that North County is a pretty "homogenous" area void of much diversity ever since the Mayors of the little beach towns up there prioritized large businesses over locals and families that have been there for generations (these tend to be families of non-white descent who have been pushed out--for example, the Barrio neighborhood in Carlsbad). With the increased radicalization in the area, many folks (me included) haven't felt as safe as we did in the areas we grew up due to race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. and have left North County (we also avoid Santee and rarely visit El Cajon for obvious reasons).
Furthermore, the amount of childhood acquaintances and friends I've lost to drunk driving in North County due to a lack of public transportation, strong city planning, and fulfilling life (home ownership, career, affordable care, etc.) options in North County is depressing. In 2022, Oceanside averaged 7.55 drunk driving fatalities per 1,000 people--this number is also inflated because regions like Carlsbad, Encinitas, and Escondido don't have a real strong night life. The north county cities also haven't been designed or laid out in ways to spur community growth, rather depending on the luxury of owning a car and being close to the beach to build community instead of having dedicated third spaces throughout the cities with access to public transit to help folks who cannot afford the above luxury to build relationships. Furthermore, SANDAG and MTS have been making steady improvements on improving the transit in the area. This is purely anecdotal, so please do not take this as fact, but I've lived in Hillcrest, North Park, University Heights, Normal Heights, and City Heights and rarely drive anymore since the inclusion of the bus rapid transit (BRT) lines they've been implementing.
Overall, I feel North County is ideal if you're middle-class and fit most of the stereotypes of the area--including having the luxury of having kids, but if you cannot afford a car and identify more as lower-class, the only real option is living in San Diego where you are less car-dependent.

You forgot that we in North County have the best schools too. San Dieguito is nationally ranked with the best districts in the country.
