I really wish more was done on ambilight. Having owned ambilight before I was, genuinely, shocked at the difference it made to the experience. Having moved away from it the first thing that struck me was the almost immediate fatigue I felt watching TV, a thing that I never got utilising ambilight. I thought it was a gimmick, ended up loving it, now deeply regret moving away from it.
Oddly, it also made my now 75" TV feel smaller than the 65" ambilight....

Why can't we have a flagship TV across any brand that has:
    1) Support for all HDR formats.......Dolby Vision, Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Adv HDR Technicolor.
    2) IMAX Enhanced + Filmmaker Mode + Netflix Calibrated Mode + Calman Home (AutoCal) + ISF mode.
    2) Native Dolby Atmos decoding + DTS X passthrough eARC (decoding wud be great too) & all major audio codec support for playback.
    3) Full fat HDMI 2.1. (48 Gbps) with 120Hz 4K 4:4:4 on at least 1-2 HDMI inputs
    4) Gigabit Ethernet (It is 2021 ffs !)
    5) USB 3.0 (atleast 1)
    6) Working VRR, ALLM & 4K 120Hz Dolby Vision gaming features. Probably need onboard FreeSync/GSync
I just don't understand how FLAGSHIP models of Samsung, LG, Sony, Philips, Panasonic etc have ridiculously priced high end models that doesn't have all the above mention in ONE HIGHEND TV.
Screw 8K, screw micro/mini LED, screw rollable OLED & screw the extra $ that these 3 add to the cost of the tvs.......instead give us a good FALD 4K LED TV or 4K OLED TV (Evo) with the above mentioned features.

I'm guessing the ambilight is "supposed" to be used in conjunction with the light sensor - so when it's Bright daylight ii "might" wack it out brighter and lower in the dark. But I suspect there is also other things in play here - like some people might not have their TV up against a wall or not as close as they might so having the light be able to be brighter would work there.
Also of course some might like it really quite bright if gaming with the room lights off or on low. So I wouldn't critise them for having the option of it going really bright for specific use cases.
It would be interesting to see if turning off eArc, ALLM and other features will enable any of the TV's on the market that can't do Dolby Vision Gaming at 120hz to manage it or is it entirely down to the limitations of the TV's processor so it's simply not fast enough to do it. It wouldn't be so bad if they made it work with frame doubling so it was processing at 60hz but Feels more like 120hz.
The idea of Black Frame insertion making something go brighter is sure a novelty.
Anyway this seems like a "Nice" TV - nothing class leadingly brilliant but it's certainly very comparable to some TV's that cost more from Samsung & Sony - with only the Upscaling / motion being a bit less refined.
I'd be interested to see how it works more in depth with a variety of games if it really is a viable new alternative for a gaming TV or not (if you don't give two hoots about Dolby Vision Gaming not working as well as it might - which is hardly unusual)
Maybe Vincent might do a Gaming setting video for it and go into more detail.
Sometimes one doesn't find out the useful features for quite a while afterwards - like Samsung's pretty decent picture in picture/split screen modes that works with aps and TV channels alike or the LG "lighten dark areas" function with is a really boon for over dark videogames especially multi-player FPS games.

    • @sneakyp1484

Why would you even have Ambilight on in daylight?

    • @90lancaster
      @90lancaster 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@sneakyp1484 Not everyone has loads of windows in a room their TV might be in a dark corner or a windowless room.
Also they might just think it look pretty - being super bright would at least make it look visible in daylight.
Sure you can say it's for immersion, but it could just be because you like being artys fartly and - well some people play music on their TV so the Ambi-light can sync to that too and give you a little bit of added disco lighting,

    near-black degradation/flashing solution :
I just bought this TV and found after some trial/error that switching picture fast motion clarity to Maximum while compensating for brightness by raising oled contrast and video contrast to maximum will get rid of near-black flashing/degradation. Another way to compensate for brightness is gamma but would not touch it as it would lift the blacks as well.
Also, just don't select warm color inherently found in isf and film modes. It makes it feel like sunset already while it's noon in movies.

Why do all these high-end TVs come with processor compromises? This thing should be able to handle 4K@120Hz WITH VRR but Phillips cheaped out and didn't put a fast enough processor in it.
Like wtf? The TV costs thousands, it's a 2021 model. Why the fuck does it not FULLY SUPPORT all HDMI 2.1 features? Do we have to wait 2 more years for these TV manufacturers to dole out a TV that has a good enough processor to support everything?
And another thing, why does it take so long for the HDMI body to finalise a HDMI spec? It's been LITERALLY YEARS, from the start of products being released to 2.1 being finalised. How it should work is the spec is fully finalised THEN products release to FULLY SUPPORT ALL FEATURES. Rather than adding a feature every year and making every TV redundant until a finalised spec is reached. Like how unorganised must the HDMI body be?
The TV industry looks like a joke. TVs even flagship TVs releasing every year missing HDMI features and full support. HDMI features being added as they go rather than being finalised before TVs actually launch.
It's just a massive scam to keep you buying a new TV every year just to get 1 or 2 HDMI features that SHOULD BE ALL FINALISED IN ONE GO AND ALL TVS AFTER IT'S FINALISED THAT USE THAT HDMI VERSION SHOULD FULLY SUPPORT ALL FEATURES!
If I buy a HDMI 2.1 TV, it should FULLY SUPPORT all features under HDMI 2.1, without clauses. It's getting beyond a joke now.
