There is a new kappa haka group that formed in Rotorua (from the Rotorua District Court) they are made up of Filipino, Indian, European, Chinese and Māori. They are hoping to make it past regionals. Go check them out
I have a question about haka and maori culture in NZ. In NZ the students learn Haka and the Maori language at school? I've seen a lot of videos on tiktok of NZ students performing Haka(and most of them were not Maori), and i started to think about how the Maori ancestral knowledge is taught and preserved in society. Can someone explain me this?? I rll wanna know more about this. Like, even if a kid or teen is black or white do they learn how to do this???
Hiya! I'm not the best at explaining so sorry in advance! Often Māori will be taught in school, but not always compulsory. Most school have a 'Kapa Haka' which is where the kids preform Māori dances (haka) and songs (Waiata)! One of the biggest reasons it's so big in NZ now is because in around 1867, Speaking Te Reo Māori was banned, so a lot of people never learned it, so it couldn't be passed down. But now we are trying to revive the language and culture, which is why most NZ schools teach Te Reo! If you have anymore questiosn feel free to ask! I'll do my best to answer 😊
This puts a smile on every Maori person's face 😂❤❤

It is amazing really and btw it is called Pukana
With such an expressive face, the girl in the lead could easily become a stage actress.
it’s their culture that’s why they use face expression
It's called a pukana😊
Is it a form of dramatic dance? Just curious, thanks@@tiareEnnion

Buzz, maori language never existed pre colonialism, so you've artificially propped up your story
@@Troyper-lu3jz nope not true, as a Kiwi myself this is not true. Stop trying to spread around false information
@BuzzEquestrian you all needed a code language around the white man. You guys had no idea about letters or anything so don't even...
