I have the 175D and have given it a few good tests to date. It has performed incredibly well. There have been two times in questionable weather conditions that the GPS has dropped out but no problem, I simply flew the drone back and landed it without GPS. I have reached the stage where I trust the drones controllability and now would only wish for a slightly better camera. This want makes me look towards the Mini SE, however I see a continuous raft of complaints with the SE and Mini 2 concerning loss of control and connectivity.
Sounds just like that nest of hornets I peed on out behind the barn a few weeks ago. Lucky my neighbor left his back door unlocked and had a full fridge of beer.
Thanks! I'm not ready for another drone yet, but this was pretty good for what it has, and the price range. Without the gimbal stabilization features it will not produce the best possible video, but then that's what video editors are for - cutting, and scrapping. Meanwhile the color was in fact pretty good! Thanks for good posts, all the time. I mainly look forward to you know as my FAA authority, but I try to watch everything you post. Take care!
Thank you for the kind words! indeed, this one is nice and small and is pretty spunky for sure. That darn stabilization though, I guess I'm getting spoiled with that _buttery_ look. I enjoy working with the FAA to try and get the ever changing rules figured out but it can be a bit depressing only doing rules, laws and regulations so flying different drones and trying out different tech reminds me to have fun too! Stay Safe and Good Flying!
Of all my drones this was the first and so far, the only one that had a fly away. Lost it in a soybean field. Found it about a week later. After a tractor ran it over that is. The HS700E and HS600 are the most reliable Holy Stone drones. Haven't been flying my Holy Stone machines lately. Been using my DJI Mini 2, Autel Evo and my Parrot Anafi. Much less concerned about loosing control of these.
Fly-aways are horrible! I had a Mavic mini fly away once and I never found it, all electronic devices can fail I guess. I'm more concerned with the sub 250g drones for this reason, always seems to be windy when I have the time to fly. Good Flying!
Keith, you’re very fair and honest as always. I’ve flown many drones from home built to most DJI models, I’m currently flying my new DJI MINI SE every day and am looking for inexpensive drones for teaching. I’ll give this one a try.
Thank you for watching and the kind words! Glad the information is useful to you, I do enjoy trying new products to see what the industry has to offer and for the price Holy Stone has been a fairly decent performer of the manufacturers I've tried so far. This did work fairly well for the price though it did have some quirks so I'd just keep it in the open and away from the trees! I just received the newest release HS710 yesterday to review which advertises some upgrades and weighs 249g, so I'm looking forward to see what they've improved, but of course the price is a bit higher too... I'm also working on a couple new manufacturers that I'm so excited to share with you guys so fingers crossed you'll see these soon! Good Flying! 🙏
I got this one about in no wind I worked well on windy days it gets pushed around so I'm sending it back I'm thinking of getting the hs710 or mini se problem is I here dji mini se has problems with android phones . So I'm not sure now what to get next really
I really haven't seen or even owned a drone that lands on the exact spot it took off from. Everyone of em seem to land about 6-7 feet east of their original take off spot. The only drones I have remotely seen that can actually hit the mark or land fairly close are the DJI models?
Exo Blackhawk 2 (Hubsan) has a landing pad search feature that works pretty well, hit the pad 4 out of 5 times in my tests. th-cam.com/video/iirwYPsFEFM/w-d-xo.html
I guess you don't have to worry about a crooked horizon with that little guy. The picture quality was pretty decent. I wonder how well the signal would hold up in a more challenging environment?
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment! Indeed, without some stabilization, video isn't the strong suit of this one but the pictures are pretty fair. I wasn't impressed with the signal strength, needs to be kept pretty close. In my testing only about 150m camera transmission, 400m for remote signal distance... It does depend a bit on the local geography so you could get better or worse than I did. Good Flying! 😎
Indeed, not too bad for a smaller inexpensive drone. I've gotten spoiled with stabilized video (either a gimbal or EIS) becoming so common, even on FPVs, that it is still fun to fly but the video isn't really useful for much. Pictures turn out pretty decent though so maybe in a dicey area it would be a good choice in case a tree jumps in front of me... 😎
@@AlienDrones I do see that while you are ground level but once you get some height, you have an insert on the lower left that says this is from the SD card.
Beginner here (just got a Holy Stone HS175D). Curious, do you mainly fly the drone by looking at it directly (line of sight), or fly it by looking at the app on your phone, as if you're actually a pilot on the drone? I was wondering how pilots control the drone when it's far away / temporarily out of sight. I assume they just look at the app on their phones. Thanks
You should fly mainly with visual line of site with the drone, not looking at the display as it will give you better situational awareness and it this is the FAA rule as well. One time where it does make sense to watch the display a little more is when you are trying to get a specific cinematic shot as small adjustments in the controls will probably be needed to keep the camera where you want it. Good Flying!
The video looks good, as for the way it's moving? I don't think it's sturdy enough. It looks like it's going back and forth trying to get it's axe's straight. BTW, awesome shoe's Keith. Thanks for sharing. 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching and the comments! Indeed, I thought it should be a bit more stable with GPS. I had a little struggle with the GPS signal but I'm wondering if this was this specific product having an issue. Other HS ones similar to this were stable as a rock, this one was a bit loose for some reason... Still fun, but have to keep it from hitting me in the face, lol... Good Flying!
Kieth . . . I have a HS720e, what I would describe at the next step up from the HS175D. Could you do an evaluation of the APP? I find the Ophelia GO app to be buggy, buggy to the point I'm afraid to fly. There is no documentation available. Even if the drone itself is good, it's no better than the flyer interface. (As a side note, the HS720e I have now is a replacement. The first would fly great with just the controller but would not function when under Ophelia GO control.)
Thanks for watching and the question... I'll take a look and see what I can come up with. There is a new drone that just came out, the HS710, trying to see if I can review this one next, but I wonder if it would use the same app? Do you know what native app the 720D uses?

Fly aways are the worst. I did struggle with the GPS on this one as well, hoped it was only the one I had. You are very lucky that you were able to get them back after 3 fly aways. I just flew the newest HS360 though and it was the most stable ones I've flown from HS. Hopefully they have learned what the problem was and addressed it.
Your shooting is great. Our company happens to be doing a microphone evaluation activity. Maybe you are interested? (This is my first job. It is very important to me. Can you help me?)
I purchased one of these. From the get go (out the box) it had "issues" with flight control. Pairing was hit and miss. Even once paired the unit would wantonly "unpair" itself and then go full on tonto flying at its own will. The "Go to home" function appeared to want to send the drone towards the International Space Station - then shut its motor off and land - well I say "land" - its more like pile itself into the ground at a million miles an hour. Drone sent back for full refund. I can't recommend the Holy Stone range - their customer support is rubbish and on my experience of their product its not far behind utter crap.
My first one went rogue . Just got another bnib for $80 👍 from a friend . It was up once , I saw it , he had no issues and doesn’t use so we shall see . I ll come back and complain in a week or so if it fails . People need to know . Of two out of two go rogue , then it sucks
I got this drone and on 2nd day, when it is flying around 16mtrs height, suddenly, GPS mode is lost (I've been flying in the middle of the city) , a lil bit of gust came from the other side and the drone flew off without control and fell into the lake 500mtrs away. Auto return home function when out of range or 'return to home' button didn't work at all. I had a very shitty experience and NO DRONE NOW. I'd recommend not to buy these unreliable products. Better save up and get a DJI.
Is it a piece of crap? Yes, it's a cheap piece of crap just like most drones are in this price range. Save your money and buy a little bit better one like a DJI Mini 2.
That's why I bring these products for you guys to view, you can make your determination on something other than what is on the manufacturers web page. _Piece of crap_ might be a harsh opinion but of course it's yours to have based on your needs. I'm sure it may have value for some based on the features and cost, regardless it was fun to fly, but wasn't perfect for sure... It makes a different seeing someone honestly flying these products rather than a produced advertisement for sure. I believe it also helps manufacturers when the see comments and expectations and they don't align with the features of their product, hopefully they guide them in line with what the industry wants and we end up with better products in the end! Good Flying!
@@AlienDrones That's why I like to watch people like you make these types of videos that expose them for what they are to potential customers, to keep them from wasting their money purchasing drones of this caliber. I'm looking for a drone in this price range to spot fish for surf fishing. Does the camera look/pan down? If so, how is this done?
The camera moves up and down.
I noticed that it isn't very stable considering there was no breeze. My HS720E is very stable compared to his HS175D.
One thing that helps this is the weight and 720e is double the weight at 495g.

Auto return home function when out of range or 'return to home' button didn't work at all. I had a very shitty experience and NO DRONE NOW. I'd recommend not to buy these unreliable products. Better save up and get a DJI.
As mentioned in this video, I had GPS issues with this drone as well. DJI has fly aways too, but they are pretty good, for sure...
Also, the same applies to the comments I make about how lousy they are made. There is one advertisement on the internet flaunting a several thousand dollar drone that a guy has left the company for making he has brought to market that is just as bad as the drone you are using before us here that is a huge lie.
@@fisherus I think I know which one you're referencing and it is really bad, a huge scam for sure. I did some research on this on a few months ago and that one is truly a *piece of crap* my friend! Makes me angry it's such a scam.
and the function follow me ?????? bad video dude
Apologies the free content doesn't meet your expectations. BTW, they do have remedial classes down at the senior center where they teach capitalization and punctuation of the English language.
