Is there no hotseat group of decent people who respect the rules and upload times? I find this quite shocking to be honest, not even bigger Total War TH-camr's are able to manage to play by the rules or just quit. What I learned from this video is that a hotseat only really works with a group of people who know each other or a hoseat that doesn't require as much players for it to be enough.
the reason theyre youtubers is because theyre too lazy to pursue a traditional career; that is, one that requires hard work, skill and determination to succeed in. They fail in all three of those categories, and that's why they fail so regularly in hotseats.
Some don't set out to have popular youtube channels though. Sometimes they just take off and its what they prefer doing. Doesn't mean they're not doing anything else with themselves.
I have no problems with youtubers in and of itself. It too requires hard work just to thinking about what the viewers one has wants to see next and it also requires some proficiency, yes even Let's Plays to some degree. But my main gripe is that many of them have a unhealthy big amount of an ego that gets in the way of their job being done. Just because a youtube channel gets recognized by thousands of people doesn't mean that the persons behind them can start slacking of and become like tv or movie stars (or any prominet person tbh)
Its always the case in large mutiplayer groups of strategy games, the first few games are always shitfests but let you weed out the shit people and build a core of decent players who can be put into strong nations in a multiplayer game and be trusted to punish anybody who abuses rules.
To people here in the comments, I know how some of you may feel angry and frustrated. I tried my best to help fix this hotseat but it didn't work. Keep in mind that there are loyal players that have stuck with the hotseat the whole way through; hating on everyone isn't fair. I intend to speak to some of the other players and see what they think; but I'll likely make a full video shortly on my perspective on all of this. Thanks.
Even though you were one of the smaller (so to speak) youtubers involved in the hotseat you were one of the models for how to conduct yourself properly, i.e. Prompt turns, entertaining videos etc so you've earned my respect and will stay subscribed for future videos, hotseats etc

I have a feeling most of these people quit because of the drama itself, which just created more drama. One shithead will ruin anything he gets into. That's what they do. Ruin things. Then everyone starts to do uncool stuff out of stress from all the bullshit. Shitheads get all of their sense of self and value as a person from disturbing shit, and will do everything in their power to disturb shit and avoid facing the fallout for it. Usually the one person who was the most difficult for the shit disturber is the person who ends up copping most of the hate (just look at how bully situations play out: everyone hates the guy who stands up to the dickhead because he "made him mad"). Just don't worry about it, be practical and friendly, and watch as what seems like big drama melts away as people start to associate the shit disturber with disturbed shit, no matter what kind of manipulative crap the dickhead seems to pull off in the moment.

These kind've little dramatics happen all the time in just about any MP Paradox/Europa Universalis campaign. (Which yes, often hilariously evolve to have extremely elaborate house rules). People quit, come back, quit again, have their snits. It should've stayed private.
to some degree ..such blind black or white decisions is what causes massive problems in the mtw2 commitunity...I would hope u would perhaps have some understanding in the problems players face..in these competions..but perhaps u do not wish to know or understand.. :(
Legend, I've managed many hotseats, and I currently also have a full grand campaign hotseat coming to an end, (probably Milan in my hotseat will win) and we started like 6 months ago. The key: Dedicated players. You can't manage a hotseat if players aren't interested, even if you're the best admin in the world.
Do you have a steam group? I'm only getting involved in hotseats recently but I'm an experienced Total War player and am a stickler for being prompt and reliable with my involvement. I've seen some of the battles you've been involved with on Apollos channel aswell and would dig doing a hotseat with you.

You know for a gruff shit talking Aussie who likes to curse a lot you show an unexpected level of understanding and magnanimity towards Swissman despite the fact he's completely wrong here. My opinion is his ego got in the way. I felt he was maybe a little jealous of your abilities and thought with his alliance against you he had a chance of beating you until Koda got kicked. Then he took advantage of the fact you're admin to make the spurious claim that you used your powers to kick Koda which is an argument thats way too convenient. Anyway I'm sad to see the hotseat end particularly the Stainless Steel one but at least I won't need to sit through it just to be disappointed that it ended prematurely. Was the right decision overall though.
Oh well Legend, its life, just have to move on, this will be one of those failures you'll look back on life. Having a large group in general to manage over a very long period of time is basically impossible to keep up with forever with unreliable people and the end point of it all is that it never ends well (better to do something like this over a very short period of time). I learned personally doing smaller things are much much easier to deal with overall than larger things, even though its cool to have something big like this, its just unrealistic to keep up going forever. I am going to probably stop posting to the playlist I made but I haven't even done any reordering of the hotseat videos for a long time now since it is in such a state of a mess of players being replaced or quitting altogether.

FlipUltraHD disagree here. im admin in a lot of the hotseats and it gives me the option to keep the pace going and ensure everyones keeping up to date. as long as the admins trustworthy and active, its fine. In this scenario, swissmans just being a bitch.

in the end. Its not the drama that killed the campaign for me. Its the people that quit and waste my time viewing their video's that killed it. I already was done watching it before all the drama because I only saw xdagger still playing as scotland france and egypt, And thats sad because this was my favorite series. I cant stand people that dont commit. Koda himself told me when he attacked you he didn't take any settlement. According to what you said that's true. So in defense, one could argue that you didn't kick koda because you got "backstabbed". You are still one of the strongest factions in this hotseat. I can also see your side in how you are tired of this BS with people leaving. That's a problem with you tuber hotseats. However I can also see the other side. You tried your best to hold the GC together, and people can argue that it was stupid of you to do that. I don't know if I can believe that. This is stupid youtube Drama though. If you want to end these hotseats, you may. No one said it was easy. I started admining my own 10 player hotseat and it's not easy. Luckily I just have friends n that and it's just 10 players but that's not even a TH-cam hotseat. So I understand cancelling it.

After all the hotseats I've been in, I can agree. They are a burden. especially if you're in charge of them. It takes some of the fun away. If the games were like Civ where you could have everyone together at once it'd make a difference.

Watching this 6 years into the future is wild. I've played the Game of Thrones board game so many times and backstabbing and lying in that game is freaking necessary. Seeing this - most or all are adults with far more years than me, and wow... Sad

I think it is hard for people to understand the politics and management hotseats/games of this scale is a tremendous effort....I do not have any gripe with either side here...I just think on swissmans side..his protential was raised from being nearly completely annilated[which looked on the cards in the first few episodes] which I can admire his play in turning things around...with virtually no allies..to a viable/productive but still vulnable state..with protential as his new [new players] allies have turned to his side of things[swissman has the charisma to turn players to his side of things..:D]..For me legend has a good state[taken from one of the poorest factions in the game,in terms of mp]...but seems a tired figure[personally] in managing a hotseat with several people leaving , people dismissed..and most of the other factions not obeying the rules, abusing the time requirements with valid excuses..You can be strong and have the players leave..or rule with justice only to have loads of players abuse the rules...this is clearly a not a great situation..[I think admin must now be separate from players in my opinion,both in the fatigue and problems it brings]Combine this with perhaps the newer players [not judging there abilities] of great and low abilities which changes the overall structure of play..for one part ..you can be beating a player and the next fighting a hotseat expert ..this causes massive politicall changes to the game..I don't want to point a finger and say ..he[or others] is to blame..to some degree I think the community is to blame..i have played in 5 tourlements ..one in Apollo's group and some from swissman and some from others..and in each case..loads enter..and don't hold up there end of the rules or the spirit of the community....I think we can count the number of players who held up there end of things in the single digits..for me ..all I can say..is that those that upheld the rules and did there bit without issue ,deserve major mention..But ultimately I think people should setup there own hotseat campaigns and experience the trials and problems for themselves to see the good and the bad of such campaigns and at least salute the engine that mtw2 runs on :D

There's always that one guy you end up not liking in these Hotseat campaigns. Except the Britannia one. Which I think was a very efficient hotseat compared to the rest.
Had to quit the hotseat because I was studying to enter college, which I did this year. Didn't realise it got so bad so fast, really wanted to see a winner crowned but guess that will not happen ever. Really do wish the total war community as a whole was better, the amount of times I've got fed up with things that don't even concern me in regards to total war games and/or players is unbeliavable. Anyway, best of luck on your other hotseats Legend, hope they go better than this one and get done faster as well ;)
meh nobody's perfect. it's impossible to manage a group of guys playing a competitive game when some aren't committed, most aren't following rules, and all are socially awkward. I still think that if you ever get over this stress of doing a youtuber one you could try doing a subscriber one. Lower key, less bureaucratic rules, people who aren't youtubers and are fans so can guarantee you their time.
Even with that all said, I am honestly extremely interested into getting into hotseats myself, since I love doing diplomacy in them to death. Does anyone know where I can find people willing to do them with an average to below average player?
I love this video. It shows how much thought you put into what you were doing and your level head about everything including being kind to someone you are having a disagreement with. It is such a stark contrast to Swissman's video. I would like to think that is why you are doing so well, and why he hasn't found a real fan base. Keep being you and know that will bring people in. I respect your take on all of the conflicts I have seen you in. I hope you know these videos show your character and while it might not win over everyone, some of us really respect you more when we can see how you handle these conflicts. I am just sorry you had to have them stress you. Keep on doing great work and keeping a level head.

Sad, don't understand how some can be so childish.. taking things personally, deleting their channels.. it's just a game for christ sake. hotseats are the best thing in your channel though, i like hearing how you plan things out. planning against humans is much more interesting than against computers. Will you start playing another strategic game perhaps ? obviously you have an audience for it, since many liked the hotseats.
perhaps the administrator shouldn't be a player that way players can't yell at the administrator can't be accused of kicking a player for attacking them because they aren't a player. it would also make things easier on the administrator even though it might be a bit boring
tbh The crusade and jihad shouldn't be allowed a first place because orthodox faction can't survive any jihad and crusade armies and they not even have strongest start imo.

That is true some are. I was a Mount and Blade napoleonic admin for the longest. Trying to admin a 200 person siege server to prevent people from griefing each other was awful. So was finding the name out of 200 to ban lol.
long ago i played tons of m2tw hotseats: classic, Anyan's method, with online battles etc. and i cant remember none of them which finished with logic way when someone is just wining. there were always some reasons for ppl leaving and tons of drama) all the time there will be some kind of issue even with adults memders. thats normal coz game is not ready for ...idk...real hard game imo
Yeah only play with the people you know and are friends with. Thats the only way to be able to gang up on each other and backstab each other, and still have fun without getting angry. I would still want to see a hotseat campaign of you, but only with a couple of players you really know well like lionheart, and perhaps some people you know in real life who don't have a youtube account but love to play the game and who you trust will follow the rules
Why even do it? If People are so dumb and cant commit just throw all out and end the thing - and search for people who really will play through - maybe you should make contracts with them that would force them to stay. - end of the story. Its good that you are strict.

It was a mistake to not allow autoresolves, limit crusades/jihads, autoresolves, and only have 1 hour max episodes. A game with this many people can easily take years, it helps shortens it if you get to use all the advantage you can. The harder factions in disadvantages situations had to be pull their weight if they want a chance of winning. I knew this campaign would end this way, rules are too strict for the people who don't like losing, so of course it became a mess when people do cheap things that conflicts with the rules because they failed to play legitly. This was never going to end especially there has to be only 1 man standing, long campaign victory should be the maximum someone has to go to win. With that in mind it keeps diplomacy a thing for people to work together to stop people who are almost there instead of not trusting anyone from step 1 to the end.

To do this without any prior notice to the players who were not involved in this controversy but were playing in the other hotseats running successfully from your Steam group was very unfair and disruptive to us. It wouldn't have killed you to give the other admins 24 hours to set up their own group or groups. Shame on you.
Yeah, I understand that you guys wouldn't have appreciated the dismantling of the group with virtually no notice, despite the fact I've been telling people for months that the group is getting dismantled, and even in the group description it said the group will be dismantled - which it said on the main page at the top right above the rules. Almost any conversation I've had with people in regards with the hotseats has ended with, by the way I'm dismantling the group soon. This was not out of the blue at all. I didn't give a specific date and time, but people were warned. This whole swissman thing really just pushed me over the edge, and I said ok it's today that this is happening. The reason you didn't know is because we rarely have conversations so it naturally never came up. I'm sorry you've been inconvenienced by this.

It is definitely understandable. Running pen n paper games as an admin or PBEM can be every bit as frustrating. A shame people cannot just enjoy a game, whether with friends, strangers, or frenemies.
Honestly, I have never seen a M2 hotseat video uploaded o'n your channel, aside from updates like this one ("enforcing rules now, take your turns,' etc.). Can't be that much of a loss series-wise If none of the participants want to continue, and you're not getting views anyways, it'd be weird to continue-even setting aside what a PITA you say it is
If you actually watch swissman's video and dont just blindly hate on him, he says pretty much everything Legend claims is "scummy", he literally states that he cared about that specific thing because it interrupted the plans they had. I know this will get hated to shit, but honestly Legend does sound super whiny in this situation. If you dont want to have to go through videos and "waste time" checking for rule breaks, dont be an admin. On a sepparate note in my opinion hotseats are such a bad idea in the first place, you cant expect them to go smoothly and fast. Even head to head campaings get released super slow and thats just 2 people..

You know for a gruff shit talking Aussie who likes to curse a lot you show an unexpected level of understanding and magnanimity towards Swissman despite the fact he's completely wrong here. My opinion is his ego got in the way. I felt he was maybe a little jealous of your abilities and thought with his alliance against you he had a chance of beating you until Koda got kicked. Then he took advantage of the fact you're admin to make the spurious claim that you used your powers to kick Koda which is an argument thats way too convenient. Anyway I'm sad to see the hotseat end particularly the Stainless Steel one but at least I won't need to sit through it just to be disappointed that it ended prematurely. Was the right decision overall though.
Oh well Legend, its life, just have to move on, this will be one of those failures you'll look back on life. Having a large group in general to manage over a very long period of time is basically impossible to keep up with forever with unreliable people and the end point of it all is that it never ends well (better to do something like this over a very short period of time). I learned personally doing smaller things are much much easier to deal with overall than larger things, even though its cool to have something big like this, its just unrealistic to keep up going forever. I am going to probably stop posting to the playlist I made but I haven't even done any reordering of the hotseat videos for a long time now since it is in such a state of a mess of players being replaced or quitting altogether.
Strict112 yeah honestly we think about the mess that is the hotseat with players leaving and joining but we never cared to thank you dude. Seriously, you dealt with some of the worst shit ordering turns and then dealing with people quitting, new players, players leaving, etc. so thank you.

FlipUltraHD disagree here. im admin in a lot of the hotseats and it gives me the option to keep the pace going and ensure everyones keeping up to date. as long as the admins trustworthy and active, its fine. In this scenario, swissmans just being a bitch.

TheRamble12 Non youtubers use Steam aswell. TW center can be a bit hard to navigate sometimes whereas Steam is a bit easier imo. If you can give me a link though for where I can go in TW center I'd be more than happy to look though I think I'll give KitStuka's stainless steel hotseat a go for now
After all the hotseats I've been in, I can agree. They are a burden. especially if you're in charge of them. It takes some of the fun away. If the games were like Civ where you could have everyone together at once it'd make a difference.

hi legend shame we can't see you rule the world as Poland (maybe a blitz style campaign in the future?), I don't comment very often but your video's are great.
I think it is hard for people to understand the politics and management hotseats/games of this scale is a tremendous effort....I do not have any gripe with either side here...I just think on swissmans side..his protential was raised from being nearly completely annilated[which looked on the cards in the first few episodes] which I can admire his play in turning things around...with virtually no allies..to a viable/productive but still vulnable state..with protential as his new [new players] allies have turned to his side of things[swissman has the charisma to turn players to his side of things..:D]..For me legend has a good state[taken from one of the poorest factions in the game,in terms of mp]...but seems a tired figure[personally] in managing a hotseat with several people leaving , people dismissed..and most of the other factions not obeying the rules, abusing the time requirements with valid excuses..You can be strong and have the players leave..or rule with justice only to have loads of players abuse the rules...this is clearly a not a great situation..[I think admin must now be separate from players in my opinion,both in the fatigue and problems it brings]Combine this with perhaps the newer players [not judging there abilities] of great and low abilities which changes the overall structure of play..for one part ..you can be beating a player and the next fighting a hotseat expert ..this causes massive politicall changes to the game..I don't want to point a finger and say ..he[or others] is to blame..to some degree I think the community is to blame..i have played in 5 tourlements ..one in Apollo's group and some from swissman and some from others..and in each case..loads enter..and don't hold up there end of the rules or the spirit of the community....I think we can count the number of players who held up there end of things in the single digits..for me ..all I can say..is that those that upheld the rules and did there bit without issue ,deserve major mention..But ultimately I think people should setup there own hotseat campaigns and experience the trials and problems for themselves to see the good and the bad of such campaigns and at least salute the engine that mtw2 runs on :D
He disabled his like bar and probably soon will disable comments. He did dish out a few more comments in response to a few comments pretty much saying he stands by what he said and is still convinced that Legend did it all because he had a personal problem with Koda.
There's always that one guy you end up not liking in these Hotseat campaigns. Except the Britannia one. Which I think was a very efficient hotseat compared to the rest.

Could a hot seat be possible for warhammer since it's smaller. You don't have to and i already enjoy content but the hotseats were neat to watch.
not for total war warhammer, since you can only do 2 player campaigns. you can do a hotseat for call of warhammer though

Had to quit the hotseat because I was studying to enter college, which I did this year. Didn't realise it got so bad so fast, really wanted to see a winner crowned but guess that will not happen ever. Really do wish the total war community as a whole was better, the amount of times I've got fed up with things that don't even concern me in regards to total war games and/or players is unbeliavable. Anyway, best of luck on your other hotseats Legend, hope they go better than this one and get done faster as well ;)

meh nobody's perfect. it's impossible to manage a group of guys playing a competitive game when some aren't committed, most aren't following rules, and all are socially awkward. I still think that if you ever get over this stress of doing a youtuber one you could try doing a subscriber one. Lower key, less bureaucratic rules, people who aren't youtubers and are fans so can guarantee you their time.

I love this video. It shows how much thought you put into what you were doing and your level head about everything including being kind to someone you are having a disagreement with. It is such a stark contrast to Swissman's video. I would like to think that is why you are doing so well, and why he hasn't found a real fan base. Keep being you and know that will bring people in. I respect your take on all of the conflicts I have seen you in. I hope you know these videos show your character and while it might not win over everyone, some of us really respect you more when we can see how you handle these conflicts. I am just sorry you had to have them stress you. Keep on doing great work and keeping a level head.

Sad, don't understand how some can be so childish.. taking things personally, deleting their channels.. it's just a game for christ sake. hotseats are the best thing in your channel though, i like hearing how you plan things out. planning against humans is much more interesting than against computers. Will you start playing another strategic game perhaps ? obviously you have an audience for it, since many liked the hotseats.
perhaps the administrator shouldn't be a player that way players can't yell at the administrator can't be accused of kicking a player for attacking them because they aren't a player. it would also make things easier on the administrator even though it might be a bit boring

To get a fair view of this situation, ask all other players their views of Hot Seat campaign - how was in the wrong.
you'll have to ask a lot of people, most of which don't care about the hotseat any more. And those that were in it, are probably now pissed at me for cancelling the hotseat.

I love the idea of hotseats, but its kind of needed to find 17 players to fill out all the factions. but in doing so your going to take on people you dont really know well enough. bit of a shame, i enjoyed watching these.
I agree with most of what you said, except you seem to be a bit irrational at times, like when you banned a guy for "giving you lip".
I am pretty sure 3rd strike was ban-able (as far as I know) and Legend was trying to be lenient and only bankrupt. And got lip for it. I don't blame him for dropping the leniency.

That is true some are. I was a Mount and Blade napoleonic admin for the longest. Trying to admin a 200 person siege server to prevent people from griefing each other was awful. So was finding the name out of 200 to ban lol.
long ago i played tons of m2tw hotseats: classic, Anyan's method, with online battles etc. and i cant remember none of them which finished with logic way when someone is just wining. there were always some reasons for ppl leaving and tons of drama) all the time there will be some kind of issue even with adults memders. thats normal coz game is not ready for ...idk...real hard game imo

Yeah only play with the people you know and are friends with. Thats the only way to be able to gang up on each other and backstab each other, and still have fun without getting angry. I would still want to see a hotseat campaign of you, but only with a couple of players you really know well like lionheart, and perhaps some people you know in real life who don't have a youtube account but love to play the game and who you trust will follow the rules

why not try to do a 2 player hotseat vs ai or a co op on another total war with someone
It was a mistake to not allow autoresolves, limit crusades/jihads, autoresolves, and only have 1 hour max episodes. A game with this many people can easily take years, it helps shortens it if you get to use all the advantage you can. The harder factions in disadvantages situations had to be pull their weight if they want a chance of winning. I knew this campaign would end this way, rules are too strict for the people who don't like losing, so of course it became a mess when people do cheap things that conflicts with the rules because they failed to play legitly. This was never going to end especially there has to be only 1 man standing, long campaign victory should be the maximum someone has to go to win. With that in mind it keeps diplomacy a thing for people to work together to stop people who are almost there instead of not trusting anyone from step 1 to the end.

To do this without any prior notice to the players who were not involved in this controversy but were playing in the other hotseats running successfully from your Steam group was very unfair and disruptive to us. It wouldn't have killed you to give the other admins 24 hours to set up their own group or groups. Shame on you.
Yeah, I understand that you guys wouldn't have appreciated the dismantling of the group with virtually no notice, despite the fact I've been telling people for months that the group is getting dismantled, and even in the group description it said the group will be dismantled - which it said on the main page at the top right above the rules. Almost any conversation I've had with people in regards with the hotseats has ended with, by the way I'm dismantling the group soon.
This was not out of the blue at all. I didn't give a specific date and time, but people were warned. This whole swissman thing really just pushed me over the edge, and I said ok it's today that this is happening.

If you actually watch swissman's video and dont just blindly hate on him, he says pretty much everything Legend claims is "scummy", he literally states that he cared about that specific thing because it interrupted the plans they had. I know this will get hated to shit, but honestly Legend does sound super whiny in this situation. If you dont want to have to go through videos and "waste time" checking for rule breaks, dont be an admin.
On a sepparate note in my opinion hotseats are such a bad idea in the first place, you cant expect them to go smoothly and fast. Even head to head campaings get released super slow and thats just 2 people..
