I'm totally stealing this concept for the avatar of Hanseath (Dwarven god of war, brewing, and drinking) in my campaign! :-) The finished mini looks awesome, BTW

New content idea for ya. Once a month, make a model like this and then have us submit a backstory/adventure to fit the model and decide which one you like best.
I have my own unique setting that I've been running off and on for the last 15 years. I used facets of the traditional races to make new ones. Viking dwarves, Desert Elves, Dothraki Halflings, Samurai Orcs. The players really love them.I really love them. Along with the steampunk it reallly makes it hard to find minis though.
I thought the word 'seminal' only had one definition, and I thought it was weird that you chose that word so I looked it up. Turns out it has 2 definitions. Great work AND educational! Thanks BMC! For the interested, the definition is "strongly influencing later developments".
Thanks for taking the time to look it up before leaving a comment that I used, or pronounced, a word “wrong” when I actually didn’t. I wish more folks did that.
The Dwarves sterotypes are drawn from Tolkien, who based his dwarves on Germanic/Norse/Viking folklore. His version of the elves is also based in Germanic folklore, but also with a bit of sprinkling of Gaelic folklore. Tolkien-style elves are basically a combination of the elves of Germanic Folklore and the Faeries of Celtic folklore.
Great stuff! Thinking that this worm is mind scrubbed and being used to track down larvae that have been impregnated into Earth Elementals and remove them. The kegs are actually holding the larvae: new delicacy, a bit like a gourmet sausage. That’s why this guy looks like a king - he’s making a fortune off purplewurst.
I would use this as a quest giving Demi-God who pops up to annoy the party from time to time (such a Q from Star Trek) but rewards the players with magical brews (ale that acts as a healing potion, mead that acts as a long rest etc.)
Haven't gone through all of the comments yet, but I was working on a dwarf sea captain with a crew of species normally associated with land/desert areas. Basically, the ship's crew is a set of misfits shanghaied as a joke for other ships who found home on the sea.
i took the title as a challenge and made some original dwarves general concept is these dwarfs are humans who were imprisoned or kidnapped and sold to a mining company and mutated and re engineered into small mining slaves their arms legs replaced with powerful mechanical limbs their eyes were replaced with mechanical visors for better eyesight in the dark they were given a mechanical drill tail to brake threw hard rocks and they were encased in a suit of armor with mining claws forced to mine for years they looks like a decaying corpse fused with machines under the suit their remaining skin is a pale sickly green their ears have stretched becoming long and sharp like those of goblins depicted in stories their noses have been removed to allow a snug fit in their armor the person who has undergone this augmentation has been lobotomized and parts of their brain has been replaced with circuitry to control their behavior the final product is no longer human and has been nicknamed by other miners as dwarvs they are the byproduct of sick greedy corporate minds if yt had a photo button i would show the hero forge minis i made to go with the discription
Man I wish I was able to comment that using my regular account instead of that temp account (got locked out for a bit) but yea I might make a video on the minis I made for the concept I mentioned in the comment above
I recently did some World building for my campaign in mythras. At the time I was listening to a podcast on the gaulic wars when it dawned on me that you can map dwarves really smoothly onto something like the Roman empire. Both Romans and dwarves where incredible engineers, both relied on infantry and artillery. In the podcast they talked about the fact that the Roman legionary was half soldier and half construction worker and that they where able to plop up a fort within a few hours. This was terrifying to their enemies since they could just wake up one morning and boom have a legion in a fortified position right next door. Also think about a line of dwarven legionaries with ballistas fire in a straight line over their heads into their larger enemies. Aesthetically it's Was a bit more challenging but you can take inspiration from things like 300 or the fyreslayers which already come with those nice bushy helmets that all ready look somewhat like centurion.
The ultimate macguffin for every D&D campaign - a generally chaotic good, appear at the most opportune (or occasionally worst possible) time to provide supplies (for a price), random gifts, etc - a Star Wars Rebels version of Hondo type NPC
Great work, man. Looking forward to seeing some more bits & bobs you've made for the INQ28k game, those were impressive & something of a break from the norm
Now that I think of it, this is the kind of thing you would see cruising around the playa at Burning Man. The players see him crashing through sand dunes with a rave of lights and sounds. He doesn’t stop to talk to them, he’s got places to be, and he’s moving at like 100 feet per round so they can’t even catch him to ask what he’s got going on. Three real-life months later they see him in a tavern, no worm in sight but it is unmistakably him, and he has no idea what they’re talking about.
One of the most original dwarves I've seen in a video game (as an individual, not to discount the Dwemer in Elder Scrolls)is Dagna. She is completely incapable of doing magic but fervently wants to attend the Circle of Magi to study and understand magic. In DA: Inquisition she can become your faction's magical crafter and come up with some really cool and wonky stuff, a bit like Sandal "Enchantment?" Feddic did in the first two games, but with a LOT more personality. - This kit-bash build is just THICK with possible stories. Love it!
So, my players just completed a quest for a local heroes guild in a large city, and instead of Standard payment, they decided to have the guild pay the fees to open a business. You gave me a GREAT idea about a mechanical worm breaking into the treasury to steal precious metals to add to its body, and if they want their payment/shop opened, they need to find the culprits and bring them to justice
my homebrew dwarves are themed on the Mesopotamian cultures - they were the first to make written word and the original "wizards" and magical construct creators. Plus they have such cool beard designs from the ancient art we have.
I've made a "Beard mage" with an animated beard familiar, a dwarven Dandy Bard, a dwarf samurai, a dwarven alchemist that specialized in brewing potions form ale, and a duegar druid/monk/sorcerer that flurried with his quarterstaff shillelagh typically after enlarging. Limited imaginations make me sad. (not minis just characters)
I love the idea that this guy is just making ale deliveries to taverns on the surface, but navigating tunnels like this is hard, and steering a worm is tough, so he just busts out of the floor in the taproom or the stable yard (non-zero chance of a horse becoming lunch) from time to time. He's not a villain, but is clearly causing problems and needs some kind of help.
A Dwarf Wizard with some sort of permanent 'Passwall' or 'Investiture of Stone' effect so that he can sit happily on his throne as his pet worm tunnels away.
I made a Welsh dwarf who was a painter and had an obsession on painting an ancient silver dragon. He had one glass of wine a night and was well read. He was a fighter and fought with his easel. I miss him
Nice build man! Dwarves hold a special place in my heart too. Just curious. How many minis would you say you own at this point. That shot of your shelf of minis was very imposing, LOL
This reminds me of the dwarf I played back when I played Neverwinter Nights. He was a pure barbarian build that wore heavy armor and fought with his fists. The idea was based on Thibbledorf Pwent from the Drizzt series of books. The idea was so fun to me that I very much stole the idea of a dwarf that wears spikey, sharp edged armor and uses the armor as a weapon just as much as any other weapons they may have. Really the only thing that was, kinda, original about him was that he had two wooden peglegs and two hooks for hands. He was also missing his right eye just for good measure. To this day I have not found a mini that I feel would be a good base for the modifications I'll need to make if I'm gonna make Gennar "Clanky" Clenk. I've got some sketches That I drew of him and have a bit of knowledge of 3d design but I currently don't have much money to invest in 3d printing. Gonna have to save up for that.
This is awesome! He's got his own ale supply! Is it blessing ale? Bless the trees, bless the squirrels, bless the worm till we all get ferschnickled! Hooray!
This is a plastic figurine of a dwarf. All craftsdwarfship is of the highest quality. The item is a masterfully designed image of a dwarf and a giant worm in plastic by Jeremy. The dwarf is riding the giant worm. It menaces with spikes of plastic.
Awesome as per usual!! So inspiring 😁 you should get GW to have you create some official kit-bashes that they can then sell to people who use their models.
This is ingenious. I love it. In Neverwinter Online, I created a dwarven magician that is a little different. He has a well-groomed appearance and is a highly educated master of flames. His humor is more suble than that of most of his kin, but quite dry, nonetheless. His last name, 'Loreseeker', is a hint to his beloved profession.
Recently plucked krenko the goblin mob boss off his base and glued him to a a little throne a sculpted out of fix it stick (knock off jb weld). I then took a cheap dollar tee T. rex, painted it up to look much better then sculpted some armor and shield, spikes etc. and strapped the throne with the goblin mob boss himself standing on. It’s sweet. Damn proud of it
All I can think of is parched Dwarves feeling the tremors and then hearing the Dickie D bell and rushing to get in line for the whimsical spirits vendor.
I like to think he is a crazy dwarf who just doesnt have much of a social life under the mountain. He ended up in an adandoned kingdom all alone and thinks himself the ruler of his realm. He somehow found a huge worm that didnt eat him right away and decided to ride it as a pet. Now he goes around towns thinking everyone is his subjects and no one has a clue who he is.
I gotta say as well, the story concept you threw out about who your wurm rider might be is what makes TTPRG so much fun. My favorite was the thief version due to its absurdity!
So the kickstarter has a bunch of geomancers, maybe thats how the wurm and dwarf get around together? He moves the earth around him with magic as the wurm tunnels

Been subscribed forever! Love your videos and i enjoy this hobby vicarioisly through your channel... now about your new dwarf on a worm creation: I see this art as possibly an enslaved dwarf, riding the enslaved mount supplied by a sorcerer... only by consumimg large quantities of alcohol can he temporarily lessen the spell and think somewhat independently... he roams from town to town, tavern to tavern in search of someone or something to release him from the spell. The reason for the original enslavement is unclear...at this time, lol. More to come...
The worm tunnels through quantum threads and caries it's beast master and his survival supplies from one reality to the next. The dwarven beast master is constantly searching for the realm that he came from. With no way to control what reality he goes to just when the worm leaves.
I ran a Dwarf ranger who started out as a cleric to the storm god, until he was struck by lightning and cast out (Who would have guessed that electrolysis could be seen as a curse "Strombittrn"). So he became a bald and scarred hunter, living off what he could catch and wearing a handmade hairpiece that was clearly a badly cut animal skin (No Disguise skill...) and calling himself Toric Greenteeth (Ask him why...). My DM and I worked together and made him into an avatar for a lightning god. He developed a pattern of facial markings as a kind of stigmata and turned out to be a pretty cool character.
This was cool! Dwarves as we know them on TTRPGs are directly from Tolkein though he got them from Norse mythology. The dwarves in the Eddas were as we think of them, master crafters whose goods were highly sought after. They lives underground ect. Same for elves, they were just mortal peoples ruled by the gods of Asgard.
I always thought the dwarfs came from Norse mythology seeing as they helped make Thor's hammer and other items, and if I'm not mistaken the Dark elves or Svart Alfer are sometimes believed to be very similar to the dwarfs or a direct references to dwarfs under another name.
Part of getting use out of old fantasy tropes is to really dig down to their roots, and figure out what they're about at their basic level. Then, express those base elements under different conditions. Recently, I've toyed with the concept of Plains Elves. Nomadic, pastoral elven communities that dwell on grasslands, savannahs, or steppes. With lumber and metal in short supply, their crafts are mostly textiles, woven grasses, and leather. My vision of a warrior from these tribes is one clad in cloth armor, and wielding magic weapons spun from linen, cotton, or wool. Weapons that can fold as normal fabric and even be worn innocuously, but which become rigid and sharp on command. Their nomadic lifestyle also means that they do not care to hoard physical possessions, for anything that is not lightweight or immediately useful only weighs them down on the road. They eschew burdens whenever possible, even burdens of grudges. If we extend the principle of drilling down to a fantasy race's bare essentials, when might have dwarves that live in an undercity that is literally on the underside of a floating island or continent. While other folk may make their homes on the top ("sunside") of the land mass, the dwarves build great cities hanging from below. With upside down spires and castles, from which they may survey the shadowed world below.

-A cousin from each of his parents' families (one cousin a dual-pick-wielding Ranger and the other a Cleric)
-A Gnome Rogue who helped offer the proverbial olive branch to the non-Dwarf, non-Gnome residents of the stronghold
He was nearly killed in his early training by a different cousin (a Dwarf with a coal-black beard, an extra-surly demeanor, and whose name in Dwarven literally means Burning Tomb Skull-Crusher) who was subsequently exiled because of it. A future idea would be modular hedge mazes, as well as goblinoid dryad and treants. Different centaur bodied creatures, like a civilization of elves who either transmuted themselves permanently into various forest creatured centaurs, or druids who got stuck halfway through a wild shape.
chair box?
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial box from top shelf that had the throne. Assuming taver chair and stool cane from as well.
Akso, thanks for responding, hope you're having s great day. My 6 year old and i constantly watch and rewatch your videos
Terrain Crate sets by Mantic Games. I have a couple unboxing vids about them with links and I think it might still be on my essential equipment page as well.
I love the idea that this guy is Dwarven Santa, dropping off casks of booze to good dwarf boys and girls😂
Love it!
I think this must be one of my favorite mini builds of yours. Really cool and fun and so many stories can be told with it.
Fantasy etymology 101: If it's in Fantasy, there's a good 90% chance it originated from Tolkien.
That's what happens when someone steals mythology from every Western source he can get his hands on and flogs it as his own.
@@jonathantillian6528 that's the dumbest logic I've ever heard, you literally could say that about every creator of fiction. You wouldn't have new stories without inspiration, and utilizing variations of older ideas. Don't be an ass.
"The enemy of art is the absense of limitations" Orson Wells
Your painting skills are on point, gorgeous detail on the entire thing, but the wyrm in particular. Love it!
do love a bit of character creation. Good job!
Brilliant kitbash! And an excellently enigmatic figure. It's exactly the sort of thing that Brian Froud might have come up with. I like the beer delivery idea - the party is starting to flag, the innkeeper refuses to sell you another keg, when suddenly, the floor opens up, and here's yer man, on a huge tame worm, and bringing more booze than you could imagine. All hail the ale!
I'm totally stealing this concept for the avatar of Hanseath (Dwarven god of war, brewing, and drinking) in my campaign! :-) The finished mini looks awesome, BTW
I love this model! I also love watching you make stuff like this. You fill the commentary with many words of wisdom too which is fab 🧡
Love watching you create. I have started making terrain and incorporating it into my games. Thanks for the inspiration.
This is absolutely the most imposing ale-based dwarf character
id say this is a very perfected video. great example of creativity, great example of quality and believability. nice one
Sweet paint job!! I would think the dwarf and his mount have a protective dimensional planar shield that protects the rider and gear while burrowing. They are imbibed with a special magical property called 'Handwavium'! Lol. Nice job as always taking crafting into artistry!
@@BlackMagicCraftOfficial I feel you, man. Keep up the awesome work!
So cool! Must be extremely satisfying to create an original piece for the table. Looks great 👍
I love this concept!! My characters are going into the under-dark soon and I would love to use this as a wandering merchant NPC!!
Great project! These "Kit Bash" projects are my favorite!
i took the title as a challenge and made some original dwarves
general concept is these dwarfs are humans who were imprisoned or kidnapped and sold to a mining company and mutated and re engineered into small mining slaves their arms legs replaced with powerful mechanical limbs their eyes were replaced with mechanical visors for better eyesight in the dark they were given a mechanical drill tail to brake threw hard rocks and they were encased in a suit of armor with mining claws forced to mine for years they looks like a decaying corpse fused with machines under the suit their remaining skin is a pale sickly green their ears have stretched becoming long and sharp like those of goblins depicted in stories their noses have been removed to allow a snug fit in their armor the person who has undergone this augmentation has been lobotomized and parts of their brain has been replaced with circuitry to control their behavior the final product is no longer human and has been nicknamed by other miners as dwarvs they are the byproduct of sick greedy corporate minds
if yt had a photo button i would show the hero forge minis i made to go with the discription
Man I wish I was able to comment that using my regular account instead of that temp account (got locked out for a bit) but yea I might make a video on the minis I made for the concept I mentioned in the comment above
The color scheme is fantastic. Great job as usual.
Unleash the Beerwyrm!!!! That's a great kitbash, and the various options for its background was a load of fun.
Very cool, loving how this came together.
Love the kitbash! Cool concept :) Definitely need to get myself a 3d printer :) thanks for the video!

This kit-bash build is just THICK with possible stories. Love it!
Now this would make an believable trader you could absolutely meet in an underground dungeon.
I was skeptical but the final result looks amazing. So much character and tons of fun
Maybe there's a sort of ... shield? drill bit? that gets attached to the front of the purple worm so that it carves out a larger tunnel as it burrows.
Excellent paint job Jeremy, I love it!
The worm you selected is perfect. I like the quirkiness of it. Nicely done!! I love it! Where’d you get that chain. Perfect size!
Michaels. I buy that sort of thing in person as it’s easier to get size right.
my homebrew dwarves are themed on the Mesopotamian cultures - they were the first to make written word and the original "wizards" and magical construct creators.
“Sorry guys, my bad!”
A Dwarf Wizard with some sort of permanent 'Passwall' or 'Investiture of Stone' effect so that he can sit happily on his throne as his pet worm tunnels away.
Reminds me of a Dwarf Clan in my campaign world that uses Bulletes to conduct underground raids (like tunneling vikings)
Great job. Thanks for always inspiring others to get out there and think outside the box.
I made a Welsh dwarf who was a painter and had an obsession on painting an ancient silver dragon. He had one glass of wine a night and was well read. He was a fighter and fought with his easel. I miss him
This is awesome! It feels like something that would show up in the Rat Queens comics!
Nice build man! Dwarves hold a special place in my heart too.
Just curious. How many minis would you say you own at this point. That shot of your shelf of minis was very imposing, LOL
A couple hundred? I think? Most of it is just one Reaper Bones KS.
Very cool!! Nice ideas to use him!! I love the story of a thief!!
It’s sweet. Damn proud of it
I was literally painting the same worm model for Frostgrave when I found this video lol
Good stuff as always!
*busts through the floor of the tavern* OH YEAH!
I loved it! maybe you could make it a onthly challenge to take a common fantasy trope and create an original model out of it.
The Dwarf archetype of expert craftsmanship and gritty fighters come from Tolkien. In the book the Silmarillian by Tolkien there's a lot about them.
I see him more like Dwarven Duffman delivering mead to those in need.
All I can think of is parched Dwarves feeling the tremors and then hearing the Dickie D bell and rushing to get in line for the whimsical spirits vendor.
His trusty Purple Worm Sheila tunnels him around delighting thirsty folk the world over.
Love that purple choice for the wurm! I wonder if anyone will do it on the stonewurms release in this collection...
Love that paint job. Those oil washes again?
Yessir!
You really are such a wonderful maker. Thank you for all the amazing videos and inspiration 🙏🙏🙏
Getting some strong dune sandworm vibes lol
The Hops must flow!
Someone in the AVG Facebook group kitbashed the stonewurm and a dwarf from this set to make that! It looks great!
It looks like a Purple Worm from D&D xD those beasties are tough
Hey, your videos helped me get started on making my own terrain
Now I'm planning this pirates inspired adventure and want to make some coast/island/water tiles, is there any chance you can make a video on something like that?
Ok that is seriously cool ! Love your final model, that is one badass Dwarf and definitely original! Nice one ;)
Dwarf Fortress Dwarves riding giant horned beetles are one of my favorite dwarf ideas.
