I had been thinking of getting the T5 for quite awhile, but hadn't pulled the trigger on it. Then when the T6 dropped, I jumped on it, especially since they used K490. I like trying out new steels, and I had never checked that steel out so I went for it. I'm glad I didn't drag my feet to long because this second run is now 3V. Nothing wrong with 3V, but I have plenty of blades in that steel already, and I've been quite impressed with the 490. I've enjoyed the K390 on my Spyderco knives, so the K490 really piqued my interest. It's held up very well for me. I wonder why Lionsteel switched steels. I'm guessing it's either a supply issue, or it's to hard to work with. It seems pretty wear resistant, and the toughness has impressed me as well, so I don't doubt it tears up their belts pretty quick.
I just bought a T5 green micarta from you, I didnt realize it until going back over TH-cam reviews. Your comparison is why I went t5 over t6 for a new game processing knife, I thought the t6 would be a bit big for field processing. Thank you!
The K490 may be a limited run but the standard steel on the T6 is going to be CPM-3V. Great to see lionsteel moving to microclean & PM steels on their larger blades.
@@SlashGears Technically K490 is better than 3V across the board. It's tougher at the same hrc & better edge retention as well. 3V is however still a very good steel (my personal favorite) & it is a lot easier to sharpen than K490.
I managed to get the European knives and tools exclusive Lionsteel M5 in CPM 3V and it holds it edge at least 2 x longer than my T5. Still use the T5 more as I prefer it
If the T6 had a similar handle to the T5 I would have picked one up instantly, not a fan of the greens and browns they went with and lack of cnc work. They will probably have more options in future but I’m not so interested in getting one in 3v which is what they will be by then.

I own the T5. Niolox has held up well but I would definitely have preferred it in 3v
