Kostas Kostis, Professor of Economics & Social History at University of Athens, and Advisor to the Management of Alpha Bank, speaking at the panel “The Future of Democracy: Challenges & Problems” of Delphi Economic Forum VIII, referred to the challenges that modern Greek democracy must face.
Democracy in Greece has proven resilient to the pressures that have arisen in recent years from the economic crisis, but 70% of Greeks believe that the political system is not functioning properly.
According to Mr. Kostis, the reversal of this climate depends, on the one hand, on economic stability and growth, which supports the legitimacy of the political system, and, on the other hand, on the improvement of the educational and justice systems, as necessary elements for attracting foreign investments.

Ο Κώστας Κωστής, Καθηγητή Οικονομικής και Κοινωνικής Ιστορίας στο Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών και Συμβούλου Διοίκησης στην Alpha Bank, μιλώντας στο πάνελ “The Future of Democracy: Challenges & Problems” του Delphi Economic Forum VIII, αναφέρθηκε στις προκλήσεις που πρέπει να αντιμετώπισει η σύγχρονη ελληνική δημοκρατία.
Η δημοκρατία στην Ελλάδα έχει αποδειχτεί ανθεκτική στις πιέσεις που προέκυψαν τα τελευταία χρόνια από την οικονομική κρίση, ωστόσο 70% των Ελλήνων θεωρούν ότι το πολίτευμα δεν λειτουργεί σωστά.
Κατά τον κ. Κωστή, η αντιστροφή αυτού του κλίματος περνάει αφενός μέσα από την οικονομική σταθερότητα και ανάπτυξη, η οποία υποστηρίζει και τη νομιμοποίηση του πολιτικού συστήματος, και αφετέρου μέσα από τη βελτίωση του εκπαιδευτικού συστήματος και του συστήματος απονομής δικαιοσύνης, ως απαραίτητα στοιχεία για την προσέλκυση επενδύσεων.
