Dw dude we wouldnt watch if we wasnt interested i personally have never played a single mario party game from 1 to 7 only playing 8 to 10 not including handheld versions or games and i generally love this series i love analysis game mechanics and system i will most likely never play any of these games and if i did i wouldnt remember these tactics but its fun to watch i usually watch them 1 time as an actual watch then when i am wanting to go to sleep i will re watch them to fall asleep probably watch the ones on mp1 and 2 like 10 to 30 times each
I just noticed with Waluigi's Islands that there are Luigi things on it that are getting destroyed which makes you think that it used to be Luigi's Island, but that Waluigi just put "Wa" in front of "Luigi's Island". They even destroyed Luigi's house to make Waluigi's house! Also Mario bonks his head on the ground if he loses.

2:48:30 I actually had that happen to me once. Exactly once. Game Guy rolled a 2, I rolled a 1. Game Guy rolled again, hit a 6 and fell off- his dialogue actually changes in that situation! Normally when he falls, he mentions you can roll again, but if you go higher than 7, he keeps your coins. In the extremely rare scenario this happens when you're on 1, he instead changes that part to pointing out that there's literally zero risk in rolling again since there's no way you can fall off, so you may as well try for the x10- worst that'll happen is you get x2 instead! I like that the devs actually considered that.

Yeah I just realized the hours (if you round down the numbers) of each "Identifying Luck" videos is directly linked to which Mario Party he's talking about lol.
MP7 is going be a monstet. It has the normal boards, the "solo" boards that has slightly different layouts and can be play with 2 people, and the 8 player mode that mess with dice blocks. Then you have board spefific goals and items, and finally you have character specific items. Luckily there not to many mini games.
I doubt it will be that long. It has less minigames to go over in that one compared to Mario Party 3. Sure there are new board events in that one including board unique ones but they could all only take up so much time even factoring in the item lineup.

Mario Party 3 is by far the most enticing for strategic play with added item slots and items. As well as the skeleton key door bouncing you mentioned. Glad to hear a lot of other people adore this game!

@@espurrseyes42 Why can't we have all 3 games on virtual console? I'm not a big fan of the first game, but that's mainly because some minigames could have used some polish. We don't use rock hard N64 analog sticks anymore. I can't even begin to tell you how difficult it was to get a copy of Mario Party 3 on an actual N64. I managed to get one last year for £75. I was only able to do that thanks to my homemade comics making decent money at my college. I'm glad I did because alongside the second game, it's easily the peak of N64 multiplayer gaming, and still holds up really well which is something I can't say about most Nintendo 64 games. I'm not sure if I would call it the most underrated though. It's generally considered a high point by those who played it (most at least). That and 6 and 7 are arguably just as good and don't get as much attention.
@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 MP1 not being ported is because of that N64 lawsuit. Nintendo doesn't want to risk it again. That being said, Gamepad and Classic Controller C-sticks don't have the same issue the N64 stick did, and worst case scenario, control stick spinners can be changed to AB Alternative Mashers.
18:10 idk if this was intentional or not, but having no music in the background when explaining the reverse mushroom intensified your point on how powerful of an item it is, and was a nice touch
3's always been my fave. Gotta love the sheer nonsense that is mechanics like Game Guy and rare items, and you gotta appreciate the game that introduced the concept of three items in one inventory. Some really neat boards too, particularly Spiny Desert and Waluigi Island. Truly the unsung champion of the n64 trilogy.

Had this in a pinch early in the game -- very easy to drain coins with early Bank spaces and item shops that calling for Bowser so you can have coins to buy a Star is smart.

I notice that a surprising amount of your strategies involve the interaction between the real-life people on the couch rather then relying entirely on the game mechanics, which I'm guessing is the desire of party game designers and the mark of a good party game, fostering interaction between the players in the room. 🙂 Specifically, your solution to a lot of the elements out of each player's control basically boils down to asking the other players to please target someone else. I'm sure that's easy for *you,* Mr. Sexy Voice...

If I was playing a competitive game with 3 experts, I'd deff ban it, it's not fun watching ppl deliberately position themselves around boo to game the system.

@@zoomzike it could possibly be the fact of a misplacement of the bowser doll since Waluigi is tall, and probably makes it awkward to squat his legs and make it look realistic enough to spin. so he doesnt go down far enough to be at the same height as the other characters. but thats just my guess on why that might be.

Mario Party 3 is my favorite game out of the series, every Sunday and bunch of my friends and family gather to play this amazing game but goddamn do we all pretty much hate Creepy Cavern. It’s so annoying to navigate through, at certain points we all just use the genie to move the star since the mine-carts and Thwomp always screw us over lol

Autobot Starscream Bingo. My problem is that in reducing the board size, they limit what each board is capable of showing off. Even if the dice roll is reduced (which is hardly a fix since getting extra dice from allies is as easy as walking forward, plus several characters able to reach up to 10 on their custom dice anyway), there’s still 40 fewer spaces for... anything. Events, visual spectacle, special spaces, alternative routes... and 56 spaces is the size of three of the boards, while the final unlockable board is around 26 instead, and that’s just ridiculously small even if you don’t have partner dice.
I actually refused to buy a star in the boo board in MP4, I was last on the last turn, and used the magic lamp. I was 1stars bellow the first player (everyone else were out of the picture), and He had more coins (the bonus stars were of). Now, I didn’t buy the star, but took a risk of hitting a good roll to get to the boo, who I couldn’t afford alongside the star. I actually got to the boo stole a star, and won, that was litteraly the only time O hav not bought a star
Yeah, stealing a Star is better than buying one, because it is +2 than +1 advantage, and if you only have 50-69 coins you're probably better off declining that Star Space.
My wife asked me why you would ever skip buying a star. What you just said is exactly why you would, if it's late game and you need that star steal (a 2-star difference vs 1-star), you may need to skip buying a star to win the game
Having watched over 50 hours of competitive Mario Party 3 and breaking the game open, the Chain Chomp Game Guy Minigame operates with each chomp having a 1/multiplier chance of eating a piece of cake each bite. If the multipliers were 2x and 64x, then the 2x chomp has a 50% chance to eat a piece with each bite, while the 64x chomp has a 0.015625% chance to eat a piece with each bite. As it takes 3-4 bites to finish the cake, the odds multiply against themselves. It's nigh impossible for the 16x, 32x, or 64x, to win. I always take the 2x chomp, with only the 4x swaying me in situations where I don't have many coins to lose.

I looked at the behind the scenes video of Identifying luck in Mario Party 2 and found it super interesting how you do your animations in Sony Vegas. You forgot to mention that in Spiny Desert, if you Drawn a 8 at the beginning of a game, you can buy a item worth then coins, take the upper path to Skeleton Key Game, land on the Bowser Space and Gain 30 coins.

You forgot to point out the most crucial thing about Chilly Waters: The fact that the TCNation has enslaved the snowmen. On the bottom where the start and bank space are, snowmen are rising from the ground, hoping to start a new life, only for some penguins to rip the first snowman’s head off because they wanna play soccer with it. Behind the item shop, one penguin is catching a tan while a snowman is dying, with another penguin calling the source of the light causing said snowman to die. Above the happening space, about 5 penguins are skiing on the snowmen’s corpses (at least I think it’s their corpses). And finally, in the icy 5-way junction, that breaks when two people are on it, 4 penguins forced a snowman to catch their dinner! TL;DR, TCNick3 has invaded and conqured Montana! With penguins as the oppressors!
2:23:00 FYI, Stacked Deck is not the same situation as Bowser's Big Blast - the initial order DOES matter. Several years ago I worked out the (approximate) probabilities of winning from each starting position: 1st: 19.8% 2nd: 23.1% 3rd: 26.5% 4th: 30.6% The reason why this is different is fairly straightforward, actually: the Boos. Once a Boo is drawn, every player still in has an equal probability of winning because they're shuffled into a random order. If, for example, player 3 picks a Boo on their first turn, then player 4 is guaranteed to still be in, while players 1 and 2 did have to risk it. It adds up to a pretty significant advantage for the players who go later.

I guess a more convincing argument for why the probabilities aren't equal is this: think about last place instead of first. If the order didn't matter, then each player should have a 25% chance of coming in last, but the first player has a 33% (4/12) chance of getting Baby Bowser on the first card and coming in 4th without the other players doing anything. In fact, the first player has an overall ~41% chance of coming in last, more likely than them placing 1st or 2nd combined.
The main reason Bowser's Big Blast is fair and Stacked Deck isn't is simple: when every player's picked a plunger in BBB, the plungers reset and re-randomize. In SD, the cards never re-randomize. In BBB, if two players remain, every bomb has a 1/3 chance of eliminating the first player, a 1/3 chance of eliminating the second player, and a 1/3 chance of eliminating nobody and being replaced with another bomb. Without the latter mechanic, the first player would lose 2/3 of the time.
I remember, on Chilly Waters, there was a Star Space that activated soon after the goal, which made the ice safety space really close to it. Seeing as I had >20 coins and the opponent on the ice didn't, I pullei the kamikaze tactic for a win-win!
I always used the dueling glove when another player was fighting me for the coin star. If we both had 80-90 coins I would duel them for everything they had, usually taking them for all they were worth and setting the coin star bar so high it was impossible for anyone else to ever hope to reach it even if I lost all my coins somehow.
@@zoomzike To be fair, I usually didn't go out of my way to get the glove, but if I happened to get it, that's what I would use it for. Even if I was at say 90 coins and the next highest person was at 45. 45 coins in one go is a lot, that's two Boos' worth of coins at once. The other time I'd use it was if someone was close to the star and I wanted to keep them from it but I wasn't near enough to Boo. Or if one person couldn't play I would use it to destroy the computer. It was embarrassing to allow the computer to win so the three of us left would band together to defeat them at all costs. This usually resulted in the computer finishing the game with 0 stars, no bonus stars, and around 10 coins.
If I'm honest I think the bonus stars were the best balancing factor in this version. Made the game feel quite a bit more skill based both on decision making and the minigames.
Great job, I love these videos! One advice you could elaborate on in future videos is probability distribution when using a red or golden mushroom: When you roll two dice, it's much more likely to get a number around 10 while on a 3-dice-roll, you are more likely to get a result around 15. It's something you can keep in mind if there is a specific space you are aiming for certain spaces that are exactly 10/15 spaces away.
The timing for the Thwomps has always been the most finicky board mechanic in this game since the timing is surprisingly tight. Also, Waluigi Island's random left island is one of the few times where grinding chance times is an option especially with 2 star spaces on this island you could easily spend most of the game on this island and it would still work out for you. Especially considering how easy it is to manipulate Bowser, the only bad outcome is Game Guy and Red Spaces
A fun change in mario party superstars is how the trees work, instead of giving you the movement based fruits every time it is now woody giving you neither and evil woody (the wiki calls them evil woody and I don't know how to spell what you called them) will give you BOTH.

I had a two-part method for Messy Memory that seemed to be fairly consistent whenever I played the game: caps and colors. First, since there's always a Mario cap, a Luigi cap, and a Wario cap, and they were readily recognizable, I always memorized where they were from the get. I then used those as primary markers in my head, and used my "background memory" to notice the colors around them. This game uses three dominant colors: RED (Mario's cap, DK's tie, the mushroom, and the Fly Guy), YELLOW (Wario's cap, the banana bunch, Peach's crown, and the hammer), and GREEN (Luigi's cap and Yoshi's egg). There's no way around the fact that these colors tend to bunch up - there will always be a red or yellow cluster somewhere on the board, and since there are only two green items, you can use the egg as a marker as well.
Very interesting method of memorization. Someone else that commented mentioned that they memorized the caps and everything around them as well. Must be due to how their shapes are all very familiar and similar to one another. Cool stuff!

I didn’t know this series until I found it. I’m not even a big fan of Mario party but it’s so cool to see it in such a way that breaks it apart to make it make sense. Still can't believe you're putting this much effort into a single video. I mean, 200 minutes straight, explaining a single game? That takes a level of dedication that is very hard to come by. hi just wanted to say that the diagonal moving pattern you use for non-game-footage visuals is perfect in such a way that when i was daydreaming and my eyes were looking past the screen no longer focusing on it the image of the background didn't blur and it made it look like it with further in the background than the visuals in the foreground and it was like the 3DS 3D effect i am also sleep deprived

Side note: for Aces high, my strategy is follow behind people and shoot them normally, that tends to win me the minigame so fast that bullet bills are not even a problem for me... Try that out! Yeah I just realized the hours (if you round down the numbers) of each "Identifying Luck" videos is directly linked to which Mario Party he's talking about lol.
MP7 is going be a monstet. It has the normal boards, the "solo" boards that has slightly different layouts and can be play with 2 people, and the 8 player mode that mess with dice blocks. Then you have board spefific goals and items, and finally you have character specific items. Luckily there not to many mini games.
If that's true, then just wait till 5, 6, and 7 arrive on the scene.
I doubt it will be that long. It has less minigames to go over in that one compared to Mario Party 3. Sure there are new board events in that one including board unique ones but they could all only take up so much time even factoring in the item lineup.

Mario Party 3 is by far the most enticing for strategic play with added item slots and items. As well as the skeleton key door bouncing you mentioned. Glad to hear a lot of other people adore this game!

Why can't we have all 3 games on virtual console? I'm not a big fan of the first game, but that's mainly because some minigames could have used some polish. We don't use rock hard N64 analog sticks anymore.
I can't even begin to tell you how difficult it was to get a copy of Mario Party 3 on an actual N64. I managed to get one last year for £75. I was only able to do that thanks to my homemade comics making decent money at my college. I'm glad I did because alongside the second game, it's easily the peak of N64 multiplayer gaming, and still holds up really well which is something I can't say about most Nintendo 64 games.
I'm not sure if I would call it the most underrated though. It's generally considered a high point by those who played it (most at least). That and 6 and 7 are arguably just as good and don't get as much attention.

MP1 not being ported is because of that N64 lawsuit. Nintendo doesn't want to risk it again. That being said, Gamepad and Classic Controller C-sticks don't have the same issue the N64 stick did, and worst case scenario, control stick spinners can be changed to AB Alternative Mashers.

@@zoomzike it could possibly be the fact of a misplacement of the bowser doll since Waluigi is tall, and probably makes it awkward to squat his legs and make it look realistic enough to spin. so he doesnt go down far enough to be at the same height as the other characters. but thats just my guess on why that might be.
My record on that minigame is 95.7 with waluigi, and I never do as well with anyone else so I’m sure he’s right

Autobot Starscream Bingo. My problem is that in reducing the board size, they limit what each board is capable of showing off. Even if the dice roll is reduced (which is hardly a fix since getting extra dice from allies is as easy as walking forward, plus several characters able to reach up to 10 on their custom dice anyway), there’s still 40 fewer spaces for... anything. Events, visual spectacle, special spaces, alternative routes... and 56 spaces is the size of three of the boards, while the final unlockable board is around 26 instead, and that’s just ridiculously small even if you don’t have partner dice.
I actually refused to buy a star in the boo board in MP4, I was last on the last turn, and used the magic lamp. I was 1stars bellow the first player (everyone else were out of the picture), and He had more coins (the bonus stars were of). Now, I didn’t buy the star, but took a risk of hitting a good roll to get to the boo, who I couldn’t afford alongside the star. I actually got to the boo stole a star, and won, that was litteraly the only time O hav not bought a star

Yeah, stealing a Star is better than buying one, because it is +2 than +1 advantage, and if you only have 50-69 coins you're probably better off declining that Star Space.

Having watched over 50 hours of competitive Mario Party 3 and breaking the game open, the Chain Chomp Game Guy Minigame operates with each chomp having a 1/multiplier chance of eating a piece of cake each bite. If the multipliers were 2x and 64x, then the 2x chomp has a 50% chance to eat a piece with each bite, while the 64x chomp has a 0.015625% chance to eat a piece with each bite. As it takes 3-4 bites to finish the cake, the odds multiply against themselves. It's nigh impossible for the 16x, 32x, or 64x, to win. I always take the 2x chomp, with only the 4x swaying me in situations where I don't have many coins to lose.
The fact that competitive Mario Party is even a thing is hilarious to me.
The transitions into the next mini games are flawless.

You forgot to point out the most crucial thing about Chilly Waters: The fact that the TCNation has enslaved the snowmen.
On the bottom where the start and bank space are, snowmen are rising from the ground, hoping to start a new life, only for some penguins to rip the first snowman’s head off because they wanna play soccer with it.
Behind the item shop, one penguin is catching a tan while a snowman is dying, with another penguin calling the source of the light causing said snowman to die.
Above the happening space, about 5 penguins are skiing on the snowmen’s corpses (at least I think it’s their corpses).
And finally, in the icy 5-way junction, that breaks when two people are on it, 4 penguins forced a snowman to catch their dinner!
TL;DR, TCNick3 has invaded and conqured Montana! With penguins as the oppressors!

FYI, Stacked Deck is not the same situation as Bowser's Big Blast - the initial order DOES matter. Several years ago I worked out the (approximate) probabilities of winning from each starting position:
1st: 19.8%
2nd: 23.1%
3rd: 26.5%
4th: 30.6%
The reason why this is different is fairly straightforward, actually: the Boos. Once a Boo is drawn, every player still in has an equal probability of winning because they're shuffled into a random order. If, for example, player 3 picks a Boo on their first turn, then player 4 is guaranteed to still be in, while players 1 and 2 did have to risk it. It adds up to a pretty significant advantage for the players who go later.

Here's an excel spreadsheet with possibly way too much information, including probabilities for each player to finish in each place.
I guess a more convincing argument for why the probabilities aren't equal is this: think about last place instead of first. If the order didn't matter, then each player should have a 25% chance of coming in last, but the first player has a 33% (4/12) chance of getting Baby Bowser on the first card and coming in 4th without the other players doing anything. In fact, the first player has an overall ~41% chance of coming in last, more likely than them placing 1st or 2nd combined.
The main reason Bowser's Big Blast is fair and Stacked Deck isn't is simple: when every player's picked a plunger in BBB, the plungers reset and re-randomize. In SD, the cards never re-randomize. In BBB, if two players remain, every bomb has a 1/3 chance of eliminating the first player, a 1/3 chance of eliminating the second player, and a 1/3 chance of eliminating nobody and being replaced with another bomb. Without the latter mechanic, the first player would lose 2/3 of the time.

I remember, on Chilly Waters, there was a Star Space that activated soon after the goal, which made the ice safety space really close to it. Seeing as I had >20 coins and the opponent on the ice didn't, I pullei the kamikaze tactic for a win-win!
I always used the dueling glove when another player was fighting me for the coin star. If we both had 80-90 coins I would duel them for everything they had, usually taking them for all they were worth and setting the coin star bar so high it was impossible for anyone else to ever hope to reach it even if I lost all my coins somehow.
That's a good point! Changes my perspective on the dueling glove a little.
@@zoomzike To be fair, I usually didn't go out of my way to get the glove, but if I happened to get it, that's what I would use it for. Even if I was at say 90 coins and the next highest person was at 45. 45 coins in one go is a lot, that's two Boos' worth of coins at once. The other time I'd use it was if someone was close to the star and I wanted to keep them from it but I wasn't near enough to Boo. Or if one person couldn't play I would use it to destroy the computer. It was embarrassing to allow the computer to win so the three of us left would band together to defeat them at all costs. If I'm honest I think the bonus stars were the best balancing factor in this version. Made the game feel quite a bit more skill based both on decision making and the minigames.

One advice you could elaborate on in future videos is probability distribution when using a red or golden mushroom:
When you roll two dice, it's much more likely to get a number around 10 while on a 3-dice-roll, you are more likely to get a result around 15. It's something you can keep in mind if there is a specific space you are aiming for certain spaces that are exactly 10/15 spaces away.
The timing for the Thwomps has always been the most finicky board mechanic in this game since the timing is surprisingly tight. Also, Waluigi Island's random left island is one of the few times where grinding chance times is an option especially with 2 star spaces on this island you could easily spend most of the game on this island and it would still work out for you. Especially considering how easy it is to manipulate Bowser, the only bad outcome is Game Guy and Red Spaces

A fun change in mario party superstars is how the trees work, instead of giving you the movement based fruits every time it is now woody giving you neither and evil woody (the wiki calls them evil woody and I don't know how to spell what you called them) will give you BOTH.

I had a two-part method for Messy Memory that seemed to be fairly consistent whenever I played the game: caps and colors. First, since there's always a Mario cap, a Luigi cap, and a Wario cap, and they were readily recognizable, I always memorized where they were from the get. I then used those as primary markers in my head, and used my "background memory" to notice the colors around them.
This game uses three dominant colors: RED (Mario's cap, DK's tie, the mushroom, and the Fly Guy), YELLOW (Wario's cap, the banana bunch, Peach's crown, and the hammer), and GREEN (Luigi's cap and Yoshi's egg). There's no way around the fact that these colors tend to bunch up - there will always be a red or yellow cluster somewhere on the board, and since there are only two green items, you can use the egg as a marker as well.
Very interesting method of memorization. Someone else that commented mentioned that they memorized the caps and everything around them as well. Must be due to how their shapes are all very familiar and similar to one another. Cool stuff!

I didn’t know this series until I found it. I’m not even a big fan of Mario party but it’s so cool to see it in such a way that breaks it apart to make it make sense. hi just wanted to say that the diagonal moving pattern you use for non-game-footage visuals is perfect in such a way that when i was daydreaming and my eyes were looking past the screen no longer focusing on it the image of the background didn't blur and it made it look like it with further in the background than the visuals in the foreground and it was like the 3DS 3D effect

Well here we are in 2023 and you have your wish! It's back baby! Are you happy with the return with the switch? Loving these by the way! First time viewer here and on to the Mario Party 4 video I go! Side note: for Aces high, my strategy is follow behind people and shoot them normally, that tends to win me the minigame so fast that bullet bills are not even a problem for me... Try that out! (I have other strats for other minigames but that is the one at the top of my head after watching this whole thing)
