Thanks for the brilliant review I now have this game sitting beside me waiting to be devoured. I have had World at War sitting on my shelf for years I read the rules once but due to it size and complexity have never been able to bring it to table. World at War is an amazing game and I have wanted to play a strategic Wargame that covers all of WWII for many years but now Unconditional Surrender looks set to finally fill this space. So glad to have been made aware of this game.
Another great review! I have noticed this game over the years and was also afraid it would be too much to handle, but now I'm thinking maybe yes. The 3rd printing is in the P500 section at GMT as I type this so perhaps I'll see it under the Xmas tree in 2022:)
What an enthusiastic way to finish the year Marco. Your other "island" game is Thunderbolt Apache Leader, right, so a nice combination of tactical and strategic. I always enjoy watching them!:) Would you suggest this game to a non-wargamer who is actually looking for a game about WWII that gives depth and quite realistic but that can be proposed also to occasional players? I was looking either to this title or triumph and tragedy. Would you suggest one of these 2 or do you have maybe other titles I can look up?
Blimey Marco you are having a bit of a bromance with this game! Cant agree more though its a modern classic and will definitely divide opinion. For my part I love it. Hope this system will see development into other theatres/periods it definitely makes the hobby a bit more accessible. Events on cards perhaps?

I am also a little scared by the rules. I am a gamer, I play Puerto Rico, Agricola, Twilight Struggle and many other eurogames. I also play some light wargames such as Conflict of Heroes. Do you think I could enjoy Unconditional Surrender? I am also intrigued by Paths of Glory. Would POG be a more suitable wargame to begin with? Thanks in advance, sincerely GG
Having read the rules for Triumph & Tragedy (have not played it) ... T&T seems much simpler. In fact, so simple that I put the rules away and decided not to bother. I couldn't help comparing it with Days of Decision and thinking it was lacking everything which was fun. Unconditional Surrender seems more interesting. - about to try it.
I cant believe they still make paper game boards , great brake out the scotched tape .😒 looks like I'll need a magnifyglass too🔎. I'll just stick too axis n allies , breathing on the game wont move my pieces. 😤
