Shadow: "Ugh, fine!" *crawls the maze-like ARK looking for the researchers, eventually manages to help them all* Researchers: *get shot and killed anyway* Shadow: "... NOW can we go?"
I love the feeling that the two memory stages give off through the ost. They're both very different, but so fitting for what they were each going for. Lost Impact's slow piano was pure melancholy. Shadow is suddenly reliving a memory on the ARK with Maria. There's no major level of urgency outside of Maria's request, so Shadow is taking in the experience, trying to prolong the time he has with Maria just that little bit longer, but he knows it's only a memory, and no matter how much he wants otherwise, it is inevitebly going to end. He doesn't want to let go just yet, but knows he has to. The Doom is completely different. Shadow is forced to relive the most horrible day of his life: The day he lost Maria forever. He is desperately running through the ARK, keeping as tight a grip as he can on Maria to keep ahead of the GUN troops, and while he knows that this is a memory, a part of him is hoping in vain that he will not only keep ahead of them, but somehow manage to change events and save her life. This is Shadow's final desperate attempt to defy fate and give Maria the chance to live. I'd say that this is kinda reflected a little in the missions too, like he's faced with multiple ways of trying to go about this. He can rush with Maria straight to a safe place and focus on her safety, make an attempt to save others aboard the ARK and try to have at least someone survive, or just fight off the GUN forces himself to keep them off of everyone's back. He sees multiple different opportunities and hopes that picking the right option will somehow change things, but nothing works. No matter what he does, he can't save her, but he's still not able to accept that yet.
Great analysis! I wonder if the neutral mission of Lost Impact leads to Shadow feeling guilty about doing nothing to stop the Artificial Chaos and making GUN step in, possibly making them consider shutting down the Ark. It would tie in nicely with Shadow's guilt in both endings of Cosmic Fall. All that's left is for Shadow to confirm his creation as the final catalyst for the GUN raid or to remain ignorant and only know that the Ark is his home.
It does make me wonder: Did Black Doom embellish Shadow's past by adding Heavy Dog to goad Shadow into giving into violence? OR Was GUN genuinely just _that_ terrified of Gerald's project that they brought in the heavy artillery just to make damn sure that the finished form of Project Shadow was successfully destroyed?
@@markusmccloud Honestly, I feel like either is entirely possible. It's definitely not above Black Doom to embellish events in order to further build Shadow's hatred for humanity and drive him against them. On the flip side, some have suggested that the Commander was the one who warned Earth about Gerald's experiments after witnessing Shadow's birth at the hands of Gerald and Black Doom as a child, so GUN could very well have taken the idea of 2 potential monsters seriosuly enough that they felt that sending Heavy Dog was necessary.
@@DanishThePenguin Could be. I don't think he was the one who told them though. He was a child when everything happened. His parents or his guardian perhaps? As far as I remember, he doesn't mention that event didn't happen or seemed surprised by it. He even looked annoyed at first and later furious after talking to Black Doom. That's why I believe the fight actually happened, but it could've been changed somehow by Black Doom. Maybe the missils were added to make it look more menacing to Maria's safety and pushing him to fight back. That would definitely instigue Shadow's hatred for humans.

I actually quite liked Lost Impact. I felt it was pretty chill and cool. And since I could just look on the walls to see the map and determine where I have to go before I continue, it was pretty easy to find all the Artificial Chaos. The Doom can kiss my ass and suck my left nut, though. The entire place is a maze, trying to find all of the injured scientists is a goddamn chore, getting out of the place is a hassle, the bossfight afterwards sucks ass, and the Dark Mission is genuinely broken. But he said the place was destroyed a while ago. Silver: Then this must be the Ark at least 50 years in the past! This isn't right! We gotta find some way to go back to Sonic's current time!
Shadow: ... Rouge: Shadow, is this..? Omega: This is a 50 years ago when the ARK was still functional, but only a memory not real. Shadow: let's go already

I can hear that. Sounds a little like twilight sniping
@@rokosro2076 One of my favorite tracks from that game!
Tbh this is such an amazing piece, truly odd that it’s not on the Spotify ost for this game tho
Also I’ve been using this song so much in SXS Gens lmao
Yeah, I came back here because of Sonic Central.
SAME
Third!
same
I love how every game from 2005 (even licensed kid games) just happen to have the most insanely 2000's soundtracks and all of them rock
I still got lost in this level just as much as I did in Lost Impact
The bit where Shadow remembers Maria's death and then Maria is suddenly replaced with Black Doom is so eerie...
AstroTom
I bet Black Doom pretended to be Maria or have her fade to mess with Shadow's head.
@@katelynthewhitewerewolf6376 agreed
@@AstroTom
Yeah very eerie and I imagine a Shadow the Hedgehog 2 sequel game where Shadow's death scene animations are more brutal sad and dark but not bloody although it can have a bloody squish sound that happens when he's hit.
@@AstroTom
Yeah and we could use more flashback locations in videogames and in The Sonic Series for Shadow.
Fun Fact: You can control Maria if you put a 2nd controller in
Soundtrack 10/10.
Agreed
"Determine your route in advance with the map"
Y'know, for how bad Black Doom is as a character, I gotta admit he makes a fantastic guide. In fact, his advice has been the most useful for me throughout the whole game.
@@KingKayro87"Go down."
"Go up."
"Shadow, use that."
"Shadow, where are you going?"
He's more direct than everyone else, too. Very stern and demanding, but helpful
"Welcome to your doom!"
*Altered Beast flashbacks
That overdriven electric piano 👌
its 2022 and its still a bop!!!
2023 still a bop
Timeless song
i loved the sound and the flow of this soundtrack on this game when i used to play it, back in the day.
Best Soundtrack Video Ever!
The one hero mission where you have to find the artificial chaos to me half an hour cos of this last one.
Turns out it was hidden away on that track right after Maria said to keep an eye out...
There’s something unsettling about this level that creeps me out. It’s not the music but the music adds onto it. It’s what doom eye says through out the level.
This song reminds me of being an astronaut exploring the galaxy and solar system and stars and moon!!!!
My favorite of the whole OST
This song oddly reminds me of some of the tunes from Sonic Shuffle
same
This would be a nice track for a training mode in a fighting game... kinda reminds me of the song that plays in the Skullgirls training room.
This is what _always_ pops into my brain when I think of the word “Doom”.
What about the game series 'Doom' 😂
Hold on to your hatred
For whatever reason it sounds like a much more chill "Yell Dead Cell"
This is my favourite stage just because of the music
This has no business slapping this hard.
"Hold on to your hatred."
This is so addictive
"shadow is an edgelord game" then when you hear the ost, most of it doesn't even have a guitar in it. i dont care, this game has a special place in my heart. it was like sonic heroes, but with all the bugs fixed.....well most of the bugs fixed
Even when the guitar is used in tracks, it really helps set the tone. My favorite example is GUN Fortress, where the song instead of being fast and chaotic it's a medium paced depressing song. It REALLY helps set the vibe for "last level of the bad ending"
@@joobtheboob
I like Shadow the Hedgehog too we need a Shadow the Hedgehog 2 sequel game.
This is the best stage musically
Sonic Central anyone?
What he says at the end of the dark mission perfectly describes my first time trying to beat this level😂
I remember wasting time looking for all of the scientists in expert mode only to realize they were all in the same room at the end
I have this as my menu theme in L4D2. Now whenever I hear this, I think of that game
This and Lost Impact are the only stages I truly couldn’t stand. At least the music didn’t annoy me.
Like seriously, sometimes the GUN soldiers won't even spawn and I have to go back and forth between checkpoints to get a chance at killing them.
Some of the tracks in this game with less guitar actually remind me a lot of the Sonic OVA ost!
I have finally found it... about time MR. SEA1997 not telling me
i did too lol
Context?
lol i beat the game ages ago but got it when it first came out.. was stuck on this level for like 5 years not kidding XD
Same. I just did the straightforward mission.
Metal Gear Solid 2 vibes🔥
I forgot you can explore outside of the ark if you have 5 secret keys and a switch
honestly I never really expected a game like this to tackle liquid drum n bass and do it well but here we are
Can't wait to play the Shadow generation remaster version
Just like naming a dog Terminator. this song is very chill and calm
SPACE COLONY ARK /// FOURTH
THE DOOM
I finally found this
Gives me a Toonami vibe
Everyone hates those artificial chaos enemys
Liquid DnB in a game about midlife crisis hedgehogs wielding firearms
I watched maria glitch onto the bodies and walk sideways
Unpopular Opinion: I like the stages with Maria.
Me too especially Lost Impact
this song reminds me of shadow the hedgehog
OMG same
I wish they make more games like this
Is it true that you can hear Biolizard in the background of this level? If so, which spot (if in a specific spot)?
Marquis Banks idk sorry!!
But if I find something about it I will tell you!!
That would have been awesome to see gun trying to retain the biolizard while you ran throught the leval
I don’t even remember where I heard that from tbh 😅
That would be such a cool easter egg
Why is this not on Spotify 😐
This sounds like a song from an Adult Swim bumper.
Ha, I said Toonami!
jesus, since when did flying lotus do the ost
Lmao nah fr
Sonic Heroes 2 Dialogue:
Knuckles: What the heck is going on?
Tails: It appears we're at the Space Colony Ark, But only 50 years ago.
Sonic: So this is where Shadow... Uh oh we gotta keep moving.
Marine: Wow look at all this high tech stuff! Do you guys think this can fetch a pretty penny on the high seas?
Blaze: This area appears to be the Ark, the place Shadow told us about earlier.
I’m telling Ye & Ty to sample this.
Here after the new Sonic x Shadow Generations trailer. If a remix of this makes it in somehow... I'll shit bricks.
Edit: It's not in is it? Looked it up and... that's like the only thing that appears. Man, that's sad. I would've loved a remix...
Considering this is the only playable instance of Shadow's tragedy, it had better. It's very important
@@FlipSide-kw6ij True that!
@@Adeyum64 I mean it played several times in the Sonic Central today, so that's good enough for me
This track played on bully when you played one of the arcade games
GTA Bully?
@@shadowclonemaster Yeah
Woah what, I used to dislike this track and haven't heard it since like 2009 but I immediately started bobbing my head to it hearing it now :Y
Cause it's from an Ark level
That motherfucking level... I hate this level! I lost so many lives in this level!
Lives my ass, more like time!!!
Time, and lives. I lost myself during what seemed to be hours... AND... I died too many times.
***** This is also true..
***** Right...
cooperclan13 a
The intro reminds me alot of Cashmere cannonball from no more heroes
Ever heard of it?
I thought I was the only one who thought that, I fucking love that track
I can definitely see Hotsuma slashing the undead Oboro clan to this with the Akujiki...
This would be perfect monkey ball level music
Funny enough, when playing "the doom" on Sonic Speed Sim, I expected this to play and not the black doom theme
this is some photek type shit… i love it.
Aah, yes, the level I still have yet to complete.
Damn the memories
Please be in SxS Generations
I LITERALLY found out about this song BECAUSE of sonic x shadow generations lol
You got your wish its in the game
lol this track got me into Jungle music
Bomberman music
Sounds like something made for a Toonami bump
