In windsurfing, that stance is known as “the 7 position.” Arms extended, shoulders back, legs and back strong and extended but not completely locked. You need some flexibility to absorb chop, which won’t be so much an issue with foiling

Hi, bravo for your videos, they are excellent. I just started wingfoil I bought Duotone foil wing slick. I am 82kg and 180cm height I found RRD hydrofoil WH KSH SET 25 with 85cm Must , from a friend in a good price. I need to know if this fits me not just for now or for a just another summer?
I would recommend skis or ice skates at first. The more firm the ground is, the easier it is to move and learn the wing. Powder you will need more power in the wing! As for a wing size, biggest I would go is 6m as the wingtips start catching..... Maybe 5m is a good size to start? The new Cabrinha X3 would be a great wing! I hope this helps.

Great tips. Some advice please... I have a double agent foil set up. I’m around 220 pounds. Which wing size should I get? Is the double agent the right board for wing foiling or should I get a bigger volume board and keep the double agent just for kiting?
Shaun, The double agent unfortunately will not work you need a way bigger board. I would recomend a 100 plus liter board.... the 5'4 Macro or even the XFLY 7'6 150L board.....
@@DamienLeroyTH-cam Thanks a lot. Ive bought most of my gear from the store in Fort Lauderdale. I'll contact Sergio there. Will keep watching your vids man. Cheers

@@KjetilBalstad I see, It is still doable will just need a puff/gust and you are up then the magic happens on the foil as you are so efficient. A kite would be challenging as it will want to fall out of the sky. A wing you just wait till the wind comes and go again! :)
Now I’ve been playing the sup game for a couple seasons and racking up about 10miles a session…now I want to play with a wing…Would you recommend just getting a foil or trying it with a sup for a while?
I think a massive tip that nobody talks about that you should highlight is keeping the board facing AWAY from the inside of the wing. Basically keep the front of the board facing right at the leading edge of the wing. That way you really don’t even need to pump a lot and you get a lot of stable power. When should you start the correction ? Obviously before loosing all power. I have a hard time knowing when to start the transition from going too far upwind, to starting to get back downwind. Any other tips to prevent this from happening ?
Tim it just takes time and it will all start to fall into place... Its more of a balance issue and you will fine tune it every time you get up. Try to breath and relax your arms when you get up on foil so you are not pulling in to hard, and or are staying to stiff. Hope that helps...
In the bonus tip you say there’s most power going downwind but then why does Kelly lose power when going downwind - because you don’t hold wing directly in front of you?
To different things Kelly heading down wind is like moving away from the wind and canceling some of its force. Turning up wind you need to keep sheting in the the wing more and more to keep the power turn up to much and you can't sheet in and you lose power Hope that helps
You have to tack and jive because you can’t go upwind but why Kelly loses power going downwind is that you need opposing force in a different direction so you can balance on the forces canceling each other out.
Poet, Maybe a misunderstanding..... Elliot said it best. To different things Kelly heading down wind is like moving away from the wind and canceling some of its force. Hi, Thank you for your wonderful explanation, I'm a beginner, weight 70kg, height 180cm, I want to buy Naish S26 HOVER WING FOIL CARBON ULTRA 60l and 2020 JET | SURF COMPLETE FS-01050 and S26 WING-SURFER S26FW-22OR 3.6. Is it ok? Please give me some advice if you have time. thanks.
Hi! Thanks for the kind words! A 60L board and 1050 foil is a pretty advanced set up, not recommended for a beginner. Depending on your water sports experience, we would recommend at least 95L board, and a foil around 2000 cm2 especially if you have no prior foiling experience. It will make your progression so much faster than with the set up you mentioned. For the wing, it has to be very windy to be able to use a 3.6m wing. Not sure where you live, but we usually recommend a 5 or 6m to learn. Hope this helps!
@@DamienLeroyTH-cam Thank you for your quick reply, it was so useful to me! Thank you very much, if I didn't have your professional advice, I might have made the wrong purchase. I live in Maryland, and I often go to VA beach, outer bank beach ocaen city beach, do you think 4.6 wing is ok? Do you have a good brand or website to recommend? I will follow your suggestion to choose the equipment, thanks again!
You're welcome, glad we can help! We would recommend a 5m at first, then maybe a 6 or 7m later if you want to go in lighter winds, and a 4m if you want to go in stronger winds. Cabrinha has some great gear, that's what we ride. Check out the links in the description of the video, we have a discount code if you want to use it. You will love this sport no doubt!
@@americanclassicalyoungmusi4330Check out adventuresportsusa.com/?ref=DAMO and support us and the TH-cam channel! Get 5% off any gear using discount code DAMO5 I recommend a 6'2 mantis wing, Cabrinha wing for light winds 15- 25 mph...... The 4.6 wing is smallish, has to be windy 20 plus if you are a beginner.
How would you comment this situation: I'm goofy-footed on skateboards, snowboards and so forth, so naturally on the foil board I would expect to do better when goofy as well but.. I do much better with switch stance (faster speed, going upwind better, getting on the foil better). I pretty much always have to have the walk of shame if going back the direction where I would go with a goofy stance. Also, how would you compare powering up the wing when it's 6m2 versus 4m2? I have 6m2 and have never powered it enough to get on the foil. Only way I can do it is when the wind is strong enough and the angle of the wing is just right.
Whatever direction you are struggling with, there is always one! Always a bad side, it just takes repetition to get over it. Sad to say these wind sports only work with the proper conditions sometimes with your 4m or 6m. Just because a 6m should work in 10 knots when you're first learning, it may take a lot more wind because your ability is not quite there yet, so it may be 15-18 knots. Don't worry, you''ll get it and I have done my fair share of walk of shames friend!
Hi Damien I'm a heavy (98kg) but experienced sup-, foil-, kite- and windsurfer that wants to start wing foiling. I already have ordered a 144 ltr. wing foil board and own a 6m2 wing/sail. What size foil would you recommend... Mast length and front wing surface area? Would a Cabrinha hi:rise varial large foil with 65 cm mast, 75 cm fuselage do the job? Or is it too small to start with? Love to hear from you!
Ron, Happy to try and help! I would recommend the New 1950 Fusion from Cabrinha or a wing over the 2000 in size.. LIFT FOILS would be a 250HA or bigger. The Varial is a great wing but for your size you will want and need more wind to use it. It can work I actually really like it but not your learning wing unless you have wind! Not your light wind set up.... Mast 70cm is a fine size to start with..... I hope this helps...
I fly RC planes and real planes and I learned how to hydro foil wing surf in one day 5 hours that's it I was riding. All it is about is lift and glide it all works like a airplane and gliders

As well as Layer, You have to tack and jive because you can’t go upwind but why Kelly loses power going downwind is that you need opposing force in a different direction so you can balance on the forces canceling each other out. Thanks everyone.....
Great!

Hi, Thank you for your wonderful explanation, I'm a beginner, weight 70kg, height 180cm, I want to buy Naish S26 HOVER WING FOIL CARBON ULTRA 60l and 2020 JET | SURF COMPLETE
FS-01050 and S26 WING-SURFER
S26FW-22OR 3.6.

I recommend a 6'2 mantis wing, Cabrinha wing for light winds 15- 25 mph...... The 4.6 wing is smallish, has to be windy 20 plus if you are a beginner.
Hey dumb question.... Can I fill this thing with helium?
You can but does not really work to have it fly by it self.. :)
Don't worry, you''ll get it and I have done my fair share of walk of shames friend!
thank you! :)
Thank you
Hi Damien
I'm a heavy (98kg) but experienced sup-, foil-, kite- and windsurfer that wants to start wing foiling.
@@DamienLeroyTH-cam Thanks for your recommendation Damien. And keep up the good work with all these instruction movies... Really useful!
@@RonKolijn Thank you Ron....
Can i island hop with it
100% easy to travel with.
So is pumping the mistake, or not pumping?
Not pumping my friend.....
Leaving your wing on the ground in that position is a bad idea!! But it’s your wing so do whatever you want with it!!
Very true but anchored in works great! :)
How do you like it compared to kite surfing?
I fly RC planes and real planes and I learned how to hydro foil wing surf in one day 5 hours that's it I was riding. All it is about is lift and glide it all works like a airplane and gliders
Impressive buddy! Congrats! SO EPIC....
No. 5 has been my most frequent mistake I am making... 😒😞.. Downwind too much... (Windsurfing and kitesurfing are so much easier!! 🙄..)
You will get it friend! It will come.... We believe in you!
@@DamienLeroyTH-cam where are you teaching these days?
@@Tobeon2 Really just on TH-cam. :) Just trying to help everyone.
6º COMMON MISTAKE. You dont use protection equipment. Where is the helmet and impact vest??
We recommend it friend for learning yes, in the beginning but as you get better it is everyones choice to use it or not.... Have a great day!
@@DamienLeroyTH-cam you are making very good tutorial videos, which are viewed by thousands of people, but I think you should pay more attention to the security aspects.
Have a great day and continues with the good work
@@Adriano_Coutinho Thank you for the note... We will keep that in mind.....
Number One: Buy a Wing
Number Two: Buy a huge windsurf size board
Number Three: Buy a Foil for that huge Board.
Number Four: Get all that in the water
Number Five: Tell your friends you are trying this new thing that's like wind surfing but isn't like wind surfing but has a wind sail thing that you use to power a board without having a pole attached to the board like a wind surf mast.
Hi, I’m a water sports avid 30 years ago. Now at 76 years young, do you think I can still do it? If yes, what is the best gear that you can recommend. Thanks
Emil, 100% you can do it! Might take longer and will be challenging but you can do it! There is a lot to this questions. Feel free to join our Patreon and I can go more in depth!

Good stuff. Bonus tip #7: wear a helmet.

Bloody awful presentation. Mistake number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, ....
Damien.. just shut up! Let Kelly talk! She has more charisma, she is relatable. She can explain better.. Please just let her speak!! Go grab yourself a coffee or rum or something..
You definitely are a great guy, good surfer and all but you have this precious asset beside you and you just don't let her shine. She is soooo much more interesting than you are.. Sorry, but there are enough guys wingfoiling.. your experience is not special. Hers is!
I just got a 5m foil kite for my 40th birthday I’ve never surfed but I’m going to try on my paddle board and see how it goes before I SLASH THE CASH on a board also🤞🏽🫣😂😂😂
Your going to love it!
