Back in the days when an M1 carbine could be had for less than 100 dollars. I was at the range with a coworker of mine. He showed me one of his carbines. I do not remember the exact serial number. It was a Winchester serial number 1,001,8XX. It looked like it was used every day from that first day and would keyhole at 50 yds. The stock was an I cut in terrible shape. But what did you do in those days. Traded it in for a better shooting gun. I wish i bought it from him. I wonder where it is now?
