Truly appreciate your videos, Jim. I understand the advantages of IDGTs. The major disadvantage I think is, a highly appreciating asset (such as real property) will NOT get a step up in basis upon thr grantor's death, since IDGT assets get to be excluded from grantor's estate. So the beneficiary are kinda screwed, in terms of inheriting a presumably much lower basis which means much higher potential capital gains, much lower potential depreciation expense if rented, to say nothing of significantly higher property taxes due to Prop 19. Is the ANY way out of this??

Sometimes. If the grantor of the IDGT retains the power swap property of equal value then it may be possible to mitigate this downside. When the grantor retains a “swap power” it’s usually best to have an Independent Trustee serve as trustee. Hope this helps! here is my take on all of this, enjoy the money you made over the years and after your death what ever you left behind those who received it should be great full no matter how little or a lot it is. Why worry about what happened to material things after your death? Life’s short enjoy it, paying these guys to avoid tax is a waste of time and energy
