    The fig in the thumbnail looks like a skull 💀 😀 so cool. The drizzle is nice and the figs are looking great 👍

    If you know a cattle owner, figs go bonkers with cow manure. It make for real vigor, more pruning, but earlier fall ripening.
    I shed a few tears seeing the leaves fall and all those figs, but with manure, pruning in spring I get a hefty 2nd crop to ripen.

      Thanks! I have two chickens and feed all my trees with their manure. The vigor on fig trees in our climate is unreal. I generally have to take about 60-70% off each year to keep them at a manageable size and the fruit in picking range and even then it's around 14' tall by fall or the end of the growing season.

      @@EnlightenmentGarden what are your suggestions re, I'm pruning my very large fig trees, 3 varieties.
      Can I propagate the tips of the branches this time of year? They have about shed all there leaves, just the immature figs left.
      I was thinking of putting them on a heat mat, I'm thinking doing my orchard pruning starting after Christmas. Thanks

    Bay Area 9B. My Red Leb, Smith and Pastilliere are nowhere near ripe 🥺haven’t even started swelling yet. The Smith is 2nd year graft on Blk Mission, the other two are 1st year rootings. We just don’t get the degree days here that you do down in the desert still i’m hoping they’ll bear earlier as the mature 👋

      Your trees are young--maturity does seem to help out with consistency and heavier/earlier crops. It's been hot here! It is amazing how fast they ripen. I inspect the trees daily and it seems they sometimes plump up overnight. It's a race to get them before the birds.

    I started growing figs here in the valley after seeing your channel. Second year in ground for Black Mission fig and tree is big with lush green leaves but total of 3 figs. I didn't prune the first year as the tree was very small and also didn't fertilize it till now as read that figs don't need any fertilizer. Any idea what I might be doing wrong as I see many other folks with their trees full of fruits?

      Black Mission can be a little shy to bear when it is young. Mine really started producing a large crop at 3-4 years in ground. Since you mention the tree has put on size, I don't think fertilizer is needed as it has energy. A trick is you can pinch/break off the apical buds to encourage more fruit to form versus allowing it to focus on vegetative growth. I practice that on my panache tree and get lots of fruit as a result. If I don't do it, the tree just grows tall and wide

    I have a question. Why do some of the figs that are ripe taste fermented? Opposed to sweet. Am I picking too late or what’s going on?!

    • @EnlightenmentGarden

      Figs can spoil if you let them over-ripen. Try picking a little earlier. If they are souring even before fully ripening you could have an issue with bugs contaminating them with bacteria. Do you see any insects on your figs or in them? If so, you could try dusting the tree with food grade diatomaceous earth to kill off the insects/protect your fruit. I personally see the issue with Bass' Favorite Figs souring from bugs because it has a huge open eye and they get in there. Closed or small eye varieties are much better since they don't offer an entry point to most insects

      @@EnlightenmentGarden interesting! I should grow those smaller/closed eye varieties instead! Do you have any recommendations?!

    Is there a difference between LSU tiger and Pinache tiger or are they the same?

    • @EnlightenmentGarden
      @EnlightenmentGarden  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes; they are completely different fig varieties. I much prefer Panache Tiger
