Holy cow. You make it look it look so damn easy and it’s not😮 Stage one is mind boggling to me- I was 13.25 seconds. The stages sound like a fire fight.
I appreciate it, Keith. My goal with this match was a mental focus the whole time. I was successful in 7/10 stages and learned good data points from the other three. Stage 1 was fun. I shoot those falling steel matches in Copperas Cove, so that is my bread and butter. The ROs were saying all the fast guys were in the 9 sec range and a few PCCs made it to the 8s. So I decided to head for the 8s. The funny thing is I got 8.89 and I had three makeup shots. I could have hit the 7s on that stage. 😆
Knowing what you know now and not when you didn’t - can you give me any advice on how to train to shoot faster ? I know there’s no magic bullet but it’s the way to progress and other than just being wild with my shots I’m at a loss.
This is a great question. There are two key factors that lead to my split speed. 1) Understanding my trigger travel to the point where it's subconscious. 2) Getting knee deep in brass for a few sessions to work on splitting faster using the doubles drill and what I call the "bounce drill". I will try and make a video explaining the bounce drill because it's simple to do but difficult to explain in writing.
I just reread and saw you said, "Shoot faster" do you also mean transitions and shooting targets that you can't just hit with a double tap (one sight picture two trigger pulls)?
Dude what the hell are you doing to get that trigger speed? My hands were so friggen cold I blew every reload and couldn't move the trigger. I had deltas on all those super close targets because I was moving the gun before I could break the shots.
Honestly, the biggest thing was keeping warm. I had thermal layers on including a thermal shirt under another longsleeve, and my jacket is windproof. That keeps tour arms and, subsequently, hands warm. It's natural to tense up in cold. Tension kills splits. To shoot faster, your shooting hand has to be relaxed. Otherwise, your index finger won't move.
Dude I’ve not shot with you in so long I forgot how fast you can pull the trigger. Highly impressive my friend. Thank you for supporting our match. 😊
