Thank you so much!!! This is so helpful!! 🙌🏻💚💯 Time stamps are great but if you skip through you might miss the opportunity to laugh and smile!! I love your humor!!
Thank you for this. Shadow work is so often presented as digging into the darkness, which I think can be a scary and off putting idea to a lot of people. When you frame the work as a form of self love, and a way of bringing parts of ourselves into the light to integrste, it makes the idea of it so much less scary. As always, your videos rock. 😊
True words indeed! It is uncomfortable and hard regardless but as a motivation to start and keep going, framing it positively is definitely helpful 🙂 so glad you enjoy the video!
@@amandahinds6131 same. people can be very closed and the learning curve is so high, especially if you do not come from a wiccan background. A nice cup of tea is 100 percent my happy place! I've been struggling with shadow work for a while now, my default is typically to not think about myself at all. Not really encouraging or accepting myself, but not degrading or critical either. Just pretending I don't exist most of the time. There's a lot of work to be done, thank you for this.
It is really uncomfortable to do - and just with anything we don't want to do, it is really easy to ignore it. But I promise you, that it is soooooo worth it 😊💚
This was great!!! So many shadow work videos I’ve seen strongly discourage shadow work without a therapist and they emphasize how HEAVY and TRAUMATIC is can be and they don’t give the same empowerment you did to handle our own shadows 🖤 Thank you!!!
So happy you liked it! One can definitely do shadow work alone and I highly encourage everyone to do it regularly 🙂 of course, if you want to work on shadows surrounding a heavily traumatic event, a therapist might be good to help you guide through it but for most people, that haven't dealt with anything like that, it is not per se necessary ☺️✨
This was amazing! You really articulated clearly what shadow work is and the steps to take In which to do it. Very helpful, as all this stuff can easily become overwhelming and lead you to say "I quit!" Have guidance like this is really provides WONDEROUS assistance. Thank you, thank you, thank yoooooou!!!
I am so glad you think so!! When I edited the video I though it maybe was too broad as I know a lot of people prefer lots of examples and stuff :D So happy if it helps people with tackling their own shadow work journey . which in itself is already quite overwhelming at times hehe
Oh, I love your videos. Thank you for sharing this with everyone. I have always wanted to do some shadow work on myself. I am a combat veteran with P.T.S.D. and M.S.T. I have done a similar therapy to this. The Veterans Affairs calls it C.P.T. which means Cognitive Processing Therapy. It's pretty intense and it makes you dig into those suppressive memories and is supposed to help you heal. I did heal a little but I still have a long way to go. Thanks again so much and you have really opened my eyes up to other possibilities. I look forward to more of your videos in the future. Sending you lots of light and love. -Blessed Be
I hear you. I too am a vet, have a stress disorder and often become “dysregulated.” I learned the term from a couple of other channels on YT. Counselors were of very limited help to me as well - they seem only focused on short term trauma and visual flashbacks. But learning how to recognize “emotional flashbacks” as they are happening and then learning how to work with the dysregulation has been slowly life changing. A channel I watch, though my trauma was not a childhood thing, is Crappy Childhood Fairy. Anna focuses on Complex PTSD (which results from longterm inescapable trauma) and has great techniques for healing. Therapy in a Nutshell has been helpful as well - her approach is somehow calming but direct. I’m looking forward to seeing how shadow work applies. Blessings to you.
I'm also a female combat veteran and also from a less than ideal family background. Now with a chronic illness, I'm just starting to do shadow work and have not yet scratched the surface. I wish you luck on your journey, Sister. Blessed Be. ❤
Baby witch here, I asked a friend who is established for recommendations for for shadow work to help me through my past traumas so that I can work through them to become the person I was meant to be so I no longer react to a negative with a negative . You were her top recommendation.
I feel very honoured to have been mentioned by your friend - I do hope you found the video helpful! Good luck with your shadow work journey - it is uncomfortable but so worth it 💚
@@Thewitchescookery maybe I should 😂 dealing with raw onion can be quite an experience. Sharing some of my go-to coping mechanisms could come in handy!
not sure if talking if your inner "child" would count as shadow work, but i did it the other day and it was a total eye opener. i didnt realize how much i was holding in, and ive been going to therapy for over 8 years for my anxiety and depression, this video was very helpful and i appreciate how much you really researched and gave pointers. a lot of the points you gave for feelings is exactly what my therapist recommends. im really glad to be able to heal past the religious trauma ive been dealing with with since i was a child and persue my interest in witchcraft thanks to your video :)
I've been looking into shadow work for a while now, but this is the clearest explanation I've found so far! The techniques you mention for really finding out your feelings are the same used by my therapist, so I've actually done quite a bit of shadow work already, and find myself grabbing back to those techniques in my daily life. I'm not in a place right now to do the really hard stuff with the deep shadows, but I've done some work already and I have some shadows that I know I have to face when I am in a more stable position. Thank you for this video and I would love to hear more in-depth thoughts you might have!
I am so happy you found this helpful! The techniques come from my background as a psychologist and they are the ones I apply in my craft (and everyday life for that matter) too :D And you are so right: it is incredibly important to know when you can tackle certain things and when to hold off until you are emotionally ready. I will definitely be sharing more on the topic soon - I belive it is such an important one for everybody 💚
I'm a baby witch in the broom closet, but I've always been amazing at dreaming, and my second best skill is- apparently- shadow work. I always like working on myself to be the best me I can be, taking accountability for the wrong things I've done, understanding my natural triggers, and doing a lot of introspection in general. I just never knew I was doing shadow work until now!
Thank you for mentioning that sometimes we may need help with shadow work. There are many shades of shadow. If we plan on doing some deep shadow work we must be in a place mentally to handle it. That is so important. Especially with trauma. I found I needed much support for that kind of shadow work and it took months to get through it. It can be hard and excruciatingly painful. I needed a hand to pull me through and out of it. I haven't done any real hard shadow work since that time and hope I never have to do it again. It's no fun. I have done lighter shadow work and I find that kind is an almost constant journey because things and situations pop up in my life on the regular that make me think hmmm...why did I react that way or feel that way? Regardless, yes! Being gentle and loving to yourself is so important. Really good video Bex.
So true! I actually think that doing shadow work with a therapist or coach can be most beneficial - suuuuuper important when dealing with hard stuff but also a true eye opener for "just" the little grey shadows. I am so glad to hear you were able to work through your story ❤️💪 And it is true - shadow work never really ends. It doesn't matter how well we think we figured ourselves out - we always create new shadows without even noticing.
You are so entertaining and warm, I adore your channel, and I'm SO excited you covered Shadow work! I was blown away when I discovered witchcraft and that Shadow work, the psychology concept, was a huge part of it. I love that you remind us first off to cultivate self love and being kind to yourself before even starting Shadow work - that is SO important!! Lots of love!
💕 oh thank you! So glad you enjoyed the video and the channel. And I had a similar reaction when discovering what witchcraft was all about and how beneficial it is to personal development / healing / getting to know yourself. Sending love and bright blessings your way 💚
I have never heard someone online or in a book describe shadow work as well as you just did in this video. I have done so much shadow work since moving away from home, specially moving out of my country. I am very resilient and due to having to work through many learning disabilities, I have this problem where I feel like I have to follow a system or steps to be happy because I was told for so long that I didnt do or think about things correctly from the get go. Having my world completely shaken was the best thing I could have done for myself. I am more of my authentic self today that I ever was back home because I moved away from the system that tried to change me in the first place. Shadow work is such a great thing and can be a very interesting process as well. It has brought me back to myself and allowed me to understand my family and everyone who has ever had an influence on me so much better. In a way, ive been able to help those i know do shadow work without them actually realizing. thank you for this video, i think it is the shadow work video we have been needing on youtube for a long time now.
Oh Çi just saw this comment! Thanks so much - I am so glad you think so! I totally get you on the topic of the conditioned expectations of what a successful life should look like - that must be quite a hard thought to break away from. I am so happy you had these experiences and could work through former beliefs into a more authetic self ❤❤❤
Thank you for sharing these videos. Baby witch in the southeastern US here who has been procrastinating on growing in my practice and beliefs. I really appreciate you 💜♒️
Made starting my shadow work so much more simple than I was initially making it I love love love all the videos and tips I've picked up along the way 😊
Great video! I love doing Shadow work and am currently just about to finish a witchy shadow work book titled Dark Goddess Craft, and move onto another (Journey to the Dark Goddess). I love Jungian psychiatry principles.
Thank you so much! I need to check out those books - the titles are definately intriguing :D And yeeees, shadow work is actually amazing and brings so much positivity and clearity (is that a word? xD) to ones life
Great video! I love your clear and helpful explanation of shadow work, and how to do it. It’s kind of a heavy topic that can be hard to understand sometimes, but you really did a great job making it accessible and less intimidating!
Thank you so much for this lovely comment! ☺️💚 It is indeed a topic that is surrounded by a lot of misinformation and misunderstanding - and it is definitely intimidating to start!
What a perfect question,.....”What would I do if I wasn’t afraid?” Thank you. I actually wrote that down and posted it for my meditation. I feel like you explained “Shadow” in such an amazing way. So comprehensive. So again, thank you🧙🏻♀️
Absolutely brilliantly done! Am really glad you mentioned that there are strengths in the shadows too!! That’s a key part of what I share on my blog! Love it!!
I think a lot of times people will focus to much of the negative aspect of it and try to "fix" stuff, instead of seeing the strengths in the shadows too. Very excited to see more of your videos this month as self acceptance is sososososo much intertwined with shadow work ❤️
You have the best combination video vlog of fun, learning, visuals, personality, and recipes all in one. Thank you for sharing your wonderful wisdom with us.
This is my third round of watching, it's really good! Hope your feeling tiptop soon!! Edit: shadow should be positive work and you helped me "see" a way of working. I did Intense CBT to get me on the path. My first therapist was a Jungian, trained at the Institute in Switzerland. She never spoke of that side of Jung. He used Tarot for goodness sake, that could have been fun. Instead we focused on shadow work which I was clueless about, I was 23.
Very educational! I love how you included the bit about the history and went in depth on the topic. I keep seeing a lot of this so I think the universe is trying to tell me something and I keep glazing over this topic like ‘naw, I don’t need to research that!’, but this is exactly what I needed to hear and definitely work on! Thanks!
😊 Oh that is great that you learned something new from this! In the future I will make some more videos on different techniques for shadow work / personal development from a witchy point of view for sure! 💚
@@Thewitchescookery Brilliant! I've found that the big trauma hasn't had anything like the effect of the little things, so finding a technique to deal with those is going to be greatly helpful. Thank you so much - have a lovely evening! xxx
Thank you for this lovely explanation. I've vaguely heard about shadow work before and it did make me curious. Now i realize that i have already been attempting this with my strong journalling habit. When i don't write i can't make sense of myself, my thoughts r so much less cohesive witbout taking the time to reflect in writing. Ive been this way since i could write. At times i dont write that much but it's not good for me mentally and emotionally to not be taking that time to check in on myself
I love this channel. You are so funny and entertaining not to mention knowledgeable and informative. You are one of the few people who can hold my attention long enough to watch the whole video. If you knew me you'd know what a compliment that truly is. Wishing you a joyful and gratifying TH-cam stay for as long as you need to spread your love and light.
I'm aware of Jung's Shadow pretty interesting stuff. Easy, down to earth and practical advice on how to pursue shadow work. We're all a mess absolutely fantastic Bex what a wonderful tutorial on how to begin to approach ones own self awareness I loved this thanks so much!
Very informative as always! I believe that this video will be helpful for many people. I think you said lots of things that other TH-camrs forgot to say about Shadow work. So well done forr me :) I can strongly recommend a book called The Dark Side of the Light Chasers by Debbie Ford. It's not a witch book but is all about Shadow and Shadow work with lots of useful excercises. I am glad you mentioned that doing Shadow work with help of a therapist may be useful and safer. It's also important to find somebody who is really quialified and experienced because lots of people who call themselves therapists are just people who want to make money... 20:22 Like a rose of Jericho :) Nice connection with the Wayward Witch :)
Yaih! I tried to stuff as much info in there as possible 😄 that book title sounds super intriguing - I will check it out right now! And I couldn't agree more on finding someone that is licensed and also that you can connect with. Luckily in Germany the title of therapist is legally protected so at least you know they know what they are doing (well, on paper at least 😂). Hehe yes, there was some overlap there with Kayla's video - someone else in the comments called it the selfawarness onion because it makes you cry and has many layers 😄 so accurate!
Have just found you on youtube - Love Love Love you're Videos - so much beautiful energy coming from you - your videos are awesome. Love this video and cant wait to work on my shadows :)
Oh my, oh my what a delightful wonderful person you are. I love love love your humour , your information I am so glad I found this channel. Wonderful lady thank you 😀😀❤️
As I work with Anubis, I do shadow work with him. It's super important to stop and take a break if you yourself feel overwhelmed or if you feel like your deity (if you work w one) feels like that. It's just that feeling. Outcome of mine was I definitely need therapy again 🙃
I am doing shadow work, is painful to unveil old beliefs, and not knowing what to do about, however half of the job is done when we are able to see them. Time has pass and Now I am able to see that Beautiful Human I am creating. my job is Creating someone Extraordinary over that shadow. Sigh, whistle ,Laugh .yawn, Flowing Love ,moving the body..........All memories and trauma are in the body, the Nervous System relaxation is the key.
This is very interesting Bex! I learned that I've been doing shadow work for some years now, but I dind't have that term for it 😃 I heard the term a couple of times before, but I also thought it must be dark magic, something to take revenge on someone by sending your demons to them, idk 🤣 Thanks for educating me 🙏🏼 Since it is such a psychological topic, I wish I could write my exam about it 😅
That is exactely what I thought when I was starting out xD Especially because no source explained it back in the days and everyone just kept writing how dangerous it was haha And yeeeees, maybe you get lucky and get a question about Jung in your exam. also: gooooood luck! Let me know how it went on Monday :)
Well thank you. Like yourself I have practised for many years. I found your channel in late 2021, and discovered something I could actually relate to. How's this for synchronicity? I am teaching someone tarot. I am a retired teacher and have practised tarot myself for 46 years! This week we are beginning the inner mysteries of the majors, that's cards 8 - 13. I am having difficulties getting my student to understand that the majors are forces, they are not good or bad they just are. Anyway as we are looking at cards 8, 9, & 10. We will be looking at The Hermit, the archetype of shadow work. My student seems averse to the negative aspects of any of the forces in the cards. On my TH-cam suggestions line this morning, up pops your Shadow Work video. Perfect. I'm going to send her the link. As an exchange of energy, thank you, and if you ever want a reading... (I never charge, but am ultra selective who I read for.)

Thank you ☺️ that is an awesome idea! I will post some exercises and promts on Patreon in March as I already have another post planned for today ❤️ thanks for the inspiration!
I have a question on that... From what I understood from Shadow Work, I've done it a few times without realizing what it was and as a result, I understood situations that would trigger anxiety, fear, panic attacks or plain sadness. After I noticed a few kinds of situations where that would happen, I found that a good way to self-preservate was to remove myself from the situation all together whenever that was an option. That happens mostly when people are being transphobic to me, specially when they are family, or simple verbal abuses, or even when people want to show they are better than me by bringing me down. So my question is.. by removing myself from situations that would provoke undesared feelings, am I running away from my shadows or am I being mature enough to know when to walk away before being lost in to such darkness?
Hello again..it would be lovely if you did what you suggest in the end of the video. I'm about to start shadow work this autumn and it would be SOOOO nice with examples, tips and ideas. Or do you already have a video on this that I have missed? 😳 Lots of hugs! 💜
I cannot laugh hard enough as soon as you said now we're getting into the interesting part how to actually do shadow work an ad hit at the exact same time
I came across a book that made a light go off (on) in my own shadow work - "Existential kink" by Carolyn Elliot Phd. she makes alot of sense out of looking at things from the other side, so to speak. *not affiliated in any way, just worth passing along. Great video young lady. 👍🌹
thanks for the clarity, I was wondering should I burn my book after writing out all my feelings in order to let go? Is it good to cry and let myself feel emotions while doing these exercises?
I’ve been unintentionally doing shadow work for 7 years! XD However, I’ve shone light on some of my shadows, and they don’t seem to care. Deep seeded trauma is a wicked beast. :(
Dankeschön!! Ich glaube von den Verlinkten Buchempfehlung gibt es auch deutsche Übersetzungen ☺️ spezifische Deutsche Autoren wüsste ich jetzt nicht (außer natürlich wissenschaftliche Werke)
Trauma- being adopted and my mother not answering any questions I had or have… “you’re trying to hurt me” “don’t go looking you’ll destroy your father and me and your brothers” “mom who do I look like? You look like you”
I am afraid of confrontation because I am afraid it will escalate and I would be the one getting into legal trouble, so how would I even integrate that?? I don't see how thats helpful or shows untapped potential? I don't think there's anything helpful about being afraid of confrontation.

Another brilliant video. Thank you!
Finally watching! I attempted to watch the super bowl but it isn't worth a darn and halftime is over so now I can watcccchhhh!!
Totally forgot that it was the Superbowl! But glad my video made second half 😂❤️
I've studied several different various magickal systems and religions. Thanks to you, I now have a new system to explore.
“All my demons greeting me as a friend” aurora
you are so refreshing in your approach to things! I love also that youre very real in the way you talk about witchcraft. so glad i found your channel!
Thank you, this is the first description of shadow work that i haven't been afraid of. Have a wonderful day to you too ❤
Thanks!
Thanks!
I've been into self examination almost all of my life. Shadow work without witchcraft. But I have had a good psychologist to help me.
Love, love, love your progams!! Every single one! Your a teacher and a healer! Bless you!!
I didn't know what shadow work was before watching this, so thank you. Definitely interested in learning more :) xx
Oh my Goddess, this eye opening, self-awareness video is absolutely over the Moon amazing. Thanks for the amazing-ness of this WISDOM!!
Really great explanation and it’s one of the most misunderstood concepts in the witch community.
Glad to hear you think so! And yes, very true - I have learned a lot of wirches don't really know what shadow work even entails
There should be a radio station with purely your background music 🥰 I loveeeeee it 🥰
Ooooh thank you! I love to pick out the music for the videos - I get it all from Epidemicsound :)
BVery interesting indeed and uncomfortable to deal with :D But yes, as we are all little messes we have to at some point :)
I love the way you speak right from your heart. 💖 Your so natural and lovely in all ways. 💕 BIG hugs! 😍
Oh thank you! What a lovely comment 💕 hugs for you
i had forgotten about this technique. thank you for reminding me of this, brought back many more with it.
:)
Thank you. This was the best explanation I have ever listened to. Blessings!
So glad you found it helpful 😊 bright blessings
Very informative as always! I believe that this video will be helpful for many people. I think you said lots of things that other TH-camrs forgot to say about Shadow work. So well done forr me :)
I can strongly recommend a book called The Dark Side of the Light Chasers by Debbie Ford.
I have just discovered you. You are absolutely adorable and I love your videos.
Have just found you on youtube - Love Love Love you're Videos - so much beautiful energy coming from you - your videos are awesome. Love this video and cant wait to work on my shadows :)
Excellent video, you explained shadow work really well and kept it light.
Thanks so much 🥰 I figured the topic is already intimidating enough by itself :D
Such a great video on shadow work! I haven't dabbled in it just yet but after this I think I know where I want to start! :)
I am glad you think so 🙂💚 it definitely isn't fun or easy to do but it definitely is important and after you feel like a superhero hehe
Namaste from India,
I just love your energy. Its so claiming and enjoyable. I'd love to bless your energy.
Thank you so much for your kind words 😊 Hope you have the most magical day!
I love your presentations! Your positive attitude is sweet fun and hilarious at times. Thank you for being you and for sharing!
🥰 thank you so much for taking the time and writing this sweet comment!
Oh my, oh my what a delightful wonderful person you are. I love love love your humour , your information I am so glad I found this channel. Wonderful lady thank you 😀😀❤️
Excellent introduction to shadow work and very thorough. Thank you!
Thanx Becks I needed ThiS 💕😊I’ve been putting this off for a while.🙄
omg I am a total mess 🥴 but that’s ok. Who isn’t? This is something that I am wanting to explore. Thanks for the encouraging video. 💚
Thank you for this video! Very informative and helpful as always.
Happy to hear that 💚☺️
Thank you for the book references! Very helpful ❤
I love you you're so funny. You have such a good personality I really enjoy your channel.
@@Thewitchescookery thank you 🥰 I will
I currently have a sticker on my desk that says "Every shadow has a gift."
Such a gift

🤗✨
Thank you for this video! It is so helpful thank you🙏🏻
This is so good. I need this a lot. I'd love more of that subject. Thanks! ❤
So happy to hear! I will definitely be doing another video on the subject soon ☺️
I really loved your relaxing detailed video. I have always wandered hoe to do shadow work. I think it is always important to do Shadow work. You are very funny. ❤️😁💐
Very helpful! I would love to hear your prompts.

Great video! Would love for you to follow this up with some examples and prompts, maybe something you could do for Patreon 🙏🏻🥰
Shadow work. No fun to have shadows but this is all so helpful. Xo
That is true but so important to work on them in order to grow 💚😊
Hello again..it would be lovely if you did what you suggest in the end of the video. I'm about to start shadow work this autumn and it would be SOOOO nice with examples, tips and ideas. Or do you already have a video on this that I have missed? 😳 Lots of hugs! 💜
I cannot laugh hard enough as soon as you said now we're getting into the interesting part how to actually do shadow work an ad hit at the exact same time
Hahah TH-cam knows how to get those coins 😂
I am not financially able hope you will guide me to develop my mind so that i can help others to overcome their emotional pain
I came across a book that made a light go off (on) in my own shadow work - "Existential kink" by Carolyn Elliot Phd.
she makes alot of sense out of looking at things from the other side, so to speak.
*not affiliated in any way, just worth passing along.
Great video young lady. 👍🌹
I recently started shadow work, in 20 minutes I had more of a breakthrough then a whole life of therapy. Feel like I was honest for the fist time.
That makes me so excited to hear! That is wonderful - well done ❤️🤗
thanks for the clarity, I was wondering should I burn my book after writing out all my feelings in order to let go? Is it good to cry and let myself feel emotions while doing these exercises?
If that feels helpful to you, then go for it!
Hello! This was very helpful!
I'm planning on starting shadow work.
However, as someone with multiple personalities, how can I do it?
I’ve been unintentionally doing shadow work for 7 years! XD However, I’ve shone light on some of my shadows, and they don’t seem to care. Deep seeded trauma is a wicked beast. :(
Would writing lyrics about one's past be a form of doing shadow work?
So I have been doing shadow work without knowing/realising it. Tho I will need to go deeper with this.
It is definitely a great way to grow and develop as a person 🙂🦋
Trauma- being adopted and my mother not answering any questions I had or have… “you’re trying to hurt me” “don’t go looking you’ll destroy your father and me and your brothers” “mom who do I look like? You look like you”
Are there any books on, or about Shadow Work?
Thank u so much.
I am afraid of confrontation because I am afraid it will escalate and I would be the one getting into legal trouble, so how would I even integrate that?? I don't see how thats helpful or shows untapped potential? I don't think there's anything helpful about being afraid of confrontation.
