The Colt will be worth far more than the Wilson's, et al, in the future. And a super-tight slide isn't necessary, as you point out. In fact, if the slide is too tight, reliability goes down hill fast.
    Great job! :)

I have a National Match (not Gold Cup) that was made in 1963. It has a lighter frame or slide. It came with a recoil buffer. I looked at a newer Gold Cup and it didn't have the buffer. I'm glad for the info regarding the various versions.

I have a 1936 Colt and it shoots just a little to the left. About 1 inch at 50 yards but has never failed in all the years I have had it. I have never checked the trigger pull.
I carry a Kimber Custom ll 1911 since 1995. It has a 2.6 lb. trigger form the factory. I know I see comments about the Kimber not being a reliable firearm but I have had no issues with it. It came with 2 of the 8 round magazines and a box ammunition for $786 taxes included.
I use the 185 gr. Gold Dot bullet loaded to 1,100 fpc. It's a thumper loaded like that but I love the 230 fmj at 850 to 900 and at 100 yards I hit consistently a empty propane tank like for a gas grill.
I love the trigger on them.
I so much enjoy watching your shows.

Had an uncle that was an armorer and FFL. We would go to their house on Thanksgiving for dinner then out to his range. One year I said something about how I didn't like 1911s that much. He had a Gold Cup on his hip, he said, here try this one. After a few rounds I too had big smile on my face. I gained a whole new respect for 1911s that day.

Hi Gunblue, how would you compare you new Colt to your Ruger SR1911? Is it noticeably better?

They are each wonderful pistol designs, but very different. The Ruger is a practical combat pistol, while the GCNM is a dedicated target pistol. I'll do the same accuracy test of the SR1911 one of these days. Stay tuned!

This is my very first comment ever on TH-cam, or any other internet site/forum for that matter, as you, sir, are/ have the only channel that I consider being worthy of my time to subscribe to. I formatted my apple account just to subscribe to your channel and comment. I truly enjoy and appreciate your no-nonsense approach to firearm ownership, use, and care. If we had many more people like you in the world, the world would be an even more wonderful place. I look forward to each and every new video that you produce. I particularly enjoy your videos on handguns and reloading, however, I catch myself watching your various videos on cooking, woodworking, and rifles, just to make sure I don’t miss-out on a thought or an opinion which you may have which may carry-over to handguns or pistol shooting. I’m honored just thinking that you may read my post.
My question to you is…Do you have any insight into the Colt Gold Cup “National Match” vs. The Colt Gold Cup “Trophy”? There are obvious differences in the material, features, price, etc. However, I have heard you discuss in one of your ( I think first) Gold Cup videos that Colt “offers several Iterations of the Gold Cup”, and do you think that the “ trophy’s” intended purpose is very different from the “ national match” guns when on Colts assembly line? In other words, do you think Colt builds the “national match” guns to tighter barrel lock-up/tighter tolerances under the assumption that its primary intended purpose may be for “ Bullseye shooting”, where as the trophy may be more geared toward “action shooting”? I suspect that with the “Trophy’s” features like a magazine well and front strap checkering, emphasis may be on speed, yet the “trophy” and the “ National Match” both share the same adjustable rear target sight and the wide trigger shoe which seem intended for precision or bullseye shooting.
I’m more interested in the precision aspect of shooting. While I’m not a good enough shot to tell the difference YET, would you suspect the National Match a better choice as I embark on my journey toward all “X Rings”(😀), or would you think I have the same chances with my Trophy if/when I begin to load my own, taylored ammo.
Somehow, for no particular reason, my 1911s have been mostly Stainless Steel. Do you think a better gun for bullseye shooting should be made of carbon steel?
Lastly, do you think that when Colt or any other production 1911 manufacturer ( Springfield Armory, Kimber, Sig, etc.) builds a batch of “target 1911s” vs. producing a batch of garden variety, home defense, tactical, whatever 1911s, do you think any particular effort is made to produce specific results when barrel fitting, etc., or do you think that they simply rely on todays modern machining practices and equipment to produce consistent high quality 1911s ( as in, do you suspect that the next Colt Gold Cup National Match to come off the assembly line after your particular firearm was produced, to have the same or extremely similar accuracy as yours does if you were to feed it some of the exact same ammo from the same batch that you produced and shot in your pistol? Or, is it more of a “luck of the draw” thing?
I wish you could share your comments and opinions in a video!
Thank you for sharing your vast wealth of knowledge! God Bless!

I personally prefer a simple Hoppe's rest, and cover it with a heavy soft cloth to protect the gun. A small head pillow under the forearms is very helpful.

A handgun is a little different than a rifle. Use the rest to support your wrists. Don't place the gun directly on the rest. This allows the gun to recoil consistently for each shot.

A bit off topic, but I'm just curious. Do you aim by using the center hold, or do you use the 6 o'clock hold?

    • @GunBlue490
      @GunBlue490  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Patridge sights are traditionally used for bullseye targets with a 6:00 O'clock hold. I refer you to my precision pistol shooting series for a complete explanation. One does not "see" a bullseye target, only an obscure, fuzzy, black dot is visible, tangent to the sharp sights. One cannot hold to the center of a fuzzy black dot, but one can hold sharply defined sights beneath it.

We all know who you are talking about and their $3000-5000 dollar 1911’s, I’m sure those are fine weapons, but are not in my budget, and won’t do anything special, they send a round down range. I’ve always had great results using lighter loads in my SA 1911. First time I shot them, I was afraid it wouldn’t cycle the slide, but the pistol runs like a champ with them. I don't think I put two boxes of factory (I don't shoot enough to reload) since I had it two years. I installed a new collet bushing, and I couldn't tell an accuracy difference after the second box. But my 70 yr. old eyes can't shoot what they used to either, so I use 'Eye-Pal' peep-hole stickers on my safety glasses, & it helps... LOVE my Mk IV, 70!

He wouldn't fly until 1987 when he had to go from Washington, DC (where I was born) to Chicago for my wedding. He was in no shape to drive at that point. I don't think he flew after that either.

A good video Mr. Blue. I also believe that a gun should work right out of the box. I do not understand this idea that it ''needs' a break in that many manufactures say these days. Run 200 rounds and if it still doesn't run right then you can ask if you can send it back.
    EDIT
I don't see responses to my posts as the toob blocks them from me. Sometimes I can find them after a few days, sometimes never.

Jeez, I hope I don't give out heart attacks here, but one of my favorite 1911s I own is a Chinese made NORINCO I bought BNIB in 1992. Yep, that's right... WHY? I can feed empty cases from a magazine and can not recall a failure even with light H&G 68 loads, it is plenty accurate, has a nice trigger and aside from springs and grips is made from forgings and all machined w/o MIM or stamped parts. The steel quality is superior to many (even Gov contract ones) and the dimensions are right and tight. It was one of only a few makers Wilson would build customs on if that says anything about the guns quality.
NORINCO makes fine guns as you would expect an actual military maker would. Let folks hate on my 'junky' NORINCO - I consider it the best $225 I ever paid for a NIB pistol, esp for a true 1911A1 clone. Nice Colt NM pistol GB, I know I'd be happy with it and its performance.

Match wadcutters and fine tune them to 760-770 fps as I had the chance fifteen years ago , and set your sights to that particular load specs the accuracy potential is surprisingly impressive, like all impacts touching each other time after time and then clean after 200 rounds and repeat .💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💥💥💥

Speaking of the Series 70 GC... I bot mine so I wouldnt have to spend $$$ getting a 1911 fine tuned. Out of the box, it was looser than the one I had in the service that had been thru 3 world wars and 17 skirmishes -- AND shot about the same, too! Then the front site came off and hit me in the forehead during a match! Then the 4 fingered barrel bushing broke and Really! jammed it up! Frank K who I knew was a fine 45 smith. He did a Really fine job for me, tightening the rails and fitted a target bushing, installed Millet sights and generally fine tuned it for me. It now shoots one hole groups at 50 feet - if I do my part. Having had that 'experience', now, you couldnt Give me a Colt anything ever again!! Good Video!! Jerry

Is it a light extractor or heavy ex. that causes the cases to eject straight back? If nothing else this will give me an idea of Colt's factory warranty work.@@billj5645

You are so correct about price ! A person can over spend unnecessarily to have a well made firearm. I'm a firearm lover and have many and I enjoy each one however if you are a collector odds are we have purchased a gun or two however fabulous they seem to be , hand fit and so forth , once we get to the range and see that they are any more accurate then a average price 1911 then we can have a twist in the pride revolution and so quite true owning an collection building must be a learning experience for each of us. My sweet spot in the 1911 arena is the full size Springfield Garrison a very nice pistol for the money and in a few variants and again Colt , S&W , Ruger , Springfield can get you in a beautiful and functional 1911 at reasonable prices, Custom is nice but you can be glad you choose a good production gun especially in these modern times and a 1911 is such a joy to own and shoot.

I really like a grip with finger choils on the front of the grip.

I have a colt series 70 government made in 76, beautiful gun shoots great I love it. Also have a Dan Wesson 1911 made in the mid 90s paid 650 bucks for it. Wonderful gun it will out shoot my colt, but I love them both. Five grains of red dot 200 grain bullet that shoots great out to 50 yds. Hit my 12x12 inch plate at a hundred yds with the Dan Wesson when and if I do my part.

As a youth, my uncle always talked about doing a gold cup clone. I've never had one myself but have since had several 1911s. Recently I took a 10mm Springfield Ronin, replaced the mim parts with tool steel. It turned into a nice woods gun, more accurate than my other pistols.

    • @GunBlue490

It may be excessive ejection force due to a light recoil spring for your ammo. Try an 18.5# spring.

Fingered collet bushings were very effective in the days before the use of precision CNC machining. It's a standard, precisely fit bushing.

The Colt Nation Match is a very fine pistol. My Dad gave me a Combat Commander with an electro-less nickel finish almost 30 years ago. It was the first centerfire pistol I ever shot and I fell in love with it. It’s one of my most cherished pieces in my collection.

Thank you for sharing! As a kind heads up from a former electroplater, we performed electro-less nickel plating, without anodes/cathodes in a solution. Electrolysis is generally for the permanent removal of hair.

25 years ago I was dedicated to my 1911s.
I discovered that the lighter the powder charge the tighter the groups.
I can’t recall the exact charge but somewhere around 4.2-4.3gr
I really enjoy your videos and admire you for sharing your knowledge.
