I come from a working class family who has to live paycheck to paycheck. I used to think I was poor but I have come to realize that I am very rich. My parents love me, my family members love each other, and I love them. I do my best to succeed in school and eventually get a good job. But many people don't have a loving family and they don't have the peace that it brings and money can't buy that. Life is very difficult but this love and this inner peace can only come from God.
This situation is sad beyond words....too much pain and suffering for too many people. :( My heart goes out to all. It's amazing how much damage one person can do to others. It reminds us all how very very responsible WE are for all we say and do.
That has nothing to do with the Ponzi scheme. They were a old married couple and one of them was dying. They couldn’t imagine being apart so they planned a murder suicide.
I absolutely love listening Andrew tell his story. Such a shame that he passed so soon after cancer. Now Bernie and Mark are deceased. Only Ruth remains.
@Leonardo's Truth Leonardo you make such a great point! That's what I was thinking, too. We have three branches of government, and then the "Fourth Estate", being the news media which is supposed to act as a watchdog on the ethics of the government. But what does it tell you that the actors/actresses/models posing as "journalists" in the corporate owned media live essentially the same lives - with comparable wealth and privilege - as the people they are supposed to be watching and scrutinizing? They send their children to the same private schools, belong to the same country clubs, and live in the same places. And then we're supposed to believe that there is any truth or objectivity in their fake "journalism"? NBC was owned for years by General Electric - one of the largest arms manufacturers in the world (no surprise they were so committed to duping a naive American populace into the disastrous and illegal war/invasion of Iraq on false pretenses) and is now owned by Comcast. Just think of the level upon level of conflict of interests going on between the corporations that own the media and the government and private industry. So the fact that you call attention to the coziness of these neighbors all living together in palatial elegance on the Upper East Side is right on the money; it is a highly significant clue to how the degenerate elites operate.
Matt went up and he went down being a big shot of the town. He’s a scum bag...may be a candidate soon for a Trump appointment. Scumbags attract scumbags.
Yeah she was really good in that part. DeNiro is an extremely overrated actor. He's only really good at playing mute psychopaths. John Wayne had more range.
THE CHIP IN DAVID'S TOOTH Matt lauer is the lest guilty guy there. The entire madolf family knew about the scheme and have as a result killed dozens of people
I feel bad for his kids...one died of cancer the other suicide. Money...the root of most evil. You can do good or bad with it. This man destroyed so many lives. So sad.
Actually, what destroyed these people, these "investors," was outsized GREED. They weren't happy with normal Wall Street yields. Too bad for them. Bernie Madoff took advantage of them. This happens all the time in life. Sad.
Criminals can keep deep secrets, even from their families. They probably felt something was "wrong" but couldn't exactly put their fingers on it because he was clever and covered his tracks.
I know other people that defrauded their clients. The person I knew was a CPA, who also served on the ethics committee of her association (!). No one knew or even suspected what she had been doing for 25 years. Not her partner, siblings, co-workers, or business partner. I believe these frauds really can pull the wool over the eyes of even the people closest to them.
She saw nothing, but then she had a dream one day before the shit hit the fan , that she should withdraw $15m dollars and transfer to her private account... yep she knew nothing!
KingsWorld2015 of course she knew. He didn’t even have a brokerage account- No trades whatsoever- He took a lot of thieves down with him - people who through schemes had defrauded others and got away with it were eventually brought down because they “invested” money with Madoff.
Ruth's first question to Andrew was 'What's a "Ponzi scheme?' Come again? Ruth was a math wiz who graduated from Queens College where she majored in Business Administration & Finance. She was working on Wall Street before Bernie. It is hard to believe that the little mathematical wiz cooking the books had no idea what was a Ponzi Scheme.
She wasn’t “cooking books” she worked in his office in the 1960’s then was a housewife the rest! Her office was for her to do decorating things and “housekeeping” at the office... she didn’t have to actually work!!!
The scene with Michelle Pfeifer, although superbly acted, I didn't think it really happened also. For a well educated american, of her age, she should know the expression, yeah.
Married for 50 yrs; worked in the office; lived like a Queen, and did not know that her husband was a crook??? BS!!! Whether she knew or not is a moot point now; she has lived well at the expense of other ppl’s future.
I feel so sorry for Ruth. Especially knowing now that Andrew has also died. Just unbelievably tragic the whole thing. I hope Ruth finds some peace in her grandchildren.
Bernie was a pretty smart guy. I wouldn't at all be surprised if he said something like "Look boys, I don't want this to become YOUR problem [as much as possible] once I'm busted, so completely bury me and disown me. Don't look sympathetic for me at all, otherwise you'll catch a ton of flak." I have no real reason to doubt their sincerity... as I don't know them at all. However it doesn't take a genius to see what was coming to the Madoff family, and the last thing Bernie would want to do is make it worse. Terrible what happened to Mark, Thierry, and all the other people who were financially obliterated.
I could be wrong but I believe his plea included a guarantee that his sons would not be prosecuted. In my opinion you are probably correct. Me, I might have been on my jet to Rio! I also remember reading somewhere that he considered that option but did not want to leave his family in the lurch! Which would make him not a total jerk! Hey the guy didn't kill anyone! From a workin slob!! Just sayin
@@catherinehpn3613 no he was afraid that the feds were coming for him, he committed suicide after when the trustees place a lawsuit one of the allegation was "Andrew and Mark’s actual account statements from their deferred compensation plans showed returns that were clearly too good to be true-including returns of up to 24 percent in accounts where no actual trades took place." madoff took all the heat stalling the investigation. they had been printing fake statements to thousand of customer that had to be done by a group of people, all these people got off free. mark transfer million to his children before all this come down, his children got a lawsuit as well.

I know this sounds strange, but I believe them. I know this is an extreme example, but serial killers and rapists hide their crime sprees for years and years, so why can’t a fraudster do the same? If anything, hiding fraud from your family would be easier than hiding a murder.
The son, here, Andrew later died of Lymphoma in 2014. I feel bad for his and his brothers children. Honestly the kids should change their last names if they are going to have a chance to make their own way in life.
Oh wow I didnt know that..very sad endings of life for Bernie and his wife and sons...and all for what.....money!! Im glad I dont have any!! Thanx 4 the info about Andrew..
Andrew is very believable and always has been. Poor guy had his cancer come back shortly after this. I believe he and Mark are victims too. Very unsure about Ruth. While I’m not sure she knew all the intricacies of what Bernie was doing, to say she’s completely innocent is tough to swallow.
Oh for god sake, she was his bookkeeper for 1 year. The first year when the business was open decades before the fraud started. She was long gone at that point. I thought people knew this info already? Or are you just reading headlines and the gossip instead of actually doing the research work?
Mark and Andrew worked on the 19th floor in trading. Their father ran his fraud on the 17th floor and he kept them out of "his side" of the business. The work they did (I believe) honestly went to fund his fraud and it's not fair to say that they "had to know". They trusted their father and they believed him to be the big shot he was known around Wall Street to be.
His wife is so full of it, you have to be absolutely naive to believe this lady is not aware of this fraud, and the way they treated the people who worked for them entitled pretentious witch. Look in her eyes liars always have a tell, for her it's the smug smirk on her face, she's not sorry for any of it. The son who died first, his widow gave some real insight into who she (Ruth) really was, now she wants nothing to do with him. They wrote the book and did these interviews bcuz now the 1% community has shunned them, poor Ruth the "victim" has no friends. Boo hoo
Kimberly Klaus the fucking trading floor made zero trades in decades. You telling me the kids didn’t realize the “trades” they made all day didn’t match up with the reports being sent out to investors
Bernie reportedly treated his wife like crap, was very critical of her, and was having an affair on the side. Had she divorced him for cheating, she would have been much better off today. Never ignore a man who cheats on his wife. He is of questionable moral character.
I think they knew that Madoff didn't play by the rules and was perhaps doing something unethical at the least. However I don't think they would have dreamed that it was a complete and total fraud of such a magnitude. Madoff loved his family very much and was trying to shield them from what he knew was going to happen eventually. However if the market hadn't completely tanked in 2008 he might have been able to keep up the charade for a long time. The redemption requests simply overwhelmed him and in the panic no one was lending money to anyone so it finally collapsed, as all ponzi schemes do. Perhaps he could have kept it up until he died? That might have greatly complicated things. It seems like the trustee got most people just about their entire principle back, but all the false gains are up in smoke. That helps a lot of people a whole lot. But if you were living a lifestyle based on the idea you had 5 million in the bank and then realize you only have 1 million then bad things are going to happen in your life. It is a sad situation for everyone.
She sort of knew he invested money for friends....really Ruth ? she worked there as an accountant.....how do you miss such a big picture ? not getting it.
+Lina Nicolia Especially if the clients wives asked questions about the return rate through the years you would think she saw some kind of pattern going on. But, also have to concider when she met him. Those were the days when the wife was a housewife and the husband made the money. So she trusted him with her life and never questioned him because women never questioned their husbands way back in the 60's. To her , he was God. Thats scary , scary thought.
No she didn't. She worked there as an accountant the first year the business started when there were only two employees. That was decades before Bernie started the fraud. Ruth was already long gone from the company by that point.
If he didn't involve his sons, he definitely wouldn't have involved his wife. He would have had to keep it secret, he would have been turned in. These types always keep their wives in the dark. What a total shock for her and them Wow!!
Plus Bernie and Ruth were old school. He worked and she was a housewife who didn't ask questions. Why would she? I believe Ruth would've told her sons about their dad's illegal activities. I don't think she would have put her children's freedom at risk.
She stood by him after she found out he screwed people out of millions but left him when she found out some women screwed him for thousands? . The best part of the abc show
+B Butler That's a stupid thing to say because Mark was still her son and he had met with Ruth shortly before his suicide. He featured prominently in the book alongside the rest of them.
It's amazing how sneaky/manipulative people like Mrs. Ponzi(Ruth Madoff) thinks that everyone is stupid she was never innocent nor is she a good person she's a ruthless and heartless woman, who cared about $$ and not having wealthy friends more than her own family.
If Ruth didn't know she def. suspected. She also def. enjoyed the "fruits" of Bernie's chicanery, the lifestyle was great. He'd buy anything she wanted, she had houses, clothes, fancy restaurants, jewelry - anything. Mark it seems to be was the only one with conscience...
So what? She was the lady of one of the wealthiest families on the planet. Why wouldn't she live the high life? Ruth knew nothing. Bernie did not disclose he was running a ponzi scheme. His ego wouldn't allow it.
All so tragic. He especially betrayed his family. Quite believable that he could have kept the scam from his family. We do not reveal all our darkest secrets even to our families. It is part of the human condition.
+Hunter Husnay Exactly, people don't realize the dynamics of husband/wife relationship. Because you trust the person, you're going to believe whatever explanation they tell you and do what they've asked you to do. That's not hard to understand...and that's what Ruth did
Of course she would, but if you trying to be secretive and deceptive and betray the trust she had in you by her feeding her any type of lies that sounded good and the most believable, right? If that was your intention....
My wife asks no questions about finance. I could have tons of accounts she knows nothing about, I could buy houses and/or cars and she wouldn't know anything about it. I hate it, I want her to be more involved. I actually have written out budgets including all accounts and assets. She just says it looks good even though I know she didn't look at it. When I ask her why she says in her childhood things financially were tough and she doesn't like thinking about it. She says she trusts me. I ask what she would do if I died and she says she'd follow my will/instructions and get advice from family. Believe me, it's possible she never asked a question.
+Harold Wagner he should have gotten 10 years, hanging, please these greedy fucks wanted to get 10% a year for the rest of their life with no downside, fuck them and you as well.
They stopped talking to Ruth because she wouldn't cease staying in Contact with Bernie and Mark necked him self because his professional life and in-turn his personal life was over.
Relatives and friends were destroyed. Not her though. She should be a Walmart greeter like all of the innocent people that are struggling to get by. She didn’t lose her wealth as Matt Lauer put it.
vigorvitales I'm talking about how ignorant and brainwashed you are by blaming money for the cause of "all evils", the same money you use to buy all kind of stuff by the way. You are not just poor in your bank account, you are also poor in your little brain. I'm sure religion is at fault in your case. Too much God bull and here you are talking non-sense. Pathetic.
What did you not understand about my self-evident comment?! I said it was the LOVE of money, not money itself, that leads people to commit all sorts of evils (crimes)? Pay attention.
That's the most absurd comment ever made about money and obviously explains your ignorance and low IQ. A person's "love" or interest for creating wealth not necessarily means it will create a source of evil and crimes around him/her. Pay attention brainwashed idiot and think, use that little brain for something good. As a rule of thumb try not to generalize and being absolute in life. Geez.
I'm kinda disgusted with how his family turned their backs on him once he was caught. when money was coming in you guys lived him and benefited from him. now when he has nothing you turn your back on him. I wouldn't do that to my parents especially if I profited from his crimes. if he was a pedophile or something then yes but other than that you don't cut him off completely.
nordette I understand how you feel but it ruined her family too so she had to step away. On a side note I know various people who lost money through Madoff. They all said he was charming and they never suspected a thing. All of them Jewish along with many synagogues and Jewish programs that helped multi-faith people. The elderly and charities are the biggest disgrace of all. I find all the anti-semetic comments disgusting so I wanted to point that out.
It's NOT uncommon to be living with someone and not know what they're doing when they're not with you. You don't have a spy can recording their every move. Why is this challenging for people to believe?
She loved and trusted him. He did not want her and his sons to know anything. The truth is, I think that was his bizarre way of wanting to protect them from being involved in the whole mess.
Madoff was considered a financial genius. He was the pioneer of automated trading, served as the chairman of NASDAQ, drafted SEC regulations, was one of the leaders of the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA),served on the board of directors of the Securities Industry Association, a precursor of SIFMA, and was a founding board member of the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC). He was a big shot. Why would she suspect anything?

@@tonyceeone the feds should have known as well and put charges on her and the boys. Keep crying, no one can prove it. She’s out free and the rest of the family besides Bernie.
I think one of the biggest reasons people are disgusted by the Madoff's was their desperate attempt to hold onto as much money as possible. Let us say that they didn't know about the scheme. The two sons almost certainly knew their father was engaging in chicanery and bending rules, but from what I have heard most people involved on Wall Street do. After the end of the scam the families moved quickly to shield as much money as possible, claiming it was unrelated to the fraud, despite massive transfers of funds from the business to them (such as a 44 million dollar loan from the parents to the sons). Finally the sons' estates surrendered over 90 percent of their money and assets. I would be willing to bet that a whole lot of that money will be frozen as other victims try to sue the estates for other reasons, much like Ruth Madoff's last money. I saw something that said that the Law Firm in charge of getting as much money back as possible was bound and determined to make sure that Madoff's scams did not benefit his grandchildren in any way financially. He is very close to success in those regards. PS I heard the books by the two wives were pathetic feel sorry for me pieces that reeked of self pity and a very insincere apology to the victims. I do take pleasure in the knowledge that those women are not going to be living the lavish lifestyles they thought they would.
Perhaps I can be a bit long winded BUT I'm not certain if it equates with bankrupting a person like Eli Wiesel and the Wiesenthal Center. Food for thought.@@joshpratt5519
I think it gets overlooked on how selfish Bernie really was, is the fact that he was actually relieved when he was caught, thinking that he was finally at peace, but not even thinking that the nightmare for his family has only begun and will be, long after his death.
I wonder if this family ever really loved each other. It all seems so cold, even if my dad killed a child in front of me I would still love him. It's so cold, the sons just cut off mum and dad. It's scary.
@@biancab310 the Madoff’s were Jewish. Jews normally value family and honoring your parents is looked upon as one of the greatest commandments. It’s just tragic how dishonoring the sons were to their dad and mom.
@@helenal.7881 The father brought shame and ruin not only on them, but on all their friends and relatives , who had bought into the scam. I side with Mark and Andrew.
@@BrightSeaStar their father did not bring ruin to their lives. He made some huge mistakes obviously but his sons chose a very destructive route on their own by being unforgiving and bitter! His son Mark did NOT have to chose suicide!! What about the ruin HE (Mark) chose to leave his 4 young children w/out a father?? (2 toddlers w/his second wife and 2 w his first wife fyi) Mark judged his father and lo and behold…he turned around and did the exact same thing to his children…!!! And Andrew did not help his cancer by being so bitter either. Those types of toxic emotions harm our health.
Mark & Andrew did not have no clue to Madoff. Bernie was so private. Soon as they were told they immediately went to authorities. I think stress caused the cancer . Ruth I question her 15, million not a good gesture considering all the investors loosing all the money.
I feel sorry for the brothers & the mother. I think they really did not know, or they might have been lying to themselves. Still, the ones who really knew are still working in trading floors... and I guess they don't give a flying fuck. But my question is: If madoff managed to run his scheme for so long, at such a high scale, how many other ponzi schemes are uncovered right now??? As a matter of fact, I guess the US economy is the biggest ponzi scheme ever! The Chinese trying to fill the dept again and again with countless new loans, the Americans will never be able to pay back!

What a stupid question! First off, it was pretty hard not to hear that creepy moron Lauer introduce her as the fiancee of the lying annerexic clown sitting beside her, but at no point was she asked a question or expected to make a comment about something there Nancy. So you advertise to everybody the level of stupid your working on by not noticing creep boy introduce her when he initially introduced the family at the cstart, but you try and fail epically at being humorous by insulting the only one of the 4 people on that set who isn't a deplorable, compulsive lying piece of shit, and the insult is about her not speaking over the course of that long 3 minute interview in which not one question was posed to her, nor at one point during the 3+ minutes was she expected to add a comment about something or speak at all! You need to practice what you preach and keep a lid on your own toilet bowl boy!
Regan MacNeil really.......you have to ask that question? She is a repulsive woman with no heart and compassion thats WHY Cordelia probably feels that Ruth makes her sick. Its pretty obvious why no one can stand her.
The sons knew. Several books out about the Madoff debacle, every single one of them indicates that both boys knew, and alluded to it in semi public/semi-private situations. These are books written by the man who busted him, the SEC director who followed behind the debacle, and several attorneys in and around the lawsuits, several big time brokers who were part and parcel of the feeder funds servicing Madoff. Ruth knew nothing. Both sons are now dead, the sins of the father were visited very heavily on them.
It’s sad they all dogging the guy now but they were there fir the good times least they could do is forgive and give the guy some sense of closure seeing he’s in jail for life.
I think he was a slick psychopath and kept his family at a distance. She lost both of her children. She pretty much has lost everything. This is another example of why there needs to be stricter regulations. I view regulations as being a way to protect people from themselves. Men like Bernie are not really going to share these types of details with his wife. What a nightmare.
Autumn Sapphire There can be tons of regulations, and there were, but if they are not enforced it doesn't matter a bit. The SEC had been told for about 5 years yet they did nothing. And in the end the SEC had nothing to do with his being caught. The SEC was complicit for all the years they had been receiving reports on Bernie and did nothing.

After seeing the ABC "movie"... It's a lot of fun seeing these people not knowing what the hell to do without billions while most us 🇺🇸's have a ball with thousands! 👏👏👏
Bernie was technically the best con-man in world history ($65 Billion), so it does seem feasible that the world's most successful con-man in history could indeed con even his family members....well, for around 15 years or so. Bernie was even made head of certain regulatory agencies, for Chrisakes, so he fooled the public, and wealthy investors (Footloose's Kevin Bacon, for one)! And the SEC - it's there job! - didn't even catch him, he was that good. I do believe his family didn't know -- but they were kinda dim for not checking much further than they did......but maybe I'm a gullible fool.
good point ... it shows how gullible and self-deluded she is ... clearly an airhead ... probably a bit arrogant ... but she is alright now with 2.5 million to live on even though the emotional fallout could be almost unbearable for her ... but all in all only mildly interesting ...
I believe them. They loved there father/husband. The last thing you want to believe about someone you love is something nefarious. Bernie went to great lengths to keep up his charade and didn't want his family to know anything.
I remember the mother was caught trying to get jewelry and furs smuggled out of their apartment during the period he was out on bail. So when she feigns sympathy for the victims, it doesn't hold water. Those jewels, those furs were bought with victims' money and she was trying to hold on to every last ill gotten cent right up to the end. I don't believe the sons didn't know, either, front office and back office operations are in constant communication all day long regarding trade details ... there were no trades coming to them from the father's business and they never wondered why? Not believable.
I don't think Ruth ,Andrew, or Mark knew. They may have had some vague suspicions, and been in denial. Mark's wife Stephaine testified that Bernie and Mark only had fights when Mark wanted to know more about exactly what his father did, and how he did it. Ruth sent the jewels to her sons, so they would have something to pass on to their families, before the IRS stepped in. I do understand that.
First, I find it almost funny that good ole Matt conducted this interview and made that comment that would prove him to be a hypocrite. The Madoff's....what can I say? Where do I start. It is unbelievable that BM did this but he did have help from the SEC who turned a blind eye to the many times they were warned by that man and his group of coworkers. Greed, power, payoffs....I am sure it all went on. I will not speculate on whether Andrew knew....he must of on some level known that his dad was not as honest in his dealings, but what he did, could have been hidden by BM....it is not far fetched to consider. Look at how many times a family discovers that their loved one was a mass murderer or participated in some shady dealings. I personally feel for the all of the victims of BM.....all....from his family to the teachers who were relying on a pension to allow them to retire. I feel for Andrew. It appears as if he not doing too well physically.....I imagine the stress of living with the damage his father did laid heavily on his shoulders and might have contributed to his cancer reoccurring. I do not think he knew.
I feel terrible for the sons. I dont believe they knew. I DO believe that Ruth knew. I think she just cared about herself and keeping that lifestyle regardless of who she hurt. She is a horrible person. She was caught trying to hide her furs, money, etc. before it all went away. She does NOT seem to be a caring Mother at all. I just dont see any compassion towards her son.
I just seen the film " The wizard of Lies" last night... Interesting.... I mean this is so sad.. I mean so many lives lost/ruined, because of this man.... I believe Ruth.. When a man has this much power the wife is always quiet... like don't ask any questions... just do what I'm told mentality. I also believe the brothers too. I mean they cut off their father for christ sakes..
There is no difference between any major bank and Madoff. Its just they got bailouts, he did not The reason he did not, he was not big enough to fail, that's all Why he and any major bank/insurance company are any different is never explained to the public!
When your a master criminal , you have a escape plan and don't involve your family . This was greed and living the high life that went out of control . He died for our sins.

Don't look sympathetic for me at all, otherwise you'll catch a ton of flak."
I have no real reason to doubt their sincerity... as I don't know them at all.
Very unsure about Ruth. While I’m not sure she knew all the intricacies of what Bernie was doing, to say she’s completely innocent is tough to swallow.

No doubt. Ruth was his bookkeeper at some point. she 100% knew.
Great Interview. He really asked some hard hitting questions. I feel sorry for them honestly, they were victims with everyone else.
Lina Nicolia I believe she was the bookkeeper for the market making side not the Advisory
She worked as a bookeeper in the 60’s for the first year of Bernie’s business, not an accountant, and it’s when he was legitimate
If he didn't involve his sons, he definitely wouldn't have involved his wife. He would have had to keep it secret, he would have been turned in. These types always keep their wives in the dark. What a total shock for her and them
Wow!!
Plus Bernie and Ruth were old school. He worked and she was a housewife who didn't ask questions. Why would she? I believe Ruth would've told her sons about their dad's illegal activities. I don't think she would have put her children's freedom at risk.
She stood by him after she found out he screwed people out of millions but left him when she found out some women screwed him for thousands? . The best part of the abc show
I read this book. It was basically a PR job on behalf of Ruth and her sons.
Correction - her son. Mark would have nothing to do with her.
It was a rebuttal to the book Stephanie wrote disgracing Andrew and Ruth. Stephanie was mean to Ruth.
If Ruth didn't know she def. suspected. She also def. enjoyed the "fruits" of Bernie's chicanery, the lifestyle was great. He'd buy anything she wanted, she had houses, clothes, fancy restaurants, jewelry - anything.

She loved and trusted him. He did not want her and his sons to know anything. The truth is, I think that was his bizarre way of wanting to protect them from being involved in the whole mess.

I wonder if this family ever really loved each other. It all seems so cold, even if my dad killed a child in front of me I would still love him. It's so cold, the sons just cut off mum and dad. It's scary.

(2 toddlers w/his second wife and 2 w his first wife fyi) Mark judged his father and lo and behold…he turned around and did the exact same thing to his children…!!! She didn't see her son for 2 years because the son didn't want to see her, thinking that she was wrong to stand by the father.
I reckon Ruth knew.
Not sure about the sons
The sons knew. Several books out about the Madoff debacle, every single one of them indicates that both boys knew, and alluded to it in semi public/semi-private situations. These are books written by the man who busted him, the SEC director who followed behind the debacle, and several attorneys in and around the lawsuits, several big time brokers who were part and parcel of the feeder funds servicing Madoff.
Ruth knew nothing.
Both sons are now dead, the sins of the father were visited very heavily on them.
ruth knew why else would she start taking out large sums of money
I honestly don't think they knew, he was a master con man
You may be right and that may be why Mark committed suicide. He felt the SCC was closing in.

Absolutely agree.
She knew something wasn't right, she knew
No jo I truly believe she didn't..listen to her its truthful
They look sooo happy
I remember the mother was caught trying to get jewelry and furs smuggled out of their apartment during the period he was out on bail. So when she feigns sympathy for the victims, it doesn't hold water. Those jewels, those furs were bought with victims' money and she was trying to hold on to every last ill gotten cent right up to the end. I don't believe the sons didn't know, either, front office and back office operations are in constant communication all day long regarding trade details ... there were no trades coming to them from the father's business and they never wondered why? Not believable.
True. And I want to add that if they would use their skills to run a legit business they would probably be successful ..too greedy probably
I can't believe her
Well, you aren't an investigator. You just watched a video on TH-cam.
Who is here from Netflix?🙋🏼
She is definitely lying and this is a rotten interview.
+MrDoug41 did you see the smirk/smile on her face when he asked her if she knew... like serious bitch???
There is no difference between any major bank and Madoff.
Its just they got bailouts, he did not
The reason he did not, he was not big enough to fail, that's all
Why he and any major bank/insurance company are any different is never explained to the public!
Sorry for the family, the victims and their families.
I would not have turned on my dad. He'd wouldve had to figure it out on his own. But I'm not giving my pops up.
1:06 "I sort of knew he invested money for people "Uh yeah"
Very lame answer I agree
When your a master criminal , you have a escape plan and don't involve your family . This was greed and living the high life that went out of control . His family are victims of this man who didn't care anymore what will happen once he is caught . That's why he surrendered so easily he was tired of all the lies and thought he could spare his family from suspicion but sadly he was wrong .
This is BS the entire family knew. Greedy greedy
Proof? Oh wait, they were never charged... why you think that is?
Its Very hard to Believe these people. I hear no sorrow or remorse in their voices.
They're not the criminals
Nothing says "I just want to put this whole thing behind me" like writing a book
Well, they were disgraced and accused even though they had nothing to do with it, and they faced bankruptcy. So publishing the book made sense.
@@DJ-bj8ku I feel that one of them knows where the money is hidden, but they will never get to it, and never will have a the chance to enjoy it, he never thought it would be exposed, this big, but it all ends in tragedy, one day someone else will find the money, nothing can stay hidden forever, it all comes out in the wash, he knew it was going to happen but he knew that the end result would be jail time, but he didn't think it would be 100 years in prison, so he put a little something on the side for him to have when he got out of jail, but that ain't gonna happen, so someone else will enjoy the money,
@@DJ-bj8ku His sons betrayed their family. Family Through thick and thin. Their attitudes and actions Showed how weak minded they truly were. Their father was a crook yes but he also was their father who loved them and they abandoned their parents on drop of the hat. Their is nothing more pathetic, spoiled, privileged and weak. You stick it out. You don’t throw away your parents and play victim.
I can believe she didn't know anything.. she what I call a " Woman that has been put up " she didn't work, she didn't ask questions. She depended on him for everything. The bottom line is she didn't care as long as she was cared for . She knew he was cheating and everything... she just played the role took care of the kids and shut her mouth.. I don't think she knew shit..!
