Love how it doesn't just go for the whole "I'm a pissed off badass" but also touches on the loneliness that comes from being a wandering warrior, pushing people away due to truama. It touches on the need to open up and accept the past, as well as letting go of the things that consume her for the betterment of her future. 10/10 song
That seems to be the theme of Guilty Gear Strive. All of the characters are trying push (or I should say strive) for a better tomorrow and leave behind the scars that the crusades caused.

It takes place during the main story and features, Baiken, Delilah, May, Ramlethal, Sin and Faust to explain what they were up to.
The story itself is mostly about Baiken and Delilah with a barebones explanation on what happened to Faust in Strive.
Gotta give it to my man Anji also, all that waiting really paid off in dividends
In the end Baiken accepted a fact that for all traumatized people it’s hard to come to terms with: No matter how much you push people away, no matter how mean and angry you are (and rightfully so), no matter how much you turn your back to the rest of the world, you will still be loved and find that light at the end of the tunnel, and it will HURT.
I feel like a whole character analysis could be done on Baiken and how much her behaviors mirror those of actual real life trauma victims. She believes she’s horrible, unlovable and just a carrier of revenge, but in the end she’s a hurt woman who needed to start healing to find her own freedom from the shackles of the past. She’s by all means a warrior, I love her so much.

From the genius lyrics page: "The ‘Mantra of Light’ is a popular sutra used in certain sects of Japanese Buddhism, recited to cleanse one’s karma after committing a sin in the transition to rebirth. The line that follows, roughly translating to ‘Let us sing a song to cleanse our spirits’ reinforcing the purpose of the sutra.
The rest of the verse pushes back against the notion, presumably from the perspective of Baiken, believing that sin cannot be atoned for and the bad deeds that she has committed are ingrained to her soul."
However I notice that at the end of the song that the sutra is not undercut, as if Baiken is finally forgiving herself for her past actions. Lots of really good details.
Her soul finally achieving the peace that eluded her from Missing Link on till Strive.
I don’t know what it is about Strive’s OST, but something about makes me want to get better at this game. It’s just… really inspiring. All of the songs.

The songs are made of strife and triumph
I really love the line at the end “my vengeance was a sacrifice; didn’t kill the pain.”
It shows that even though she gave up her quest of revenge, it didn’t erase the pain and trauma that the loss of her family and body parts caused all those years ago.

It is a Buddhist Term for Clearing Your Minds and Desire and Obtaining the Truth.
Kind of like what Baiken goes through in Another Story
It's also a very on-the-nose but charming play on words for ROCK-ON SHOUJO (Rock on, girl). Which makes plenty sense for the general vibe in Guilty Gear.
I really love how often they say to cut off vexations. She's just like "I gotta stop being so pissed off all the time."

How the hell is nobody talking about how damn amazing the bass is in this song?
The low end is literally 90% of this song's flair.
Really gives it that animalistic yet introspective feel. We're literally a part of Baiken's internal struggle; anger versus rationality.
I especially love the part at the start of the chorus, you hear the guitar rise with a very hopeful riff just for the bass to counteract it and come back in full force not soon after.
In the end, it's a cacophony of all the parts that make Baiken, Baiken. She's human and still prone to anger, the threat of losing herself to vengeance is ever present.
But she'll try to be better, cause it's the only chance she's got to keep going.

I think one of the most impressive things about this song is the nearly 7 minute run time. It is almost impossible to listen to the entire song in the course of a match. You would have to let every round time out to 99 seconds and have a double KO on the 3rd round to even come close to listening to the whole song in game. Daisuke really isn't afraid to prioritize style over accessibility when he makes music for guilty gear.
I mean hey, Zato-1’s theme (Let Me Carve Your Way) is the same way! That big, emotional power ballad at the end is something you’ll practically NEVER hear in a live match, but it’s there regardless. The way I see it is that it’s a kind of reward for seeking the deeper truth, you feel me? Like, you’ll only reasonably hear it if you’re in training mode working on combos and stuff; getting *familiar* with the character.
After all, *people only really bare their secrets to those they know and trust, right?*

Something i want to say about the "sever, tear, fear" part that i saw nobody talk about. It probably refers To the moment of her life when she lost arm. Sever: she gets her arm cut off; tear: she grieves for what happened to her; fear: she's now afraid to make bonds with anyone because she doesn't want to experience what happened to her ever again. So she stayed in solitude going through dark thoughts with no one to help her and this makes me tear up everytime i think about it. I can't imagine how she felt all that time, all alone.

@@williamkarlsson785 yep. In place of her other arm she hides all kinds of weapons and gadgets to help her fight ( a claw and a cannon) i think she's greatly inspired by guts from berserk from that aspect.

My interpretation was a little bit different, but on the same lines as yours:
Server means, as you said, losing her arm
Tear, losing her eye
Fear, losing her family and home
THIS is why the wait was worth it. The editing, specific moments chosen for certain points, and that absolutely beautiful use of cut away all vexations, alongside the black and white slow parts and intro. This is your best one yet and thanks for doing this.

I really love how Daisuke and his team went so hard with the shinto buddhist tones in this theme.
Her arc throughout the entire series is essentially a shinto buddhist redemption arc mixed with Guts' arc from Berserk.
She starts out incapable of letting go of her hatred and revenge which makes her get closer to being nothing more than a rabid animal and incapable of accepting the care people (mostly Anji) will show towards her only slowly learning to accept these feelings and renouncing her anger towards the end of Rev2.
There are a bunch of references to enlightenment and peace of mind in her Strive song because she's come accept and move past her life of suffering and has attained enlightenment by confronting her "sins" and is ready to die (in the buddhist sense).
Which in samurai fiction, coming to terms with your mortality is like, the ultimate power move because you will never feel any hesitation or fear ever again (It's also why Nagoryuki asks for her mentorship in their intro. Despite him being much older,.He can FEEL her experience and enlightenment just by looking at her).

@@fl0wey57 the confusing stuff is mostly because it's presented in a really fragmented way - most of the characters don't have the whole story and the ones that do are unwilling or incapable of telling. The actual lore is pretty straightforward.

How this song slowly transitions from blaming itself for something to realizing it's not worth blaming anyone is just so good.
a super cool thing about this song is that the chorus has some "hidden" lines; listen close at 2:15 and you'll hear "cut off" layered under "cut away" (it's what "all vexations" is leading off of). at 2:28, you can hear "call my name!" just after "i'm the ghost" and during "of my name." very subtle but gives the chorus so much depth!

Something really tells me Mirror Of The World is based on Ningen Isu, which is a Japanese hard rock/doom metal/thrash metal band that tends to incorporate traditional Japanese instruments and singing styles. The cackling and melodic chorus really reminds me of their style especially.

Its kind of sutras of Buddhism and generally Japaneses also don't understand the meaning and even what they are saying.
Its called 光明真言(koumyoushingon) and it is believed in that if you invoke this sutra time after time wholeheartedly , you are relieved from any evils or disasters.
Every fan who memorized the lyrics and sing along passionately will probably be going to Buddhist heaven then, lol!
@Minwon Jang Well, it was meant to be mostly a joke! I'm not going to pretend I know much about Buddhism, but I knew that was at least somewhat inaccurate, since 'heaven' in their case is all about escaping the cycle of rebirth. I don't really know how evils and disasters are meant to go into it, but I made a joking statement, since I know many people have probably memorized the sutra because of this song!
(I came back to listen to this again, but after seeing my old comment, I think a better way to say it is that the fans who have memorized this song must be doing very well!)
Coming back here after watching the new bonus story, the title and meaning of this song makes a whole lot more sense and has more meaning a depth.

Baiken’s backstory is one with agony, sadness, and revenge. After a gear had murdered her entire family and left her mangled, her path changed to one of revenge and pain. Whatever she did, it was to get closer to “That Man” and to kill him to avenge her fallen family, people, and for herself. But, in this theme, it seems that she’s finally given that up and now wants to live her life in peace. Her sword used to made up of all of her pain and revenge, but now nothing makes it up. She now wants to just fight just to fight and to improve herself. Baiken is a hurt, yet beautiful person. And her theme showing her entire character arc being vaulted is such a chilling experience. Baiken is now a waifu, but it’s not because she has big boobs, but is someone that is inspiring and someone you can learn from. Her theme is an amazing piece of art to witness and listen to. I’m so happy that I got to hear it. Thank you Daisuke for making such an amazing game and characters, especially Baiken. Certified bop.

I will say this about her sword. In strive during super Nago. Her final fight with Anji I believe she mentions her sword is now meant to cut things free. It's why she says it won't work to well on Anji because he's a pretty free person.

Everyone make jokes or like her because of her design (or her re-design i should say).... But that's precisely why i like it. Because she's now *iconic* . Everyone know her, can recognize her, and wil remember her, since her older design from the 2D titles had a little bit of sense of "déjà vu", in a way. Now i hope it would be even more the case with this stupidly good theme.

God damn, the resolution of this song gives me fucking chills. The mantra is one of absolution from past sins (gross oversimplification), and right at the end it feels like its finally being understood for what it is.

This song makes me feel emotional even though I'm new to the gg universe and have no idea what Baiken's story is. Listening to this makes me feel like I already know how much she has grown. I hope some day I am able to play strive just so i can experience playing as the modern version of Baiken for myself :')

After intense deliberation and listening to most of the soundtrack multiple times over the last few days, I feel pretty good in saying this is currently my favorite song in this soundtrack, it's got so much going for it. But it's mainly my favorite because I really like the metal riffs.

And just to add to the brilliance of the character: Baiken means “Divider” (Double Sword). [And if you wish to go further down the rabbit hole: Ken is Celtic for Born of Fire. She uses a firearm. Which, along with Red and Fire, is a symbol of Power]
She is the Mirror of the World, hence the Double.

Ive never played one Guilty Gear game, but I know the game. All of the comments talking about Baiken's lore got me all interested in all of this. Im assuming I will need to play the older games to know the whole gist of everyone if I want to know?

Gotta be the best strive song in the current OST. Musically and lyrically, everything makes you feel the rage and reflection Baiken goes through. Literal chills every time I hear it.
The "na madaru" is actually "na madabu" i.e. "NA MA DA BU", a shortening of the Buddhist prayer “namo'mitābhāya buddhāya,” roughly translated to “Bow to the Enlightened Buddha.”
I'm not sure where the "madaru" lyric is sourced from but it seems incorrect.

OK at first I wasn't a fan of Baiken's theme but then the more I listened to it it started growing on me and now it's one of my favorite themes.

it truly felt like one of those things that maybe daisuke wanted to try in a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time, to use the guitar that way, and later on in the solo, the synth too... feels kinda proggy too in a way, although saying that is quite reductive.
