Seven dead in Hawaii helicopter tour crash

- The National Transportation Safety Board is sending a team to the Hawaiian island of Kauai to look for answers in connection with the deadly crash of a sightseeing helicopter. The remains of six of the seven people on board the helicopter have been found. Search teams will be back at it at first light on Saturday. Jamie Yuccas reports.

My dad and mom live in kauai. They flew all my siblings out there for christmas and were supposed to do some stuff like this for christmas but they were cancelled due to weather conditions. Praying for the victims. Thats sad
That's the thing CANCELLED because of WEATHER CONDITIONS. They shouldn't have been up there. It was 24 knots and foggy. Not conditions you're supposed to be flying in. I don't know anything about being a pilot, but I looked it up last night. 24 is close to the absolute limit which is 25 knots. And foggy? Just cancel the trip and wait until another day. Humans are so hurried to make money. Now these people are DEAD.

The 13 year old girl Is in my home room class in Hamilton middle school. I was in my email and saw that my school sent out the news of her death and it was just truly shocking. We all miss you at Hamilton middle and wish that this never had happend

Sonofspam64 the pilot went to work, like everyone else, not intending to take someone’s life. Accidents happen. I’m sure that if he had lived, he would’ve been devastated that he caused those people to loose their lives.
Well I would hate to be that seventh person and be alive but everyone just assuming I was dead. Hope they find the last person soon.

I went on a helicopter tour on Kauai over the summer with my family... the thought of that being us is terrifying.
I couldn't do it, too scared of the chance of the copter crashing.

Fog & strong winds are quite common near Ko'ke'e road. I don't think the weather was the problem, most likely mechanical failure. May the families find peace in time.
Fog and strong winds don't usually go together. Fog is usually associated with a light, mixing breeze, or no wind. It is common to conflate fog with low-lying clouds. Unless the broadcast is referring to fog at ground level, and strong winds at a higher altitude.

I’ve been on this tour and it’s truly breathtaking. Scary? Yes. But you can’t surpass the view from the helicopter. And yes, I was so thankful when we touched down on land after the tour.
I've been too. I was fascinated by the view. And I haven't felt the dangerous. But now in the future I'll be thinking do I need this freaking tour. I've read in the news that Hawaii has seen 18 civilian helicopter crashes in the last five years. Sounds very sad

Sightseeing copters and single propeller planes in tourist areas especially in Hawaii/Alaska are particularly dangerous and unregulated. Research what you're getting yourself into before signing up....

This is sad man. Seven innocent people have died and a lost helicopter. This sucks man.
This is an extremely rugged area. I doubt any pilot could have landed safely here if they had a mechanical failure.
I personally stay away from tour helicopter in Hawaii mountains. Too many spirits 😝

You do realize they do over 10 tours, per day, across like 5 companies, 300+ days a year, for 30 years. This freak accident should not deter you from doing a heli tour on Kauai, it was the highlight of my trip there. Thousands die daily in car accidents yet you still drive...
Alysia H very smart coz these crashes happen a lot. Not to long ago one crashed in Kailua killing everyone and a skydiving plane crashed killing everybody on board.
don't go into the water because people died from shark attacks. don't go hiking because people have been attacked by wild animals. don't fly the plane to Hawaii because people have died from plane crash. don't take ship there because people died from sinking ships. just stay home where you are safe.. oh wait people have died in their home watching TV.
Why would you? We just got a helicopter tour watching this video, and we did it in perfect safety.

To put that into perspective, we lose a couple bicycle tourists on the Big Island a year due to getting ran over.
Did the blades butchered them? The weather was windy. Hawaii military 2 choppers down in ocean 2019, 1 in Ohio 2019.
Clearly the company fault for Allowing the helicopter to fly in FOG with dangerouse mountains and WHY would you go sight seeing in Fog?!
Very Sad! Went on a helicopter one time in Maui and hated it! Will never go in a helicopter again! So tragic.

We went to The Big Island for a week. We were going to go to Hilo and check out the recent volcanism from a chopper, but just after we watched the safety video the guides cancelled it because heavy fog came in. In hindsight, I prefer my VR goggles.
What I don't understand is why these helicopter pilots are not required to be IFR certified. They are ferrying passengers so its a commercial type flying. And perhaps the 69 year old pilot could have had a heart attack or stroke. Which my point here is all commercial pilots in the airline industry ferrying passengers have to retire at 65.
those helicopters don't have IFR instruments. but as for the heart attack or stroke i wouldn't disagree

@Marie Mary Then I truly hope that you are never in a situation where a helicopter is the only thing that can get to you, ie valley, flood, severe car crash. I highly doubt you'll be all like, "Yeah, no." There is nothing unsafe about helicopters.

I was in Kauai a few months ago, and I remember specifically thinking that I didn't want to take a helicopter tour on the extremely slight chance this might happen. Sad story, and my condolences to everyone involved.
John Dell yeah man I hear you. I was there in July and me and my family really looked at these tours. Did a lot of talking about it and finally decided against it, because my 12 year old son talked me down. Very sad
