    Watching this I thought it'd be easy, one of the bolts came out without threads and the other snapped which caught me by surprise. Those bottom ones, couldn't get any heat on them either due to the location they're at. Taking everything around it out so I can get the manifold out. Like the saying, a 20 min job's always a snapped bolt away from becoming a 20 hour. Good video tho, well done! And for those that can't weld two bits together and make it strong enough. I took a long thin walled 10mm socket, cut it and used a press to seat the 12 spline, then I bought a 230mm long 10mm hex.

    Thanks a lot for the video, do you have the genuine part number for the EGR COOLER?

    Can you just program that egr valve stay closed all the time and coolant wont be lost?

      Legally, no. Certain companies will tune the car to have it permanently closed, but it's for off road use only. Plus the coolant sloshing about inside the cooler with the diesel soot won't be a nice thing to circulate back into your cooling system (If the crack inside gets bigger). If you tune for off road, remove EGR components and blank to stop headaches down the track.

    Where is the egr valve in this model. The other models have valve and cooler as one

    thanks for the vid, I cracked the small exhaust tube underneath (where you need the extension) on bribie island yesterday.. does the egr valve on top just bolt off?

      Hi , All I had was a loss of coolant and only about 200mm a week. That sounds a bit more serious like a cracked head. Has it been losing coolant for I while?

      @@deancameronproa8889 Hi, couple of years later now, but thought I'd comment for others benefit. I just replaced mine, & it was bubbling violently out the coolant bottle at idle & showed all external roadside indications of a cracked head. It was on a long trip & had used a small amount of coolant 2 weeks earlier which I thought may have just been evaporation, as I hadn't checked it in quite a while. Anyway 70km into a trip it showed the low coolant warning, so I topped it up & had a quick look for leaks with a torch in the dark. No sign of drips but I just assumed it was a weepy hose (hoped) & carried on. Anyway 50km later it happened again, then 10km, then 5, so I stopped there & trailered it home. Driving it from the trailer into the workshop it emptied the coolant reservoir, so the point is, when the egr blows, it can really blow & send lots of steam & bubbles out the filler. I know I should have stopped sooner in hindsight, but the engine never got so hot I couldn't hold my hand on it at idle, & with the cooler egr replaced now it seems as good as new. Only 90,000km on the clock, 2013 model. Cheers for the video.

    mate what's the exact purpose of the EGR I have an amarok and iv heard these play up a lot. A guy mentioned blocking it off completely? Are you familiar with any potential issues or benefits of doing this?

    • @deancameronproa8889
      @deancameronproa8889  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Adam .I wouldn't block it off unless in an emergency. It's there to cool the recycled exhaust gas. If you block it the hot exhaust gas recycles into your air intake so loss of performance and hotter running temps. If you really want to bypass it ,best off to block off your egr system and have your engine remapped. That's expensive but you will get increased gains with power and fuel. The egr coolers do have problems but if you start losing coolant that's a sign . I personally keep my engine stock standard and replaced cooler . Chances are I will never replace cooler again.

    This is hilarious comparing VW longitudinal diesels. It's too easy.
