  • Following on from Part 1, where we looked at the traditional colour wheel and how artists use it to create harmonious colour schemes, we are now taking a deeper dive into complementary colours.
Why is it so aesthetically pleasing to see colours from opposite sides of the colour wheel placed together? Well, it's not just art, it's science! In this video we attempt to unpick this, and look at how interior designers, graphic designers, film makers and artists use complementary colours to create a vibrant and dynamic palette for their work.

I was so relieved when you said we should see blue. Whew! The artists examples helped me very much.

Most people will see a blue square in that experiment though strangely my husband didn’t - he has decided not to worry about it! Glad the examples were helpful

I’ve watched so many videos on this subject and your series thus far is the only one that makes sense to me. Others tend to not show examples yet use a pallete knife and put paint down yet seeing actual examples in art makes your teachings stand out. Subscribed!
Thank you ever so much and look forward to learning more about colour theory from you. Take care ☮️💜

Thank you so much, it makes me so happy to read this. I think that many of us are 'visual learners' (I know I am) and benefit from seeing physical examples of things. I'd have loved to have shown a medley of film clips as there are some great examples of how complementary colour palettes draw us in. It's such a fascinating subject and I'm really glad that you are enjoying the videos. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

Thank you very much Claire. Very useful. Can't wait to see the video on mixing complimentary colours for neutrals. I think I spotted a reference to this on your blog on the website. Ta.
