Creator's names or even title card artwork on the back of the cards is just whyyy 😭 specially when otherwise the deck is good. I have a couple that suffer from this that I still use because I otherwise like them, but if I was better at crafts I'd change the backs 😇 great hearing your thoughts Julie, thanks for the video ! 😊
Loved getting to see how some of your choices had or hadn't changed. It's funny how things can do a 180 sometimes. Bad tactile experience has gotta be up there for me.
Nice to learn of someone who enjoys glossy decks. Not all "progress" is progress. Gloss shows colours clearly. Newer matt editions of certain decks may appeal due to being borderless but lose some of the definition. I agree with Star Tarot and am also thinking of Tarot de St Croix. 🤔
Definitely agree on the whole primary colours thing... which actually is part of the reason I don't like the RWS. Certain historic marseille decks that do primary colours do a better job at using negative space to give your eyes a rest than others but mostly I'd acquire those for study rather than regular use. :) Lovely video, Juli!
This was so fun to watch, and got me thinking about my own delights and deterrents! Totally agree with the toning down of gilding, some decks are better without them imo 😅 thanks for sharing Juli ✨
Love this update! Color me oh so shocked that you’re not one for a sense of place deck, so astonish, very wow 🤣 But nah really, this all makes perfect sense for the Juliverse 🪐 and yesssss for minis!
Totally with you on fandom decks. They're usually so badly done--poor cardstock and lazy pips. And I'm so out of it (never watched Game of Thrones, for example) that I don't get them and they're such merchandizing cash grabs! I actually like matte gilding but I don't like the shiny kind. Cardstock is key, but as I can't shuffle, I have different criteria for it (like rose petal is lovely to handle when you don't care how it shuffles).
Hi Nancy! I also like a good matte gilding because it usually doesn't hurt my hands! So that's definitely an exception. I love the feel of rose petal--just not the shuffling experience LOL
Thank you for sharing, Juli. I finally found a pip deck that I like -- and I love it. It's The Lighted Window Tarot. Probably my biggest deterrents are decks that have either all slender women (usually showing boobage and leg) or decks that have no one over age 30. I don't read very well with most animals decks -- I do own a few that I love. Tarot of the Owls is one of them -- same illustrator as The Everyday Witch.
I love the look of a good gloss, it reminds me of sci-fi/fantasy trade paperback books and the colours just pop. I just wish they were easier to shuffle, that's usually my issue with it. I also completely changed my tune on animal decks. Loved this
🤣🤣🤣 calling me out on my “sense of place” bullshit right in the first three minutes. Don’t buy an Everyday Witch Mini, I’ll send you mine! I thought I was going to make it a purse deck but it’s a lil TOO small for me.
That glossy deck is from CraftCardsStore on Etsy. They call them plastic, but I can't tell if they're truly plastic or just SUPER laminated. I'm thinking the latter. What do you think? I trimmed one to remove titles and it turned out well, but it was hard on my little guillotine.
You could be right because it sounds like when you used the guillotine on yours, the cards weren't plastic all the way through? Glad your mod turned out well regardless! 🙌🏼
I don't think I ever did this tag... I kept wanting to do it, and now you reminded me. My tastes are so eclectic that this will take a minute to gather my thoughts. 🤔 I think my tastes have changed over the years. I am so on the fence about a lot of these, minis... I also love them!
It makes me a little sad that so many people seem so disconnected to nature and animals that they can’t use tarots of them. I have to say I don’t really have any deterrents - if it’s done well, I can appreciate pretty much anything. And if it’s not done well, then even my favorite elements don’t matter.
Another reason I've heard why some people can't connect with animal decks is that so many of them focus on animals that aren't indigenous to their country, which I can understand. That's so awesome that you don't have any deterrents! The world is your tarot oyster! 🦪💜
I also prefer people in my decks, and I don’t think it’s because I am disconnected from nature or animals…in fact I would argue that those are two of my favorite things…for me it’s because my readings are FOR people. Myself, clients. Anthropomorphism just isn’t my thing. I think there is probably many reasons why someone may not prefer animals in decks that don’t have such negative roots.
I love this new mini deck trend too! They’re so cute, and cheaper, and fit better in my little apartment. They’re a win for me all around. 💜
And I agree about the gilding. If it’s good quality it’s lovely, but otherwise I’d prefer companies not bother and just leave the edges plain.
I can never have too many minis! 😂
I personally love rose petal finishes on cards, but of course everyone is different.
I do as well, and a thick card stock. :)
I loooove the feel of rose petal, but not the shuffling experience. I have only one deck with rose petal that can shuffle well, haha.

Thank you, Kelly Bear! This was a lot of fun to revisit to see where I've eaten my words and where I've remained unchanged!

Oooh Tarot de St Croix is a great example! Thank you for watching! 🥰

Your reason might partly be why I never got on with the OG RWS either! 😆 Thanks for watching, Saoirse!

Yes, please chill out with the gilding, publishers! 🤣 Thank you so much for watching!

I watched a walkthrough of the Lighted Window Tarot, since I was unfamiliar. It is gorgeous! That cups suit 😍😍
@@Peekaboorose I love the Major Arcana and Courts too. Oh, and the Pentacles. One of the most beautiful World cards, I think. It's a joy to pick up.
I love your colourful cloth! 💚
Thank you!! 🩷💜💙

Very true about the shuffling issue with glossy card stock! Luckily my glossy decks haven't given me any problems. Thanks for watching, Sylvie! 🩷
So fun!!! ❤❤❤

I'm delighted that place-centric decks delight you!! 🤣. Omg, thank you!! 🙏🏼😘

Can't wait to watch your VR, Tamipie!! 😍
I loved this video makes you think about why we like and dislike certain decks
Thank you so much for watching--great to see you! 💜

The new JBG deck looks to be (once again) all reused art.
Yes, and I noticed that a good majority are ones she released as public domain! So anyone could make their own personal Halloween deck 🤷🏻♀️
Makes the whole deck feel a bit redundant 😮
