I loved your videos on DigitalRev but since you went out on your own your creativity has just EXPLODED! Thanks for all your contributions to this amazing craft.
By far the most entertaining TH-cam videos about photography done by a guy who has far more opinions than he has solid knowledge. But the truly fine entertainment, all by itself, is worth the watch.
Probably one of my favorite videos you've done since switching to your own channel :D Keep up the great work, always psyched to see a new video from you
Good to see you have your own channel. The other channel just didn't seem the same without their star and your British accent. Welcome back Kai. Now bring back Lambee and the nerd guy. Im so sorry I forgot his name. Big fan of his too. Haha
Not a good deal for zero distortion at 15mm f/2? Late 70's Olympus Zukio 21mm f/2 are going for nearly that and while they are low on distortion, they do have all the problems inherent with using a 70s lens. I am trying to figure out what to sell in order to buy one of these. As I photograph architecture I always appreciate a lens I don't have to edit out loads of distortion in post.
Watching this in 2023 because I've loved my laowa 15 f4 macro for years and I'm honestly thinking about getting this one too lmao. 2 Laowa 15mm lenses isn't excessive right? I'll pick one up used and see if i can weed one out possibly. Maybe not
Many people ignore that manual focus is very easy with ultra wide lenses. Full frame ultra wide lenses shorter than 16mm have inherently very deep depth of field even at wide apertures. At f/8 the hyper focal distance is around one meter. In practice with a 15mm lens when the focus ring is set to infinity with f/8 everything after one meter is in focus. Also with handheld photography the reciprocal rule for shutter speed permits very slow shutters speeds with ultra wide lenses. In practice with handheld shooting ultra wide lenses permit photos with lower ISO, less image noise and higher dynamic range than no stabilized wide or normal lenses.
Hey Kay, if I'm not mistaken, you did use the Voigtlander as well. I'm looking for a ultra wide angle lens, 14 - 16mm, but more likely, I'm kind of in between the Laowa and the Voigtlander 15mm. What's you opinion on these lens? I know if a bad question to make you because of your business, but if you would buy one, which one of these two? Price wise they are similar, at least for me, the Laowa a bit more expensive, the Voigtlander has some distinct advantages that I like it, cheaper, doubt $100.00, smaller, 60% of the weight of Laowa, exif data, so I would have zoom in function, aperture info, the Laowa in the other hand is faster, so, it all boils down to this for me, and that I would like to know, sharpness, specially at corners, vignetting, CA, image quality in general. Thanks.
I received mine last week but haven't had a chance to test it out yet. The weather here in DC hasn't been great in the evenings. Hopefully I'll get it out soon.
Hi Kai W. I have a camera sony a 7 3. Please help me to select the best wide lens for astrofoto for this camera and the best lens for landscape. Thank you very much.
I'm ready for a video about lighting! I've got lenses and cameras coming out of my you know what and I think lighting is where I need to put my money next.
There is a huge difference between perspective distortion and geometric distortion. All wide angle lenses have perspective distortion and it is inevitable. An exception are the tilt shift wide angle lenses which can't be autofocus or very sharp. Laowa offers a Magic Shift Converter but it is compatible with EF mount and F mount lenses. This Laowa 15mm f/2.8 has nearly zero geometric distortion and that is fine because even very expensive wide angle lenses have a little barrel distortion which is a kind of geometric distortion.
#KaiW can you sort out my problem of mine. I am confused of buying the lens in company's.Sigma AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 APO DG Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens for canon 80d and Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di LD Macro Telephoto Zoom Lens for canon 80d which one would you suggest.
Definitely an interesting lens! I'm actually looking forward to the Laowa 12mm with the shift adapter for the a7RII; that would call for some kick *ss panoramas/architecture. Keep it up Kay :D
hi. i know this is not connected to the video but can i ask you something? i want to learn photography, and i wanna start with capturing nature. Is basic dslr better or bridge camera? can you recommend me something? i appreciate it so much if you answer. thank you so so much. 😆
0:37 - I know another site with some "working with models" tutorials. P.S. Skillshare requires card info even to try those 2 free months. In case if anyone wonders why doesn't it work as they planned, that's why: I don't want. That's why a lot of people leaves the website on that exact page where they ask you for card info.
Exactly what I was thinking, +daan stam! The IrIX 2.4/15 is REAL zero distortion, which the Laowa is obviously not - and it has an electronic aperture (and writes EXIF!) for two thirds of the price! I love it and can live very good with that half stop less light :-) Here are some examples with the IrIX Firefly 15mm ƒ/2.4 on SONY a7II: www.flickr.com/photos/mike-mkvip/albums/72157687170047476
Mike Theobald That lens looks great ! But nothing for Sony... i have an a mount mirorless. Wich version do you recommend with wich adapter ring? Thanks
Benoît Gillain: I heard IrIX plan to release Sony A-mount as well as E-mount versions of their lenses in the near future. Drop them a line here: en.irixlens.com/contact As far as adapters are concerned, neither Canon EF nor Nikon F are adaptable to A-mount (at least not for infinity w/o glass) - the flange distance is too long.
As always I learn something unexpected as well as having some good belly laughs..why some comments have a problem with your hair is...unexpected..and stupid...do your thing!
Wow...I've actually uploaded a video!

What was this video shot with? Ultrawide lens? For example, at 8:32? GoPro?

Interesting Lens... there is version for Canon?
Even for a brief moment, it's cool to see Kai Man Wong and Stephen Vanasco in the same video. Oh, and nice hoodie. Papa bless!
best photography channel on youtube. best audio too
I'm looking for an ND that doesn't degrade the image quality for this lens. Any recommendations?
What a Edger Wright style intro. Love it.
Hi Kai W. I have a camera sony a 7 3. Please help me to select the best wide lens for astrofoto for this camera and the best lens for landscape. Thank you very much.
Did you say "spank you very much"?
Will I ever find a lens for my Sony that can equal my Carl Zeiss T* 16mm Hologon which has noticeably less distortion than the Laowa 15mm?

*Oooo, Leica!*
Question Kai! Why are you using a "plain" first gen A7? Just curious, thinking about moving from my A6000 to the first gen A7 :)
That night shot was really awesome 🤩
3:00 Can somebody link me to this video?
Can you provide a link to the "airport" video? What was that strange lens? I must admit that it is the "longest" lens that I have seen.
Happy new year, matey. Keep on keeping on.
I'm ready for a video about lighting! I've got lenses and cameras coming out of my you know what and I think lighting is where I need to put my money next.
Is that.....H3H3 merch you're wearing? Wow..you're officially my favorite TH-cam photographer.
Can this lens use procore adapter from canon lens to sony? Im trying to combine this
That is the Martello tower at Aldeburgh right??
Is this as good or better than a 15mm Zeiss Distagon? Thanks
Where is that castle you took photos of? It looks impressive for photography
Biggie smalls - kick in the door waving the 44, remix 版本
That's all I heard during this whole video... Kick in the Door ripoff! :D
May I ask is it still worth buying the sony a7ii now? Because I saw the a7III is about to come out. But I dont think I have enough money to buy it
No mention of the Irix 15 mm f/ 2.4 rectilinear lens???
this style of unboxinng is the shit. Well done Kai!
Sony a7 ?? Good for astro imaging ? Not much else ??
Really appreciate your videos! Love the un-box cut scene!
About time Kai!
Sweet lens, maybe a bt pricy for an amateur like me. I love your sense of humour.
Was mesmerized by hair and hoodie...what lens was that?
what the hell is that lens at 3:00?

Would this be a good lens for real estate photo & video?

awesome video, loved the music, script , grading, awesome awesome
Definitely an interesting lens!

Keep it up Kay :D
Have you not tried the Irix 15mm f2.4?
Does anybody know what gitzo tripod Kai was using in the video?
Hello Kai, how would you compare this to the Samyang 12mm f2.0 for Fuji??
I’m liking the Ethan and Hila T-shirt!
how was the variation of the lens from Finland
How many stops was the "super dark" ND filter? 🙈
please review sigma 24-70 art and tamron ...and nikon d850 review
Have you compared this lens with the Irix 15mm f2.4?
are you from singapore ?
cant seem to find a decent ND filter to fit the laowa lens
Nice review, thanks! I bit pricey so I'll wait a bit! If you don't mind revealing, what's that ball head on your tripod?
How did you get so tan?
Was your blog camera a bit smudgy?
Okay, but what did you shoot this video with? Looks good. Y?
compare with laowa 12 f2.8
who win in sharpness at edge
Why is a high aperture good for star-shots?
why were you shooting with an A7 mark 1??
your voice makes every video sound like a top gear episode
hi. i know this is not connected to the video but can i ask you something?
i want to learn photography, and i wanna start with capturing nature. Is basic dslr better or bridge camera? can you recommend me something? i appreciate it so much if you answer. thank you so so much. 😆
So do you live near Portsmouth Kai?
Please making video about low price camera with great pic,or lens kit tips

Please review new tamron 24-70 2.8 g2 vs Sigma 24-70 2.8 art
how is that stick lens from Laowa called?
Hold up. Those sounds are from Fruit Ninja!
Your ninja'ing cracked me up haha! cheers for the laughs Kai ;)
did u learn those knife skills at skillshare
Love your dry humour, keep at it!
Kai, wat do you think of the Irix 15mm F/2.4?
You're always reviewing of expensive cameras. Can you make a video about Canon Eos M100?
Techmoan?
Hi, whick tripod do u use in this video? Thanks ;)
You could review a box of eggs and I'd watch it still! The most entertaining channel of TH-cam! :)
Laowa vs irix?
Exactly what I was thinking, +daan stam! The IrIX 2.4/15 is REAL zero distortion, which the Laowa is obviously not - and it has an electronic aperture (and writes EXIF!) for two thirds of the price! I love it and can live very good with that half stop less light :-)
Here are some examples with the IrIX Firefly 15mm ƒ/2.4 on SONY a7II: www.flickr.com/photos/mike-mkvip/albums/72157687170047476
The IrIx is not 'zero' distortion, it has some barrel distortion, it's just a bit better than most wide angles
+Uncaged: oc it's not real 'zero' - but at least it doesn't claim to be ;-)
No ultra wide really is - but there are differences...
Mike Theobald That lens looks great ! But nothing for Sony... i have an a mount mirorless. Wich version do you recommend with wich adapter ring? Thanks

Have you heard about the "star eater" problem with Sony mirrorless cameras?
That is the reason he is using an old A7 I guess.
Love the plot twist at the end
doesn't the a7r eat stars?
pls never stop making videos!
As always I learn something unexpected as well as having some good belly laughs..why some comments have a problem with your hair is...unexpected..and stupid...do your thing!
What is the ND filter you use ?
Where is that castle located?
Finally a lens to prove the flat earthers wrong.
