The Waylanders is a country Rock western infused duo band.
Joey a Texas transplant takes care of the guitar and vocal section while Dani the Texan handles the drums and backup vocals.
They both march to the beat of their own drum when it comes to their music, avoiding standards and following a more “our own” sound kinda path.
At the end of 2022 they set out to record their debut album , bootstrapping every aspect of it using 2000s soundboards and microphones they inherited from a small church in Kansas , taking on the challenge to record and mix and master everything . The gear was set up in a living room in Chico Tx. In an unfinished house Dani just built , paint still fresh and floors not installed yet , but that lack of floors and furniture sure made for a good live studio-like room, perfect for their live recording style with no metronomes or auto tune .
Fast forward to today December 2023 and they have finished a full length album which is set to be released early 2024 , full of diversity and surprises and even a Tom T. Hall cover they have adapted into their sound. Pat lyons (colter wall’s multi-instrumentalist plays dobro on the track “Mr. Big Cigar” and Jake Groves also another of Colter Wall’s road and studio main players plays the harmonica on “I’m just lucky”.
Songs that talk about lacking or having too much, a murder ballad “woman to woman” from the eyes of a Woman not as patient and forgiving as Dolly Parton was to ‘Jolene” . A song about the truth “six String Dreams” and the fact that Joe Forest isn’t a native Texan or a cowboy that has a birthright to play Country Music. This album if full of real life honesty , no secret computer filters hide the missed notes and no trendy lyric hides the truth.
