The idea that carrots improve eyesight supposedly came from a security measure during WW2. The English had developed a proximity fuse for anti-air raid shells which had dramatically improved the efficacy on Luftwaffe planes. To cover this up, the British put out the rumor that eating carrots improved their gunners' eyesight, and so improved their accuracy. Quite a number of Axis gunners turned orange in the next couple of years. That whole recommendation to drink eight glasses of water a day didn't come from science (science would have specified the volume of water) but from a US Army bulletin to troops to prevent dehydration.
Concern of contamination by human flesh probably. But if they'd waited a couple of weeks before doing anything with them most of the flesh would've passed through their systems or been converted into useful elements and proteins.
Not me but my son. As part of our homeschooling my kids had ski lessons. During the post lesson ski time the kids get to just ski. My son got an icy ramp and it was like a comedy skit. He went up arms and legs askew and landed face first in the snow. Right in front of the ski patrol! Skis straight up and down in the snow. 🤣 I wish I had the video camera with me then.

My mother ate lots of carrots at one point, she turned orange, darker than the most orangey things you can find!
